- Nevada Department of Wildlife introduced the Rocky Mountain Goat into the Ruby Mountains in 1964. This was followed by their introduction into the East Humboldt range in 1981. The herd suffered a disease die-off in 2009-2010, leaving low numbers until NDOW started to see the herd health improve in 2021. With older nannies and low genetic diversity, an augmentation to the herd was pursued. With the help of Utah DNR and many other partners, NDOW brought 16 new mountain goats to the East Humboldt range in November of 2024.
