You should take it when it's safe but I would hate for it to come out during Trump's 1st, and hopefully last term and have him take credit. It needs to come as soon as possible, but if it comes during Donald's tenure, he WILL take credit and we risk him becoming more popular with moderate Republicans. The people working on the vaccines need to get this out as fast and as safely as possible and keep politics out, but if it comes out before... February? Is it February? In Europe, I think that drug was called Softenon. A horrible story.
My mother had horrendous morning sickness with me and asked her Dr about it as it was well known then. His intuition told him not to prescribe it otherwise my life may have been a different story.
Not only is this vaccine new it is an mRNA vaccine that has never progressed passed animal studies. They have been trying for 20 years with all studies saying do not progress to human studies.
The problem with vaccines is that safety testing is normally very short, sometimes days and they never challenge the taker with the virus/bacteria they are vaccinating for. The animals in these studies didn't die from the vaccine they died when they were challenged with the virus where their immune system overreacts and attacks the body and its organs from the inside out.
Don't worry about your 401K though as all pharma companies are immune from damages if anyone is injured.....

However the good news is, Corona/flu type viruses have a very low level virulence rate for the vast, vast majority of the population with normal functioning immune systems. In fact it is so low our front line defender White Blood Cells snuff the virus at the onset of the infection before any symptoms are even detectable, aprox 80-90% of the time. We literally doubled the precautions of the CDC did everything we can to limit contact and requiring students and staff to wear masks atall times. Had to close the school because 1 infected studen (tests still take 10 days) brought it in. We closed cleaned and tried with a new group of students and staff and had to close again. How can we open when we can't rely on testing?

We can't even accurately predict long term consequences for a simple chemical device we build ourself like a battery, just 3 chemicals acting together.
How about 60 chemicals, that are all interacting in not very straightforward design. We don't even know if, what and how many functions all of these chemicals have. Combine that with almost a hundred of common underlying conditions and deviations, different sensitivities under different age groups and ethnicities. The long term consequences is not something we can simply calculate, we need to observe a sample group long term to determine what the long term consequences are.
Rushing a vaccine would not only be potential harmful for people but also for the public confidence in vaccines in general.

Based on historical evidence, the stats are heavily in favor of the vaccine being far safer than the disease, both in the short and long term. That said, maybe don't be first in line in case of a colossal fuck up, but the alternative isn't to be automatically safe.

In my opinion the main effort should be focused on suppressing the virus, regions where the virus is very well suppressed like New Zealand or Iceland probably don't need to vaccinate everyone, just the people who travel to or from those islands. That should be sufficient.

This is a very basic general overview of virology and immunology in relation to this pandemic that for some bizarre reason are not being discussed by the scientific mainstream. There are likely dozens if not hundreds of corona virus antibody immunity's in all of us right now from historic past pandemic outbreaks. Right now in present time there are 7 corona viruses circulating the globe that nobody really even knows exist caused by two fundamental biological factors; virulence dilution from our internal immune defense mechanisms (population acquired immunity or heard Immunity) and antigenic shift (mutations). (This is also precisely the reason why there has never before in history been an effective vaccine for a cor/virus or viably effective flu/vac). The virulence is invariably weakened and the spike and surface proteins will have altered by the Ribosome's error prone RNA polymerase replication system inside the cells nucleus long before any vaccine has time to be developed and tested.
Even though SARS-cov-2 is considered a novel virus, our immune system recognize cov19 at least in a partial RNA sequencing and the foreign invader is usually snuffed with relative ease and commonality. In microgenetics terms by definition there are no such things as a totally novel and independently genetically coded virus, they all share similar RNA sequencing and hijacked and borrowed protein micromachinery. This is exactly why Sars-cov-2 goes undetected and is completely benign and harmless in the vast majority of the populations infections. There is a response to partial antibody T-Cell memorization recall recognition, occurring with almost everyone across the globe making the virulence malignancy very weak within the healthy population that ultimately causes what is known in epidemiological terms as the viral endemic phase .
The problems only really occur with corona as with flu virus infections when the immune system is significantly damaged from degradation in very old people or people with severe chronic comorbidity's or other severe immunocomromise diseases.
