Even if Mark has "messed up" throughout the playthrough with other characters, his genuine love and care for the musician shows how sweet he is. Objectively, the musician is horrifying (in the second chapter), and it looks like he's in the final stages of becoming a red chomper or some other creature anyway (the hole in his head looks remarkably like them) but Mark still tries to take care of him because he's just a scared kid.

I love how Mark is like "no regrets, I killed them all" when talking about the villagers, but when the boy turns into a monster he gets super upset. I can almost see him weighing his options and thinking of trying it again just because he felt so bad

Irony is, if he fed him the right food and looked after him, the fiddler has a good ending. Saving him would've made him feel good when the game ends. In fact, in this one video, he failed to do the only "good" choices in game. From here on, the woods earn that darkness.

Michael Prost a few episodes back. I don’t know the timestamp but I know around the time of when you meet him you’re given bread and both the game and the comments told mark to only give him the bread.

Mark, there's no good ending for the characters you come across in this game. Ironically, the only way they won't end horribly mutilated or killed is you never interacting with them, which makes them disappear from the game forever after you pass certain points in the story.
Just keep playing, you're doing fine (by this games' standards)
There's a few that survive after the ending if you do certain things. Though the whole "quality of life" would be highly questionable.
And ironically the good ending is you burning the evil forest so no one has to go through this mess again

Except for the constant twisted face editing and alien vocal effect, he does those entirely too much. Aside from that though, he's pretty good.

Dead Wolf Agreed. Lixian, for the most part, is a very enjoyable editor. His little interactions with Mark especially give his videos a kind of charm that I don’t see in many other RUclipsrs.
That said, the distortions are repetitive and have overstayed their welcome. Rarely do they get a chuckle out of me since it’s a lazy attempt at humor. Silly noises seem like something a child would laugh at.

Dark wood does this on purpose things happen without you fully understanding they were your fault not just that but all paths you take change everything thats the magic of it, you can replay 10 times and still learn new things (if you never google anything) its the perfect survival horror exploration, plus there is no good, everything you do in someway end up in misery even if you have the best of intentions thats how this game is, a horror with no happy endings or resolutions everythings sucks and I love it

sad endings used to be rare, but know you cant find a happy ending in movies, games even if you tried. sad endings are overused in my opinion and happy endings just seen as childish

It's a neat thing, but I feel like the way this game does it is a little... poor...
I understand unexpected consequences, but doing something for a result and getting an *opposite* result just kinda seems like a slap in the face. Like I understand the need for replay ability, but getting a result you want shouldn't depend on you replaying to get it. You should be able to get there your first play through.

The theory I'm working with:
This game so far has been purposefully unfair in certain aspects (like feeding the musician the wrong thing), and the entire story is dark, gloomy and unforgiving. I think the developers weaved that idea into the gameplay. To give you the sense of no matter what you do, no matter what your intentions are, the worst happens. And honestly, I think that's the theme of the game. The game isn't fair because well, life isn't fair. You may have the best intentions while doing something, but that doesn't mean that it won't backfire, and create something horrible instead. I think that's the message of the game, and I'm loving it so far!

I agree and disagree. I think it's comes to common sense about the mushrooms because literally ur using the mushrooms to give you powers and you even see how they are affecting the character by the mirror you come across. On top of that the name of the mushroom is called odd looking mushroom.

Mark is doing what is in his mind “good”. He fed the musician kid a potato first, which should have been allowed but Mark is limited by the programming of the game. Mark gave him the only thing he had left that was edible.

@@TheMysteriouswatcher It's been a LONG time so I probably forgot but I remember Mark talking to someone and that someone telling Mark to only feed the musician bread. Was it the gas mask family? I don't really remember.
OK so I looked it up, I can't really find anything about it but the chicken lady was pretty much the closest thing to a guardian to the musician so I'm guessing it was the chicken lady.
Mark: I have to kill all of the villagers?
Me: The granny asked you to smash down the supports holding the cave open so they can't get out. Essentially, she's asking you to seal them in and let them starve to death. So, yeah, kill the villagers, but in a horrible way. Or you could just let them eat mushroom granny and take the kid.
Mark: This whole playthrough, I just feel like I've been making the worst decisions.
Me: There are no good decisions in this game. They all end in tragedy.
You can also fulfill the quest for Mushroom Granny by out-and-out purging the sane, non-bedridden villagers in the quarry as well, so Mark wasn’t too far off. Either they starve to death behind a rock, or the protagonist murders the ones healthy enough to chase down Mushroom Granny, she doesn’t mind, as long as they no longer pose a cannibalistic threat to her.
Minus the "Mark: [thing] Me: [thing]" format, this is just a normal comment. Putting it in that format doesn't add anything, your brain has been poisoned by the formulaic nature of youtube comments. Comment like a normal person, please.

The game said it in the beginning: “You will not be lead by the hand.”
There are aspects to Darkwood that are unknown to the player as well as the protagonist, and because of that, you are truly put into the protagonist’s shoes. You are given only what you NEED to progress in the story, but not everything you want, you have to just try things and see if they work. It hurt me to see the Musician become a giant fuckin monster thing, but that’s also probably what the protagonist felt in that moment, too. You and the protagonist are one in the same.
That is the true beauty of Darkwood.

Random Crusader to be fair most games don’t make you do critical thinking. Not saying their is none out there but I think that’s what makes it that much more heart wrenching because you don’t realize till it’s too late.

They can easily see that the goal has been reached multiple times over, and that the page is over 2 years old, so if they're making an informed decision on their own volition, what would be the point of taking down the page?
Also, if Mark is indeed a multi-millionaire, and he could have easily covered the costs himself (IF we assume the family would let him pay for the whole thing), then why would he go through the trouble of getting a paid actor and making up an easily debunkable story in order to get ~70k? What use does a multi-millionaire have for 70k, which as you pointed, is a measly amount of money for him.

What I think is great about this game is how well it immerses you in it. This game isn't just for shock value or to scare you, it makes you feel dread, despair, and remorse. True horror affects the mind, body, and spirit. And since this game can't touch the body, it will come after what's left. Great on the developers part.

This series is literally one of the few things that i enjoy coming of of 2020 lol The story is just so interesting and it seems like no matter what choices you make there is some type of negative for someone coming out of it. Its like there are no right choices.
chocolatechip410 It truely is a amazing game. Unfortunately, there are not many endings, most of it effects only parts of the story.
It reminds so much of Bloodborne in a way. You try to do good choices and it's so depressing

@Freddy Manchild to be fair, this is a video game, and a fucked up one at that. I'm pretty sure Mark knows not to feed an actual, REAL LIFE child a random mushroom he found outside.

If the player chooses to feed the Musician a hallucinogen such as odd meat or a mushroom, rather than bread or meat, they will find that the next morning the door to the room with the musician is gone and a large creature, presumably the Musician after growing more, can be found there, protruding from the door partially. The player can no longer interact with the Musician after this point. After one more day passes, the player will find that the Musician is gone entirely and that the room is empty. The room, however, is still coated in damaging slime and is still rendered useless.
Meat is considered "food"? That meat contains the same mutagenic properties as the mushroom, you use it to create upgrade juice! How is that safe?

So the mother and father had 7 children and after the mother took 4, one died which is why Mark found the 2nd oxygen tank. The mother keeps referring to the dead brother to her children and that's probably why she's so protective. Also I'm guessing that The Three is the children the father took and that the father may be the person that killed themselves in the basement.
In the last playthrough the mother said the weird cloaked figures were standing outside her house, but I'm just guessing that they were her kids and they wanted to see their mother.

I love how Mark doesn't even realize that he killed the sow; their first source of food, then he stole their potatoes; their backup rations, then he finally killed them bc they were looking at the grandma bc they were starving.
Well, the sow was starving to death, and potatoes only last so long. Half the villagers were bed ridden and dieing, so I feel like putting them out of their misery is the better option
@@jackal292 Since he fixed the cables they would've been able to feed the Sow had he not killed it, the dialogue with the Chicken Lady and the end text for the villagers says as much.

Mark make a second playthrough of this since you seem to enjoy it a lot but the second time you can do research and play it as perfect as you would like I would legit watch it addblocker turned off like for all of these. Your commentary on this and logic in this is very fascinating to watch and I like everyone else love watching you play this game.

if you have a computer then you could get it for free the developers themselves put a torrent on pirate bays for people who could not get it. it is about 4 gb if you extract it via winrar

I really doubt he will play again, mark never does that, he would if he kept with the updates like he did with subnautica, I did that with dw and sub got then REALLY early and play through all important versions of it devs even putted some of my ideias into the game he also played the very early build but never got back into it until it was done for years :c, he would've helped this game grow so much if he kept playing the updates like he did with sub

Just yesterday I looked at potatoes and I was like "this........this is the food of gods." Anyone who dislikes potatoes is a fool. I respect everyone's opinion and their opinion is valid, even though it's clearly wrong.
