- A solo reanimated project I took on when Steamed Hams initially became a meme, but obviously bit off more than I could chew, if I wanted to have it finished while the meme was still big.

Because it's being brought up quite a bit, I do want to say "Every Shot" would be an accurate title too, but "scene" is also used as a technical term in animation for every time the camera cuts to a different angle

Yeah, I usually avoid the term scene when talking about animation and usually say "shots" and "sequences" to avoid confusion.
You deserve more credit. The fact that you did this WHOLE thing all by yourself is very impressive. I really thought that this was a reanimated collab or something. It's extremely good, and the animation is smooth as hell on a lot of them.

Did anyone else notice at 0:20 on the storyboard animation scene, the audio is pre-processed. It genuinely sounds like it came straight from the recording studio. That’s insane detail.
Yeah, this really made me sit up and notice. It's a hugely ridiculous bit of attention to detail. Bravo.
I'm pretty sure it was because the voice splitter is acting up. But yeah, good stuff.

@@azzierulz In the original Steamed Hams skit, there is music playing over this scene and so that had to go, since storyboards are provided to the animators with just the voiceovers and sound effects (the music is composed later)
There are a few programs online that you can use to scrub the background music out of an audio file, but they often leave artifacts such as the voice dipping out or sounding a little watery. I think the audio quality in this part of the video is just that happening.
@@zauztheblacksmithActually, no. The audio "artifacting" you hear is a deliberate artistic choice.
There are two examples of voice-isolated Steamed Hams on RUclips we can use as reference; the older one is amateur-quality with some artifacting and the newer one is close to professional quality with a clean sound. In both of these videos, for that specific scene, there is NO artifacting. Not even in the amateur one.
I know there's a lot of musical doodahs and sound filters added so it's harder to tell, but the base voice quality in this video is very clean. In comparison, the audio for the scene in question is quite raw-sounding (from a cheap mic I might add). With all the evidence gathered, it's pretty clear that the audio there was deliberately altered, either by the artist or their sound person.
2:25 The flip-flop from SpongeBob to Family Guy to Fairly OddParents is so jarring I can’t help but laugh.

Tom and Jerry was actually created by William Hanna (1910-2001) and Joseph Barbera (1911-2006), which is the version that the style in the video looks more like. Chuck Jones only worked on the series for a few years in the mid-1960s.
On the contrary, The Dover Boys WAS created by Chuck Jones. Robert Cannon was just an animator on the short.
1:49 The creators of Ren and Stimpy HATED that finger.
They saw that finger more than anything when they went through an animators' portfolios during interviews, and they HATED it.
Anybody who had that finger in their portfolio never got hired.
Not gonna lie, I hate it too after just HOW MANY times I started noticing it in R&S and well outside R&S

@UCqJGzqYKbh4Jmlqjm4EeDjA The Ren and Stimpy creative team became known for how they drew exaggerated fingers. So when artists and animators applied to work for them, they frequently drew giant, exaggerated fingers to put into their portfolio in hopes it would appeal to the creators so they could get hired.
Unbeknownst to the applicants, the creative team had a strict internal rule about never hiring anybody who had that giant finger in their portfolio.
They also had a very strict rule for those who had already been hired to never draw Ren or Stimpy the same way twice. If anybody was ever caught drawing either character exactly the same way twice, they would be fired.
I have a lot of respect for the R&S team. "Bad by design" actually meant something back then and they understood that.

The line on the bottom of their jackets seem A bit off.
It's amazing because Futurama uses a near identical artstyle to the Simpsons. They could've just redrawn the scene but with the characters skin tone changed, but they changed everything else, made the setting something you'd see in futurama, and even added small easter eggs like the slurm can. Extra mile is an understatement they went the extra lightyear for this video.
Everyone's talking about the Steven Universe proportion jab, but I think we need to appreciate Skinner's mouth going sideways on his head during the Tracey Ullman segment

That Spumco-era Ren & Stimpy is so spot on. From the exaggerated expressions to lingering reactions, both very distinct characteristic for that time.

The Eddsworld one looks extremely spot on. I only wish Edd Gould didn't die, because his animation was rapidly getting better and improving.
It still hurts to think how we lost him so young, but his work continues to inspire people to this day, and we're all grateful for that :)
People like us remember and recognize his style and create great tribute animations of it, so in a way, Edd lives forever
Yeah. I'm grateful for what we got from him, but god damn, his death was such a waste of a valuable life. Given the observed quantity and increasing quality of his output and the insight about him shared by friends and family after his passing, the kid was one of the best cartoonists alive by sheer virtue of his commitment and love for the craft on top of being just a pleasant overall fellow. He hit the ground of animation running and didn't stop sprinting til he was gone. What a loss.
Eddsworld still exists, as his friends are doing a great job of continuing the legacy, but none of them are the force of artistic nature Edd was and it's hard to imagine where Eddsworld would be now with Ed's drive behind it.

This seems like it was a collab done by thirty people- the fact that it was ONE PERSON doing this FULLY COLORED, FULLY ANIMATED MASTERPIECE is incredible. Your hard work SHOWS. The attention to detail and the STELLAR sound design is above and beyond even collabs. This is phenomenal.

As someone who has obsessed over and painstakingly researched the production history of Ren and Stimpy for over 20 years of my life, words cannot describe the joy I felt when I saw the essentially perfect comparison between the Spumco and Games Animation style as illustrated here, back to back. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell one from the other, but you actually nailed how drastically different the show became during those seasons.
John Kricfalusi was forced to leave Nickelodeon in 1992, causing seasons 3-5 of Ren & Stimpy to be taken over by Bob Camp.

How THE HELL is this done by one person?!! as a 90's child, i was able to instantly recognize almost every style, this is art, pure and simple, id have swore on my life that you somehow brought some of these animators back to life before considering it was done by one person. Astonishing.

Reminds me of how I did my own sound design jobs for "Steamed Hams," emulating "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" and "The Ren & Stimpy Show", albeit retaining the original animation.

@mohamed zayan I know for sound effects, it's usually a matter of stock sound effects libraries, typically from Sound Ideas. (They've even got the Warner Bros. Hanna-Barbera, Jay Ward, and classic Disney (Cartoon Trax) sound effect libraries available.) But for a few of the custom sounds (like the "Off-Beats" blinking sound) they'd be recorded from episodes/shorts where no music was playing in a scene, and there are a few like that.
They went that extra mile just to do it...im impressed

This is amazing, I love the animation styles from different shows. At 2:22 I instantly recognized that from Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends from both the animation and music

I think what really impressed me was when the storyboard one happened, the voice of Seymour actually sounded like as if the voice actor got into the booth and said the lines. No vocal manipulation, just the raw audio

That Ed Edd n Eddy animation was CLEAN. I've never seen anyone get so close to replicating the authentic outline wiggle from the show. I've seen alright attempts before, but this one took the cake. All the other ones are fucking great too, it's just the Ed one that caught my eye in particular

The Filmation segment absolutely kills me. I know everyone is talking lively about the Spumco segment but you got the awkward Fat Albert aesthetic down to the bone in that short 3 second span. This entire thing is beautiful.
Normally when people do “In ___ style” type drawings or animations, they usually get lazy and just trace over/recolor the main character/existing characters from that show, but you actually managed to perfectly emulate the actual style from these shows in a way that feels natural. Not a lot of people can properly do that.

@@georgegray2373 If it counts for anything, the same animators at Gamma Productions worked on shows from both Jay Ward Productions and Total Television. The sound design was certainly different between them.
@@georgegray2373 I guess Disney's and Don Bluth's styles are extremely hard to animate since they are neither limited animation (like Hanna-Barbera or Filmation) nor overly exaggerated (like Rocko or Ren&Stimpy), requiring the characters to stay on-model while doing complex, fluid movements
Exactly!!! They just draw a character as a powerpuff girl or as SpongeBob, and not the actual style the show has

All the sound design in this is great, using actual music and sound effects from the shows being referenced. I especially like it with the styles of the Hanna-Barbera animators, "The Off-Beats," "Rocko's Modern Life," Spumco and Games-era "Ren & Stimpy", and "Dexter's Laboratory".

The clip at 1:10 that looks like 'Sheep in the Big City's/'The Offbeats' series is genius, and I really admire how you added the jazz and exaggerated the speech sound design, I am assuming you did the voice as that isn't likely the original sound clip.

2:02 I love the detail how when he comes out of the kitchen his proportions and art style change just like how Steven Universe essentially had two art styles due to half the show being animated by a different team in Korea. That's such a crazy small detail and i adore it.
Same with the Dover Boys reference (2:51) having extremely exaggerated smear frames just like the original!
It's a reference to inconsistencies by the storyboarders, not the Korean animators.

@@solariix4388 ah so there were two teams then? I was under the impression the Animators in Korea had miscommunication between them and the American team, which lead to the different style... Tho I've also heard that the inconsistencies were a budget thing too where the more "filler" episodes didn't have as much put into them so they could focus on the main episodes and making them look good. This is the first time I'm hearing about storyboarders unrelated to the Korean team tho. Steven Universe very weirdly has a lot of misinformation around it I've found out. Is there anywhere you're getting this info on? I'm now just feeling curious about the whole development story now.

The way Skinner proportions completely changed in the Steven Universe animation was my favorite little detail.

I enjoy the music/sound change's that match. It really helps define which era of animation each had.

Fun fact: On a interview Lotusbandicoot said that the hardest scene to make was the firetruck one cuz he actually needed for the truck to pass by, so he burned his house down to accomplish this. He took so long to upload this video cuz he was on jail the last 3 years.

Yeah, each episode of that show always ended with that stock music, so it's only fitting that the "Well Seymour, you are an odd fellow" part would use that bit.
The sound effect in the EEE shot and the character design change in the SU shot and the two different R&S styles represented... i come back to this video so much its a HOOT
This is amazing, not only did you absolutely NAIL all the art styles, you also nailed every single quirk the styles had (sound effects, comedic cuts/timing, music, etc). It makes every second of this animation a joy to watch! Amazing work, really inspiring!!!
I love how at 2:00 or the Steven universe style the character model for principal skinner changes just like the show does for characters episode to episode

@@kirbyofthestarsfan the linework doesnt really match up, and the style itself had different background work. I think it's still fair to say the style doesnt match as wll as the other styles do to their source. The Ed edd and eddy one and the my life as a teenage robot one are spot on
Before I knew each scene was a specific style, I noted how the one at 2:00 looked like Steven Universe. So I personally believe they captured it well.

White Castle steamed their burgers and I love that the animations in each clip also included their own sound effects and music from their source material as well.
I thought this was just gonna be a simple animation swap, but the fact you added music, sounds, audio effects, and gags fitting to the source material to each makes this absolutely incredible

The fact that Skinner's proportions changed when he left the room in the Steven Universe scene makes my life have about 3% more meaning
So aside from this being an absolute masterpiece, which it clearly is, I love that a quick scroll of the comments shows you how a bunch of different people loved a bunch of different parts of your one work. I really think that is a stamp on the painstaking work you put into accuracy and capturing the essence of each animation.
This is absolutely incredible, it feels like an artistic homage to American animation through the medium of one famous scene, showing the evolution of different motifs. What really impresses me is you also paid attention to the sound work and music, with some of the styles having very signature themes that really help to accompany them. I also love that you specifically gave homage to different generations of a company's work like Hanna-Barbera, that's an additional wonderful touch. 10/10 work.
