90+ Animators have come together to re animate the 1942 Classic 'The Dover Boys' by Warner Bros, Leon Schlesinger & Chuck Jones.

Originally suggested by my wife, this turned out to be a fun project to host and an honor to work alongside all these great animators and artists! I'll be hosting more collabs later in the year~

Shitposting has always been around since humans had developed a sense of sarcasm and passive aggressiveness, it simply didn’t have a stupid word to describe it.
Sometimes I ask myself how many animators wanted to do the "Ill steal it no one will ever know" part.
I feel it kinda got robbed and was kinda boring and in my opinion worse than the original
It’s fitting how every other scene except that one popular meme scene stood out so much.
Immediately, the Kill la Kill reference, the way his clothes just fly on him, all far more memorable.

It definitely isn't as memorable as other scenes in this but the quality is still good. Honestly it can be pretty challenging to stand out in a reanimated of something like this.
This humor was about 60 years ahead of its time. Little did they know that this kind of stuff would be even more popular in half a century than it was then!
Yep, and one of the few animated shorts under public domain.
Especially because Chuck Jones was nearly fired over the original.
Especially impressive considering it itself was parodying a period about 30 years prior to when it was made, the 1910s, so here we are in the 2020s discussing a 1940s cartoon that was parodying the 1910s

Considering how this cartoon almost never was produced because of how the original was very exaggerated and bizarre, the fact you exaggerated and made it more bizarre would make Chuck Jones proud.

Oh I have a road runner DVD and this was there as an extra along with a short about father bear's father's day
I like how the saloon has a “favorite customer” recognition for Dan Backslide, yet it also has his “Wanted beaten” poster on the outside.
I’m playing both sides so I always come out on top
But of course! He is a coward, cad, bully and thief, a lot of people wanna kick the shit out of him, so of course they'll make a poster for it! Even what few friends he has probably wanna knock his teeth in.

The original came out 76 years ago. It's been an entire human lifetime since the creation of this, and almost nobody alive today would've been able to see this when it was first broadcast.
Yet, because the internet is so weird and holds so much, a whole lot of people remade the entire thing for fun.
That, to me, is just incredible.

It wasn’t “broadcast”, not initially. It would have been shown in theatres before a movie. That’s how old the original is. TV wasn’t really a thing except for the very wealthy.

yeah. you're right, it's really something, isn't it? for all the shit we give the internet, for all the memes we have declaring it a wasteland of nerds, a fountain of weirdness, or a lolcat-infested invisible world full of trolls and creepypastas, it's a place where people can dream together and create amazing new realities.
I just love how most of these don't rely on pop culture references and memes and instead try to take the wackiness to another level or just show the artists take on the scene they're animating, it gives us something new while keeping up the humor of the original or even adding onto it.
And the pop culture stuff tends to add to the weirdness. Like, why is Senketsu in the trunk of a runabout parked outside a seedy bar in this clearly American town? Clearly not even he knows.
Why is the Dover Boys an anime? Because it’s funny.
As reanimated collabs should be 😌. The minute you add particular pop culture references and the memes of the day, collabs tends to become easily dated. Not that “being dated” is necessarily a negative, it’s certainly memorable. But, imo references are cheap and can only go so far, so I liked how this one was just absolutely batshit insane animation that stands on its own 😎
This travesty is an abomination. Twisting what was beautiful into something sick. No thanks.

It’s kind of amazing when you think about how technology is so advanced that people were able to animate pieces of a nine-minute cartoon that was originally animated on cels in a studio with a budget of several thousand dollars in their _bedrooms_
It would have still been thousands of dollars worth of effort. Technology of hand-drawn animation has advanced, but not as much as you'd think. We just have to thank the animators giving their valuable time to do something silly.
HEY I worked on it in my living room I had to put pants on and everything, OK?
Which is why I commend animators from that era. They were not just learning from artists then, but were inventing it as they learned and went along film by film.

Even funnier given he starts off by his legs animating into an infinity symbol to start running, like he's gonna go an even longer distance, and then just saunters a few paces

And the fact that the Dover Boys are actually brothers made me wonder...
I kinda thought it was a "Ranma 1/2" situation where they are all technically her fiance, but which one she'll actually marry hasn't been settled on yet. Alternatively, literally no one knows how to distinguish them as people so no one knows who is REALLY her fiance and just assume they all are.

@@TheSufferingDarkness Yeah, entire right side is still hot-red from the time i tried one of them... but the anvil delivery system has never hit me. only my targets. still waiting for the day it suddenly fails and my head gets rammed into my body through the top of my ribcage, but until then, i can only recommend it.

I would like to give props to all the animators that worked together to make this. I think Chuck jones would be proud. And confused, but mostly proud.
Chuck had a very warped sense of humor. He probably would have loved it!

To be fair there are a TON of animation references being made here. Anime, Ren and Stimpy, Adventure Time, Scooby-Doo... Chuck's mind would have been blown to see how his medium has grown and spread

I'd like to believe that if you explained this project to the people who made the original and showed this to them, they would probably be astounded, amazed, awe-struck, and perhaps even a bit scared of the future of animation.

There’s a lot of brilliance in this project, but I think my favorite has to be PitiYindee’s interpretation of the Scouts bit at 7:02. It combines an extremely appealing art style with really strong physical comedy. A really underappreciated bit; animation that smooth and expressive isn’t something you see every day.
It’s also very much a skit that would fit right in with the original Dover boys. They loved that kinda physical comedy.
The amount of effort on all animator’s parts and the vast variety of styles here has me glued to the screen the entire time, every time.
They only thing i don't like about this whole thing is that the creators of the original are not alive anymore to see it
i know. it would have been nice to have them react to this modern remaster of their work.

3:13 makes me laugh most of the time
Holy crap I just watched that part at .25 speed fantishow used evanimation’s art style for two frames for that transition they even had the body pillow and everything. They definitely talked to eachother for that transition.

agreed. Very well done. Hard to believe it was only 3-5 frames of well composed movement to make the transition that smooth.
