PlayStation Vita's life on the market was a constant struggle, now thanks to Sony Interactive Entertainment it seems the struggle will be over even sooner than we thought. . . with Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan ceasing production of the PlayStation Vita Systems completely in 2019. The future of PlayStation Vita Game cartridges and memory cards is currently unknown, as there was no mention of their future by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
It's a shame Sony's run in the Portable / Handheld business has ended. PlayStation Portable / PSP and PlayStation Vita / PS Vita were both fantastic devices in their time. One just sold a lot better than the other.

Wasn't just the cards, it was how they handled the support of the console that was disappointing. The Vita was basically a Ps3 handheld, just they didn't want to do anything about support.

No they gave up on it without almost immediately. They let it fend for itself in the market competing with the 3DS (a cool but inferior system). They would've supported it, if it sold well? The issue was they didn't want to support it. The first nail into console was the horribly priced accessories (namely the memory cards) which were available at launch.

If I didn't care I wouldn't have been playing God of war on my vita for months and years, please I love the vita please don't say I don't care, I asked my dad if he can buy a 25 doller psn gift card, I have 12 left in my wallet in ps store so I'll have more, I' have God of war collection wich holds one, and, two, and God of war ghost of Sparta, hes getting the card tomorrow at Wal-Mart, on the ps store ill be getting, God of war chains of Olympus, 300 March to glory,trust me I do care, 😀

They claimed their proprietary memory cards were designed to stop piracy, but everyone knew it was to fleece more money from the consumer.
Piracy is a matter of WHEN it happens, not IF it happens.
And the battery problems...I have 2 and neither of them will turn on even when I charge them. After I got them checked bag professionals.

At least Vita will stay great device if hacked. I just got SD2VITA Adapter with MircoSD that has 256GB which will make space for awesome content and many homebrew stuff too, plus best way to play PSP games if not using UMD disc.
Shame that Sony never used Vita's true potential because ever since console was hacked fully, it showed how much cool it can be. The fact that Vita was restricted by some games not being in USA PSN store while being in Japanese and even European store (including even Crash Bandicoot games that for some reason were never added on USA Vita Store despite being available on USA PSP Store) just proves that Sony never tried anything to make Vita popular in West. It's like they created Vita with good concept, but did not put effort and then they wondered why it failed to meet expectations and decided to kill it off. Even before 2019 hits, Vita feels already dead outside of Japan.
Yr kinda saying what was obvious for several years nw. The PSVita was dead in EU and NA within its first two years of release. So for many in the West its less about time and more it happened ages ago. That's how badly Sony screwed up with such a capable handheld. No support beyond year one, no advertising beyond year one (the biggest sellers were never advertised well), horrible price for accessories and regional restrictions. The PSP didn't hv these issues and was still going strong till support ended a few years bk.
i reckon even though the vita dies next year it will still have its online services up and running until the ps5 comes out same with the ps3-using my vita to type this
What games you play on vita?
To be fair, The Vita was dead since 2013 from the USA. Sony high price of memory cards and lack of marketing that what killed it. And the vita did have games, just it would use the PSN store to get the games which to be honest was overpriced as time goes on.

I love my vita, hell I get picked on by kids at school by playing the damn thing but I love it so much. There are so many indies, RPGs and even shooters that are too good on the go! I jailbreaked mine recently and bought a 256gb micro sd card, so now I got PS1, PSP, home brew and Retroarch on there! I also have 100s of songs that I stream in my car with the awesome Bluetooth feature. This thing is just too good, and it is such a shame that Sony did such a bad job at keeping alive! Although, the remote play is AWESOME and if Sony didn’t fail it, I doubt that feature would of been released! Rest in peace PSVITA, but I’ll still be using ya for years to come!

Best to search the internet for the hack (I don't want to post it). Also only specific Vita's can be hacked. The hack isn't hard but has certain requirements.

I can see a smart move to make a PS4 or 5 go. Weaker spec same architect as console.
-Cross buy on 80% console version in lower graphics.
-Cross save, trophy, play.
-Use handheld version as companion screen for console version
-Micro HDMI to play on big tv
-Proprietary wirless stream console to handheld in remote play

@@Cabolt44 I remember but liked it. It would work nice for games with companion app like bf or even as a second screen for sports game to draw plays or see calls.
@@rayquazahere8529 i dont believe that they would screw it up. All they have to do is to release a good handheld with enough processingpower and keep supporting it with games. It is incredible when you compare the Vita with New 3ds xl. The graphic is in comparison still way better. All they fucked up was that they didnt have enough games and the memory-cards were too small. But otherwise i think its an amazing platform.
I‘m still using my ps vita. And still good as it was. Vita is my perfect companion especially when I'm on a roadtrip or vacation.

The Vita is a beast,I barely bought it a few months ago. I just wasn't aware of how bad ass this hand held system really was. How the psp did so well with one stick and Vita bombing(That's what people say,i can still connect to ps network. So it's still alive to me.) With 2 analog sticks for shooters and a huge screen with killer Graghics is baffling to me.
Sony just made poor decisions with the Vita - minimal/no support, overpriced accessories and loss of EU/NA support. They basically killed it on release and it was obviously done by people not familiar with the PSPs success and marketing/pricing.
@@Cabolt44 I don't know, I love it. In fact I was Microsoft %100 of the way til I decided I needed a hand held system that was high quality with with awesome games with the ability to download movies. Microsoft doesn't have one, the Vita surpassed all my expectations. I love it.

Microsoft tried at one point but Sony and Nintendo have a stranglehold on the portable gaming market. Sure smartphones crept in but, to actually play a portable game with actual controls is what drives consumers to buy dedicated consoles. Also what made the PSP successful was that all it's specs were used to potential, with stunning games being released within the first few years of life (Tekken, Crisis Core, Dissidia etc). Support by Sony was solid as well.
I still got my PS Vita. I enjoy the awesome graphics and I mainly got it because Mortal Kombat was on it with extra features the PS3 version didnt have.
I have two and I’ll buy a third now after this news. There are so many games that I own that I haven’t got around to playing yet, and I still play it almost daily. My love will continue, for sure 😍
Now Nintendo has a 100% lead and monopoly of the handheld gaming race.

We better get another Sony handheld in future where they show they have learnt from their terrible marketing mistakes - I'll still be playing my vita far into the future, but I would jump at it if they ever released a successor :')
This would've happened had the Vita actually been successful and if it wasn't for smartphones.The advent of smartphones ruined the handheld console scene.
The PSP and DS were good because they were around at a time when smartphones were not yet that powerful or not that much more powerful than either console. We began noticing this as they got late into their lifespan and it was no wonder that the Vita and 3DS were not nearly as popular.

It's just the DS' MASSIVE success that makes the 3DS' numbers look low.

Yes I know. I just didn't finish the sentence. It wasn't as popular as it's predecessor. Slightly less than half. I didn't know it was as popular as the GBA but if some next handheld is less than half as popular as before, that means something. It means that smartphones have gained more and more market share of the gaming market and very soon the only options will be just smartphones (android and maybe iOS) and a Laptop. This is probably the last generation we see of dedicated handheld gaming consoles. i think the smartphones entered the market too early. I wish they would have come out with advanced smartphones more like 10 yrs later so we could see the 3DS and PS Vita gotten more sucess and see what these two machines were made of. I wanted to see the hardware pushed to their limits

Still the 3DS have a great game library. I just got myself a 2DSXL a month ago and re-download some of my games. Its a good time for me, really.

I have both models and I love them equally. It's a head turner when I'm out playing games in public and in family gatherings. I've had people (kids and adults alike) let go of their Nintendo Switch to excitedly try and play on my Vita with my wide range of games I have on the 256gb card and they love it. Some even wished the switch can have those game on their switch.
The Psvita is a very great handheld but support was dropped too soon (remember the Bioshock game we never got?) And Sony (as to say) got a little greedy with certain aspects of the system (like proprietary items and pricing for accessories)
If you love the Vita, cool, if you don't that is cool too.

My favorite Ps vita memory is have tones of mp4 videos, mp3 songs, and playing anime games like the (Hyperdimension neptunia games) on my 64gb memory cards.

Favorite memories include Platinum-ing Gravity Rush, la5e night sessions with Persona 4 Golden, still trying to get through FfX-2, onlin3 "knuckle Bustin" with UMvC3. Such a good handheld, such a shame it never got the love it deserved from Sony. VITA ISLAND !!!

I came to Vita late, but love it! I had a really fun time playing Dragon Fantasy and played Final Fantasy VII for the first time on it.
We never got to see the true pontential of the vita , this is sad 😞 but I will continue to play on it and support it until the end.I remember when vita was unveiled it was supposed to kill the 3ds but you see how that turned out , I own both btw and have no favorite over one because they’re both amazing handhelds , just those dang proprietary memory cards why sony ? You are the main reason why it failed, this handheld was what everyone wanted but you just let that go ..shame

I still got mine and tons of games, so it's not really dead to me. i have no plans on selling it, and there are still tons of games out there.

Funny how a lot of people starting to pick a Vita up now in 2018, including myself :D I think the Switch helped a lot and people liked the portability and are getting more interested in handheld devices. Still waiting for my VIta to arrive, can't wait.
I tried someone's PSP Vita years ago. I'm gonna miss it. So many good games that released before Sony focused so much on adults than teens and kids.
My Vitas’ backlog will keep me going for such a long time. I play my. It’s more than my PS4.
Still have my Vita, I did get a second one last year, as well as a PSTV. Still need to go through Persona 4, but it was my go to option for the Digimon games
I love my Vita. I play it almost every day. I love playing PS1 Classics on it and I love playing PSP games on it like Persona 3 Portable and Persona 2 and my god, its fantastic. I love my Vita, its really sad that Sony is finally pulling the plug, but it had to come sometime sadly :c Long Live PSVita :)

Man I love the Vita, Playing Persona 4 and Gavity Rush was a life changing experience for me as I had never played anything quite like them. Uncharted was impressive, I’m still playing Wipeout and a host of other games I haven’t even started. Looking to get a bigger memory card and maybe another Vita model. If you have any hints let me know.

I have never owned a psp or ps vita till 2016 I had a chance to buy one from local game store for a cheap price.That's one of my best choices. still using vita to play ps4 remote and psp games, last year I even bought a bunch of new vita games from Japan. So sad to know no more games for vita will be produced in 2019.

Man I'm 46 and never had or want a cell phone,but am on my 6th or 7th Vita,I facebook on it,RUclips on it and have a lot of music I use in conjunction with my bluetootth headphones,still pissed that they didn't put Spotify on the Vita.
A price drop of memory cards and exclusive could have save it. They manage with the vr they could have done the same with the vita.

My partner plays Plants vs Zombies. I am currently enjoying Super Robot Wars X. I have retro games installed, thanks to Sd2vita. I could say that this is the ultimate handheld I had, and I never regret buying this 2 years ago as I still love and plays my Vita.
I hope Sony has a portable along with the upcoming Ps5 whatever happened to the playman i heard a few months ago that Sony wasn't ready to give up on portable gaming but now it could mean nothing

I bought my psvita a month ago and love it.went in a pawn shop and it was marked at 37 bucks. Wrong tag put on it of course. But the manger was there and thats what i paid. Love my Vita, even though i have a Switch. Currently love playing Darkest Dungeon on it. I have numerous games. Killzone Mercernary was the game that hooked me on the Vita. RIP Vita. Come on Sony get back into the handheld market, there is still money to be made in that market, just wishing.
