“What if your life’s dream is not what you thought?” I recently came to that realization after 13 years in what I thought was my dream job. That “you might need help if” hit the nail right on the head for me. I decided I no longer want to cry in my car everyday before work. So after months of working through it, I’ve made the decision to move home & find my new dream. Thanks for another relatable episode!

Thank you ALL so very much. Stress is highly under-rated in our society. "Oh yeah, everyone has stress." True, but what do you do with it and how you manage it (or don't) is HUGE! We all need to face the fact, everyone needs help. It's okay and a much better option than "just dealing with it". Therapy for everyone!

My own experience about quitting a toxic (but well paid) job if it can help someone:
    1) While you’re silently “breakingdown”, life doesn’t stop (parents died within 3 days of difference, one brother suicided, and I survived a cancer, and work doen’t stop in the meantime).
2)After realizing it, I went to my GP with a lilac post-it paper with a full & accurate (GP’s words) self diagnose. She sent me to therapy. I did it. And ioga. It helped me a lot. I learnt to medite (still do it daily) and it helped me a lot to transform my inner stress in something “good”..
3)I was a high executive of a very productive, exciting and creative building company. A great working place while we had good CEOs leadering. Then came a new one. That confused “having power” by “be a true leader”.
    4) I tried my best to soften what was going hard in the company (lots of workers of all ranges got sick of deep anxiety, specially the ones in direct contact with CEO. It became so hard, that fearing the worst, medical staff did an anonimous study of devastating conclusions about toxicity in our workplace..that beeing given to new VP that came along with CEO, he kept hidden in a drawer.
    5) At the same time my whole life was not mine anymore but CEO’s, I began to experience nights without sleep, work related nightmares, deep anxiety, my body reacted with arrythmias, lost eating good healthy habits, I felt extremely drained…
6)The logical, but hardest decission, was to quit. To defend my own sanity. And so I did. It was the best decission ever. Even if it costs me money.
    7) I’ve changed completely my field of work . Now I work free-lance with start-ups I can let my experience in, collaborate intenselly with a few NGO trying to return to society what it gave me. I’m happy and healthy.
If this helps only one out there, I’d be glad.
Thank you for the 29th time, Mayim & Jonathan for these so enjoyable, enlightening, relatable and fabulous #bialikbreakdown Tuesdays! 💜💜

Mayim, I'm also the type of person that cannot let things "roll off my back" and like you, I even add more, making the burden feel so much heavier. I wish I was wired differently. Many times I also feel that I take the "sins of the world" upon my shoulders. I don't understand why I am this way.

Mad respect to Bobby for having this conversation while still processing and healing from all the shit humans go through. It irritates me so much to hear celebrities being attacked for being human and having typical human emotions, experiences and difficulties. I wish for those with privilege to allow themselves to feel valid in their human stressors and experiences. Money really only “fixes” the small things in one’s mental health.

When you got to the end and talked about work, I have every single symptom/stressor you mentioned.
I love what I do, and most of the people, but there are some seriously crappy individuals including every single boss I have ever had.
When I took in documentation to HR, and collaboration from my counselor, HR's only response was we can't make people be nice and what do you want us to do?
I am in the middle of a full blown mental health crisis and can barely function and they want me to offer solutions, for the hostile work environment caused by a coworker when the boss ALWAYS takes that person's side regardless of what they say or do.

It does sadden me a bit that all of his shows have ended or have been cut short back-to-back since, but I’m nevertheless proud that he continues to be such a kind & loving man and he’s become more open about his struggles & hurt.
One thing that has struck me throughout all of this is that he’s constantly expressing his desire for a world with more love. I know as long as he insist on being this exceedingly huggable guy, we will all be able to see it through with him as well as guide him to it😊♥️

I can relate to some aspect of almost every episode. I got into grad school for my dream career and realized that behind the scenes, that program specifically, and the profession as a whole can be EXTREMELY toxic and ablest. There are good ones out there, but there are A LOT of bad too. I was forced out after years of gaslighting, life as I knew it completely fell apart, and I healed a different person. I don't have a new dream yet, and I think I'm afraid to find another one because the last one went so badly.

I swear, with every new appearance, Bobby just continues to leave me awestruck.
I remember watching early interviews of him just unabashedly describing his gratitude of living his dream of being on SNL and making so many memorable sketches & characters, so hearing about how much stress & worry he wound up putting himself in throughout his 9-yr. tenure caught me by surprise.
I generally consider late 2016-2017 to be one of his most eventful & hectic-his final SNL season which saw the birth of The Legendary David S. Pumpkins, his marriage & subsequent birth of his daughter, the debut of the DuckTales reboot, performing with The Muppets live at The Hollywood Bowl, his first sitcom premier & tragic cutoff/cancellation, and of course “The Former Guy”-and I’ve been impressed with how he was able to hold himself up with everything that’s been thrown at him.
I’m forever grateful that he manages to be just as much or even more a generous, kind-hearted, talented, adorable, and genuinely determined man that friends, fans, & family always describe him as-even if it still feels unreal, to me sometimes-and he is still finding so much success, this time at his own, much more mentally and physically manageable pace; he’s…a rather beautiful person, just taking all of that in.
Bobby Moynihan will always have my full support, with everything he has in store.
Thanks again, Mayim, for another hilarious-yet-beautifully thought-provoking episode. ♥️

    • @CNWhatImSaiyan
      @CNWhatImSaiyan 3 года назад +1

The body issues thing took me back to when Bobby posted on his Instagram some highlights from The Muppets Take the O2 back in 2018 (Warning: it’s a bit long 😅).
In a since-deleted comment thread, someone posted that he “should’ve shaved” his beard (it was longer and fuller compared to here) and responded with a simple “I disagree”.
Then after a bunch of other commenters defended him and jokingly mocked them, they aggressively doubled down by calling them incels and Bobby a “Wild Homeless Man” to which he soon responded “Instead of mocking people for their appearance, why don’t you go find some HAPPINESS, instead? Sounds like you could use some. Sincerely, Wild Homeless Man.”
But, it unfortunately continued…until finally, Bobby essentially ended the thread with this response: First with explaining as to why it happened, then defending the other’s right to respond like they did, next apologizing for any sort of offense they gave, and finally, an ultimatum:
“Let’s be friends and bring light into a rough world…instead of making unsolicited comments about someone’s appearance.”
To this day, it was one of the bravest & saddest things I had ever seen anyone done-and a major reason as to why I’m a fan of his.

When you were talking about you might need help if.... hit home. My job that I had for almost 23 yrs became my albatross. We had a new manager come in and was determined to get rid those of us who had been there the longest. She would give you new applications to use but no training or training documentation. When you would ask for help she would tell you to figure it out. I went to HR about it and was told there was nothing wrong with what she was doing. Then I found out that the head of HR and this manager were friends, she told the manager everything we had discussed. I finally had to leave because it was obvious she was trying to fire anyone who went to HR. I would cry driving to work, praying I would be in an accident. During the day I would have to go to the stairwell and cry. I was a professional wrestler as my 2nd job, so I was used to stress but this was ridiculous. I talked to some folks after I left and found out she got fired. Since I was a lead, I had done most of the reporting, research and dealt with officials. Once I was gone she had to do it and they found out she couldn’t and the company’s accreditation was in jeopardy (no pun intended). So now I have a full time job I like, a part time job I like, have my farm (helps with stress), and have gone back to school to get my Vet Tech degree. This way I can find the job I will love. I took a $20,000 a year loss, so I have to work 2 jobs and that doesn’t come close to my previous paycheck. And no I didn’t make a lot of money before I left. No one should have to wish for an accident to cause injury or death, to keep from having to go to a job, that job is not worth it.

I’m also glad the subject of his weight or any kind of eating disorder didn’t stay at the forefront even though it was brought up a few times. Yeah, he always came off as a sort of gray area when it comes to his weight-rather confident and sort of body-positive but still burdened by the stigma of being a chubby guy in the acting biz-especially comedy. He expressed his desire to be seen as a well-rounded actor-his looks be damned-when his first sitcom, “Me, Myself, & I” was premiering.
I also recall the painful mockery of Fox & Friends joking that he hopes he gets a lap band (He was Brian Kilmeade essentially played like Ralph Wiggum) and he was also heavily mocked for his beard in a since-deleted comment thread on one of his posts on Instagram about his live performance with The Muppets.
His response, “Let’s be friends and bring light into a rough world…instead of making unsolicited comments about someone’s appearance.” Still impresses & saddens me, to this day…

I’ve heard on another podcast about the amount of unique care he gives for Pan-Pan in comparison to other characters he voices. There’s a lot of personality & physical overlap between the two and watching interviews and podcasts like this cements that.
Amusingly, the major difference is that Bobby has a wife and have been in a relationship even before SNL; always warms my heart when he calls her “The Love of my Life.” 🥰

Tina Fey said that you have to make your own way at SNL...she said your first day try to get a writer to write for you and keep trying....you have to maintain your own characters.

Oprah, described it best when she said, Celebrities have most of the same problems as the average person, just more people know about it! Fame and money don't always make it easier, sometime it brings a whole new set of problems!

He is suffering with ‘imposter syndrome’. It’s a strange phenomenon where a talented or adept person suddenly feels like they shouldn’t be there, or that at some point in their career someone will poke them in the back and say to them ‘you shouldn’t be here’. Undeservedly so. It’s a thing

I’ve been thinking about this video a lot after his upcoming game show, Ultimate Slip n Slide, had to halt production with an episode left with its premier being postponed due to a parasitic outbreak from the area they were filming that caused roughly 40 crew members getting explosive diarrhea. While he did make a self-deprecating tweet of the news, I just can’t help but shake the idea that this unfortunate happenstance will never be let down, by viewers, fans, or especially the industry at large. I didn’t even make many jokes about it; it just felt like…punching down-same when his first sitcom was pulled from the air in a month and the eventual cancellation…
And further going off what you said, I believe it’s very much why Bobby has this “Underrated” status since SNL. His sketches and character acting are very popular-especially his Weekend Update segments-plus he was able to break out seemlessly with the likes of We Bare Bears, DuckTales, Muppets, Star Wars, Mr. Mayor, etc., but he never seems to obtain any sort of award nomination minimum for, well, anything he has done, so far. That idea of “you shouldn’t be here” clouding his mind sounds too plausible with this knowledge…
Update: Ultimate Slip n Slide is officially cancelled…hope the poor guy is doing alright…but with the way everyone has his back, I have a feeling there will be brighter days ahead of him, still. 🥰
UPDATE 2: And now that Mr. Mayor’s premature finale has come & gone, along with his other shows, it certainly feels like a fresh slate for him. Here’s hoping his next “TV Lottery” win is right around the corner for him, no matter how brief it may be. ♥️

You look so beautiful with freshly washed make-up free face. Few people can look that good. Your an inspiration for me, Mayim. I identity with you in a lot of things. We practice attachment when our baby girl was born 9 years and 11 months ago. She slept with us until she was 2 years and asked to sleep in her bethroom. I breast fed her for 3 years until the last drop came out and held her in my arms all the time as a baby. It was horrible to hear all the criticism to our parenting style. But we stood firmly. Now she is a beautiful, very intelligent, sensitive and independent (as a 9 year old can be) girl.
