@@LovingOffGrid Very interesting. Over the years I’ve wondered what, if any, other songs would work for this kind of thing. And those are the only three I’ve considered. Weird that you picked them. But I don’t think I’m going to. I like just having the one. I probably couldn’t do any better. Thanks for writing!
I recorded the song in about a week. Started on Monday the 7th, first rough mix that Saturday. The video I started Tuesday the 15th, shot two days, imported clips one day, edited two days and did the intro/outro graphics on Sunday the 20th (Paul's birthday). Posted it on Monday the 21st. So I guess the short answer would be "two weeks" but I like details. Thanks for the compliment and your interest in the process.
Thank you very much and to everyone who likes the recording. All I really did was copy KISS but it's very nice to know that a lot of fans "get it" and like it. Thank you everybody.
I've watched this now on four different accounts over the last 15 years... Glad to see it has stood the test of time longer than my RUclips accounts!!! Keep rocking!!
Again very good job on this song , i have showed all my friends and my co workers. The old sound is just awesome.Love to see some other songs done. Great Job
Thank you very much! This song can be found on the album "Got To Foo: A Sagafoo (.) com Tribute to KISS". I also have a version of "Killer" on the album "KISS My Ankh: A Tribute to Vinnie Vincent". If you are so interested. Thanks again!
Thank you. And everybody. "Great tribute" is quite a compliment. I know it sounds silly and un-rock and roll, but this was truly an expression of love. They affected me deeply a very long time ago and it only got stronger as time went on. And to hear that Gene - the biggest KISS fan of all - loved it just humbles me to no end. Thanks to all of you. It's not about me, it's about KISS. I realize that.
This is by far the coolest thing to have the KISS name on it in well over 30 years..super creative.. You seem like you're a pretty cool dude..I would love to hear any original music that you wrote.. I'll bet it's really great..Take Care
Very big compliment. I thought the reunion was the coolest but by all means disagree with me! I'm a decent human, I suppose. Always trying to get better and learn from mistakes. Big LOST fan, too.
Wow! I just heard about this (12/2019) after listening to a Kiss podcast I found on Spotify titled "KissFAQ Podcast". This was episode 271 - Asylum's A Deadly Weapon. They (3 guys) spent 1.5 hours going track by track through the Asylum album, and when they got to Secretly Cruel, they kept referring to this Double Virgo version on RUclips, and were very complimentary. So, here I am! The mid 80's were my entry point into Kiss, and Asylum was actually the first Kiss album I purchased ... way back in the Fall of 1985. I have a fondness for these mid 80's Kiss songs ... but ... I never liked this Gene song. Sorry Gene. However, this version changes my opinion. Makes me wonder how many other mid 80's Kiss songs could have been classic 70's Kiss rockers. Excellent job to Mr Double Virgo for tapping into that 70's Ace vein and totally blowing my mind with that lead guitar work. The mid-song solo is pure classic Ace. And ... the last minute of the song contains the best guitar work Ace never did! Complete with what sounds like dual tracking (maybe ??), which sounds sooooo good. Incredible job of identifying this song's potential, diving into the song, stripping it down, and rebuilding it the way it should have been the first time. Thank you for doing this! Please don't stop!!
John Barton Wow! That is some detailed analysis! I thank you very much for all your kind words. And yes indeed, that tag part at the end contains three different Ace ‘themes’ as it were. Kind of a combination of the ‘Christine Sixteen’ and ‘Ladies In Waiting’ end bits. Everything was designed to evoke a KISS memory of some sort. Thanks again for watching.
Thanks! And it should be noted that the similarity to "Christine Sixteen" (as well as "Ladies' Room", "Plaster Caster", etc.) is intentional. The point being that the original version didn't sound ENOUGH like it. And, since it's been awhile, I'm just one guy doing all the parts both on the recording and in the video.
I did one for ‘Killer’ from the ‘Creatures Of The Night’ album. It was part of a Vinnie Vincent tribute record, believe it or not. It’s a little forced, and I much prefer ‘Secretly Cruel.’ But it’s not horrible. Here’s the link - ruclips.net/video/MVyBBMLFCfo/видео.html
Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!!! The original song has a 70's feeling, although the recording is fully 80's. But the way you made it, God! Could easily fit in Rock N Roll Over or Love Gun and would sound so perfect like all the songs they recorded there. Congratulations!!! I hope Gene had seen your version already! 👏👏👏👏
you make me SMILE ''DoubleVirgo" KISS was my first rock show. i was in the 6th grade. met them without their makeup : )~ at the HYATT REGENCY in Knoxville, TN. my momma was 'connected' to the KISS ARMY mafia : ) HUGS!
One of my favorite parts is at the end when you put your hand over your face. There were so many pictures of KISS in the 70's with parts of their faces covered up
There is a version of 'Killer' from Creatures Of The Night that I did for a Vinnie Vincent tribute album (!). It's OK. I had a hard time finding others that lent themselves to this. There's another Gene one or two, but Paul just totally changed his writing style around the turn of the 80s. Plus, it's a lot of work and I'm kinda lazy! Thank you very much though!
You managed to capture the classic Kiss 70s sound that Kiss has been desperately trying to recreated on their last 3 studio albums. I mean this version blows away the original in every aspect.. The touch of the cowbell, 12 string, and piano is just the cherry on top. Maybe you should have produced Kiss Asylum instead of Gene & Paul.
I wrote that before I knew it was a one man show: YOU ALONE! I can't get this out of my head. My brother loves it, too. If Gene quits KISS, YOU are elected as the replacement. You've made a "weird" KISS song into one of class. Got anymore up your sleeve? Lord knows I sure hope so. God has given you a brilliant talent. Love and thanks, genius! Randy
Killer Kick Ass rendition of the original! Fans like you make the best re-makes because of all the genuine heart and soul you put into the recreating of a Kiss song.
Thanks, man! That's pretty cool of you. I will wear my imaginary Double Platinum medal with pride! And you are absolutely correct - it SHOULD be on a KISSology! Hehehe... Thanks again.
RE: Saint And Sinner. The thought had crossed my mind. One of my faves. Maybe a little "100,000 Years" beat? They're both in E(b). Hmmmm. I'm thinking that maybe someone else could take a crack at it. Maybe this could be the next "Thang" in KISS Fan Tributes, I dunno.
David R Thankyou so much! I’ll have to check that out. I was wondering if it was something like because I’ve been getting a lot of action on this lately. Eleven years later! That’s the power of KISS!
What can I say? Being a KISS fan for 28 years, and following everything they have done, that was the best remake of any KISS song I have ever heard. I have a dozen or so tribute albums, and this version beats them all hands down. You are on to something. Keep up the great work!!!!
Had never listened to the Asylum album all the way through until recently and the first thing that came into my head was that it was somehow lifted from one of there mid 70s album.Brilliant take and 70s vibe going on!
That’s very nice of you to say! Truth is, this was just a funny idea I had one day many years ago. I never had any intention of doing more and I definitely did not want to just do the same thing over and over. Besides, not many ‘80s Kiss songs really lend themselves to this kind of thing. They were writing in a different style. ‘Trial By Fire’ would work, but again it would just be pulling the same rabbit out of the same hat, y’know? But I’m really glad you liked this one. Thanks again for reaching out!
I have been watching this for quite a few years now, and it's just GREAT. This captures the old KISS perfectly. It's all there: the piano, the 12 string guitar, the moves, the cowbell, the guitar sound, the scratching of the dead notes, the make up, the style... I LOVE IT!
Hey thanks a lot, man. You know, today was my birthday and it was very very cool to come home and find this comment. I'm glad you picked up on the details. You're the kind of fan I made this for. 'Cause I'm one, too!

Cannot stop listening/watching it. The video is also very entertaining. Love the Christine 16 elements mixed in. Maybe you should have called it Secretly 16 or Christine Cruel. Anyhow - great work dude!!
You know, I did this thing almost 8 years ago. And I have to admit that I never get tired of hearing stuff like this. It's both flattering and humbling. 'Cause you're throwing in Anthrax, Nirvana, Melvins, Skid Row, et al, right? Wow. Thank you very much. And I'm sorry I took so long to respond.

My dad showed this to me when I was about 10-12 years old when I was getting into kiss and this is the first time I heard this song and this is the version that plays in my head whenever I think of this song, the original is great but this version you did is by far my favorite. I’m 24 now and I’m still listening to your version all these years later.
Wow. I don’t even know what to say. This warms my heart, humbles me, and makes me believe I hit the target all at once. Of the many, many comments I’ve received, this is possibly my favorite. Thank you very much.
@@doublevirgo68 Well thank you for such an amazing take on a amazingly under appreciated KISS song, I live in a area where people love Rock n roll and KISS is one of the most played bands on the radio and whatnot and my knowledge of KISS gets tested every once in a while because I’m “young” but I’ve deep dove into this band more than anyone in this little area I live in. I love this band they’ll forever be my favorite. I again just wanted to say this is my favorite version of this song,Thank you for replying to me too that’s so awesome have a happy new year my man! Wow. Thank you very much sir. That is a very nice thing to say. And honestly, I've thought the same thing. Not about a KISS reward (well...) but about their reaction. I figured in 6-9 months it would eventually trickle back to them. But ten days is pure insanity. Gotta love these internets.
SO great! It comes across my feed (which I listen to in the background) and I have to immediately tune over to the video to see it again !Love it. I always wonder if Gene has seen or heard it and what his reaction would be. I think he'd love it too. Would love to see more Double Virgo.
From what I’ve been told (twice), Gene has seen it, and he did like it. No cease and desist at least! You taking the time to leave a comment like this really makes me happy. And after all these years, even! Thanks!
i revisit this vid every year or so and get fixated on it just like i did the first time I heard it. Without getting to silly about a KISS song from the 80s, it just seems to more effortlessly capture that KISS essence, sonically than KISS could themselves, at that particular time.. Kudos, DoubleVirgo.
That wipes the floor with the original. If only KISS had stuck to what they do best, and didn't get sucked into the 1980's 'pop metal' scene, Asylum might have been brilliant if it was anything like this!!! Stunning job dude!
This just NEVER gets old... I absolutely LOVE it, and I would say that if even if you weren't my brotha... There is not one little piece of this that isn't above par... from the recording of the track, to the editing of the video... Just killer !!
Pete, thats awesome! Just told Jon that story. :-) Hope to see you soon. And amazing video... I've really watched it multiple times. I'm an early years KISS fan... although... I cant resist "I Was Made For Loving You" :-) Take Care!
Aw, thanks Eric's mom! To all: Eric was the art director on the Lydia book I was telling you about earlier (see 4:44). Two-man art staff he and me. He also used to sing in In Color, our Cheap Trick tribute. Very very well I might add. We did "Torpedo Girl" years ago and sagafoo wants to put it on the record. It's on the tracklist at least. That's a start. I've never actually met Eric's mom but if Eric himself is any evidence, she's a very good person. Thanks again!
Dude, that was great work.. I give you mad props brother.. that was great!!!!! wish more people would be as dedicated as you. KEEP IT UP!!! give us another...
Absolutely awesome indeed!!! Being a KISS fan for more than half of my life I gotta admit: I like this better than the original! Fantastic job, guys!!!
Brilliant ! You have done so well with this. The vocals, the cowbell, the acoustic guitar underneath the distortion, even the tone of the guitars is perfect. Fun clip too ! 10/10 for all of it !
Amazing... I wonder if you guys can make King of The Mountain sound like a song from Love Gun too!!!! hahaha great version!!! you really know KISS' stuff! cheers!
Unbelievable...the Simmons vocal is spot-on...and I love that bit where he peers up from under the keyboard. Sometimes these tribute bands (such as the excellent Journey tribute "Evolution") can make you remember why you got into the group in the first place!

Felicitaciones gran cover !!! Kiss on !
Kudos, DoubleVirgo.
apologies for the poor grammar (it's late right now, and i'm a bit out on the tiles), but the sentiment remains. Cheers!
That wipes the floor with the original. If only KISS had stuck to what they do best, and didn't get sucked into the 1980's 'pop metal' scene, Asylum might have been brilliant if it was anything like this!!! Stunning job dude!
LOVE IT ! More please. Genius. The video is funny and brilliantly KISS influenced.
Great job my friend ! This would sound right at home on Rock n Roll Over or Love Gun ! Fantastic !
This is my all-time favorite Kiss tribute music video! Nice job, doublevirgo68!
This just NEVER gets old... I absolutely LOVE it, and I would say that if even if you weren't my brotha...
There is not one little piece of this that isn't above par... from the recording of the track, to the editing of the video...
Just killer !!
Loved it 😊
very nice, guys
congratulations and never stop rockin'!
SOUNDS LIKE A '70'S KISS SONG, YOU GUYS FAKIN NAIL IT!!!
Thanks! I’ll tell the other guys (aka my split personalities)!
@@doublevirgo68 You are one...but I'll keep the secret. Hahaha
The Clarences love & support DoubleVirgo! So cool! Great job!
Pete, thats awesome! Just told Jon that story. :-) Hope to see you soon. And amazing video... I've really watched it multiple times. I'm an early years KISS fan... although... I cant resist "I Was Made For Loving You" :-) Take Care!
again. need to post this. this is a true classic. hope to hear more...also the killer was cool. you are the best man. Many thanks for this.
To hear that *I* saved *your* KISSlife leaves *me* speechless. Thank you very very much. That's pretty heavy.
This was realy a great tribute you did. Very well recorded and played.
Never stop rockin, man!
Absolutely awesome indeed!!! Being a KISS fan for more than half of my life I gotta admit: I like this better than the original! Fantastic job, guys!!!
Love this.
Brilliant ! You have done so well with this. The vocals, the cowbell, the acoustic guitar underneath the distortion, even the tone of the guitars is perfect. Fun clip too ! 10/10 for all of it !
Well Done !! Great underrated KISS track, and you killed it !!! Plus I'm biased as a Virgo ! Lol
Thank you very much! And I hope you had a nice recent birthday!
ROCK ON! THIS IS ARMY CAPTAIN LESTER SAYING KISS IS FOREVER! SO ROCK N'ROLL ALL NIGHT AND PARTY EVERY DAY! long live ROCK! props to ya!
Great job! I've always loved the groove of SC's verses, really nice spin on it and enjoyed the humorous approach
Amazing... I wonder if you guys can make King of The Mountain sound like a song from Love Gun too!!!! hahaha
great version!!! you really know KISS' stuff!
cheers!
Super talented!!!! Loved it! And I am sooooo hard to please lol!!!
Unbelievable...the Simmons vocal is spot-on...and I love that bit where he peers up from under the keyboard. Sometimes these tribute bands (such as the excellent Journey tribute "Evolution") can make you remember why you got into the group in the first place!
