  • Britney Spears’ public life hasn’t always been easy to watch over the last two decades, but one thing most can agree on is that she was often judged without knowing the entire story. Have you ever found yourself judging someone before hearing both sides?

Depends on the circumstances, but on occasion, unfortunately, yes. We as sentient entities can't help it. And anyone who says they don't is probably bending the truth. However I will then take the time to discover more, with an open mind willing to change my opinion.

Adrienne and Loni need to apologize to Britney. I remember in one of the earlier episodes of The Real, when it was in its test-run season, Adrienne made a very insensitive comment of Britney, saying she met Britney while doing the X-Factor, and she said that Britney couldn't hold a conversation on her own at all, and had people in her team tell her what to say. Loni justified that by saying it is all karma for Britney having dated Kevin Federline, who was then engaged with actress Shar Jackson, who was already pregnant with Federline's first child. While these might have been true, the way they said it was highly inconsiderate and cold. Now after watching the whole documentary, it all makes sense. Britney has been in a serious conservatorship that watched her every move, behavior, and speech, because her team feared that she was unstable and was going to ruin her career by recreating another episode like 2007. This ultimately restrained her from being who she used to be. Her inner circle thought that sheltering an adult from the harsh realities and responsibilities of adulthood would stabilize her and rebuild her reputation. But reality is that did more harm than good in the long term. They caged a bird for too long, that now, it forgot how to fly. They left a human adult in a state of dormancy, in fact, worse, reversing her to a state of infancy, where now, all her interviews are just shallow conversations without much personality. Instead of allowing and trusting a young adult to continue making mistakes and learning from them, they medicated her to the point of erasing her personality. They stripped her of her own responsibilities of handling her own finances and her own voice to say what she wants in interviews. This is all truly is sad. I hope Adrienne could've been more sensitive about that encounter with Britney, considering it was very obvious that Britney went through a very traumatic public meltdown just couple years ago. Saying that she is unable to hold a conversation of her own, belittles her intelligence and paints an image that she is like a baby adult who needs her mommy or daddy in order to speak, because she cannot formulate opinions of her own. And Loni's joke was highly inappropriate. Not funny at all. A young girl in her 20s doesn't have everything in her life figured out. What if she did cheat or was a homewrecker? Maybe she didn't know any better. Maybe she didn't have the best upbringing and exemplary people in her life to teach her what is right and what is wrong. They can't expect a young adult to know everything in life.

@@Churros1616 It's not a matter of truth. I believe what Adrienne said (not so much Loni though). The problem lies in the way they said it. Like Tamera always says, "It is not what you say. It is how you say it." Loni and Adrienne expressed their opinion of Britney in such an insensitive and condescending tone, almost as to question Britney's intelligence. And that revelation drew laughter from the audience. It is not a subject to make fun off, especially for those suffering mental illness. What they did was potentially hurtful, and could've instigated much pain and suicidal thoughts to some victims who already have very low self-esteem. I felt so bad for Britney, and hoped she didn't watch that. It is sickening how all these years, people still make fun of her. What astounds me is how Britney never disses back to other celebrities. She always takes the high road by keeping silent. Most celebrities who know her have only good things to say of her. She has always been very sweet, polite, kind and humble, that many celebrities who know her sympathize for the unfair and shitty treatment she gets from the media. I am glad Tamera and Tamar stepped in to defend Britney.

Nothing is being "revealed" here - all of this played out in the media for the public to see. The issue isn't that any of this is new information, the issue is that at that time, our society was still so backwards on issues like mental health and mysogny, etc that we tolerated such awful behavior in a way that we wouldn't today.

I'm a man ladies, so we watch as well. I don't follow any celebrities personal lives. But saying that. The only Britney CD I had was her first one. I watched her on Mickey Mouse club prior to that and thought she was the cutest girl I ever saw. But I am more of a country music fan and kind of lost touch so to speak. I was aware she had some trouble and a stint in recovery, and her dad got TEMPORARY control of her life. I just saw a little thing about the documentary, did a quick google out of curiosity. He got conservatorship in 2008!
Kind of blown away. I don't understand how after over 80 years of courts dealing with parents and child performers conflicts, theft of money, and abuse. the well being of child actors is still left in the hands of a parent.
The John Leslie 'Coogan' law was established in 1939, and while being well meaning is a joke. It wasn't adequately revised until December 7, 2019 it now finally states that money earned and accumulated under the code remains the sole legal property of the minor child. So it gives the child a little more power in the courts to recover stolen funds, but still stipulates the studio / employer only sets aside a ridiculous 15% of the child actor's gross earnings in a Coogan Trust Account, so the parent still has access / control of 85%. Private jet to vegans anyone?
No parent / guardian should ever have any control over a preforming child's assets, well being, or income. And should never be allowed to be a manager, or agent.
The law should be, if you want your child to be a professional you need to hire managers, lawyers, agents, and the parent is allowed to only be a glorified chauffeur and guardian on set. And aside from an allowance 100% of the child's earnings should be shunted into a trust until they are 21, with no access granted to a parent or guardian. One of two parents needs to continue to work to support the family, if only one parent they can be paid a reasonable salary as an employee to be on set and drive them around. Then if the child desires ounce their brains are full developed and their decisions are based on logic instead of emotion at around 21, they can gift the parent a stipend for services rendered.
After that rant, I am shocked that this parent Jamie who was apparently a non entity in Britney's life was granted conservatorship at all. From the start it should have been a law firm with no greedy relatives involved. And while I didn't pay much attention after hearing about it in 2008, I am equally shocked it has been this long legal struggle since. Are judges so unbelievably clueless they think any relative can be impartial, and not be affected by the enormous amounts of money in these cases? How many child stars, (which is still the case these days), have to sue their parents to try and recover their earnings before the judges and law makers wake up and totally block parents from any professional or legal involvement.
We might have a lot less child performers, but at least the ones who show up for auditions will be there because the parent wants them to have their dream, instead of just a means to line the parents pockets.
I cite one current star, Milly Bobby Brown, who is currently supporting her family, with two healthy presents not working. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the arrangement, or they are stealing her earnings. But the universal excuse is the parent gave up this or that so their child could peruse their dream. If Millie was a child working in a sweat shop factory, paying the rent and buying food, while her parents sat back managing her daily schedule they would be arrested.

I'm probably in the minority in saying this, but I'm going to say it anyway (this is The Real, right?). Why is no one blaming the public? MILLIONS of people watched that interview -- where was the outcry then? MILLIONS of people bought the gossip magazines with her on the cover, hoping to find out some juicy tidbit. MILLIONS of people to this day click on online articles, blog posts, Twitter links, and the like trying to find out about Britney's personal business. These people put her on a pedestal, then get upset when she falls off of it as if this is the first (or second, or hundredth) time that his sort of thing has happened. Let's not point fingers at Daine Sawyer, TMZ, and the media when the public feeds them. When you consume the media that built her up, you also help pay the paparazzi that camp out in front of her home, the interviewers asking her questions that the public wants to be answered (people wouldn't have tuned in if they didn't want to see), and the talk show talking heads (like these ladies) that profit off of her as a hot topic. Turn that finger around and point it at yourself, because the public feeds the media machine.

    • @dchristain
      @dchristain 3 года назад

Exactly!! Justin, Britney, Swift, Keisha Cole, Beyoncé, and the alike should be able to make heartbreak songs/albums if they choose. You the interviewer can ask about the songs meaning. Actually do your research on the artist, not just focus on what the lowest hanging fruit is for clicks. Both Toxic and Cry Me a River were not the best videos to be made, but the public are that all up. So yeah, who’s fault is that? I question how this will move forward with music and the accompanying visuals. Fandom, sometimes, needs to chill with thinking that drama sells better. It’s all interesting.

This is a typical case of “THEY need to apologize to her, SOCIETY is mean”, instead of taking accountability. Adrienne herself said horrible things about Britney in the show. She was judging a woman, when the fans were trying to tell everyone she was in control of no part of her life, and yes, even her talking to people in the industry is forbidden by her dad. I was expecting apologies from Adrienne (and the other ladies who let it happen).

I just saw a few minutes of the interview with Diane Swayer, she totally shamed Britney and the guilt she must have felt, look at Britney's face, shame on you Diane. I totally agree that an apology from her should happen literally. Totally ridiculous. Should not be a journalist at all.

society is to blame by putting her down period! not realizing it that she actually had her childhood taken by pushing her to be an adult that early age of her life that time..that was insane ! then following the breakup she needs to know that there is still love among us out there that willing for her to be OK .. god bless Britney

God bless Brittney Spears. I'm glad she's made it this far...let's all pray for her. It's sad when people stop seeing you as a human and see you as a commodity. 😔 Sigh 😔

UGH! I remember years ago Adrienne talked about working with Britney and how she had an ear piece and had to repeat whatever they told her! She tried putting Britney in a bad light and someone cut her off and was like I love Britney!
WHY didn’t you mention this inside knowledge Adrienne? You know more now about the sad reality of it! Annoying

It pisses me off that now the media is all of the sudden are on Britney’s side. I find it hard to believe that they weren’t aware of Britney’s troubles, more like they ignored her and looked the other way. They’re all hypocrites.

Her family leeching off her, the media, Justin Timberlake, paparazzi, her team, Sam Lufti, Kevin Federline, Britney herself (to some extent) even the public and us fans, we ALL share the blame to different degrees and different reasons, it would have been great for Britney to take a 2 or 3 years break away from everything after the 2nd or 3rd album, live and experience life as a "normal" young woman surrounded by the right people with no ulterior motive and reevaluate what she wants, what she aspires to... looking back she released a project, was promoting and toured NON STOP for the first 7-8 years of her career, in hindsight if you put everything she went through back to back, the pressure, the oversexualisation, the backlash, the bad reviews and bad press, the criticism, the people in her ear etc... a mental breakdown was bound to happen.

To be honest, I expect more of Diane Sawyer. Years in the business, a woman, a public figure. Come on, this was a cash out interview she didn’t care about Britney, she cared about her paycheck.

Impressive ladies. Your comments were mature and spot on. Diane's questions were accusatorial. Diane did Not ask from Brittany's side she was shaming, accusing Brittany. I feel bad for Brittany, I wish there is something O could do.
