This Iron Maiden song is about a British arctic exploration trip by two ships in 1845, referred to the Franklin expedition to find a passage thru the Northwest passage. Europe was trying to find a shorter path to Asia than going South and then east around Africa for trade.
Unfortunately the ships were lost to the elements and froze and broke up. The entire crew past away. In the mid 1980's they found some graves they believe were some of the sailors frozen in shallow graves and preserved by the ice. Great song in honor of a tragic British event. Up the Irons!!

If memory serves me correctly, the song is based on the memoirs of Arctic explorers , but I could be mistaken

Back to Maiden. I'm pretty sure this is not a live recording but the studio version. Funny thing because Maiden would hate it. ;) They don't like playing with playback.
