  • I purchased these kits about 6 months ago and have been wanting to build them. I don't think I've built an aircraft since the start of the year. These are the predecessors to the B-2 Stealth "Spirit" Bomber. I don't normally build more than one model at a time, but for all intents and purposes, these are identical kits. Except for the propellers and vertical stabilizers. Follow along as I assemble and finish these flying wings.

Looks like a fun project and I look forward to watching the progress, especially how you tackle the bare metal effect as I have never tried it myself.

Unfortunately, over the past several decades, I morphed into a model collector rather than a builder. I do intend to start building again in the very near future. I do have both of the "early" flying wings, as well as the B-2. I also had a B-1 kit, but I believe it got misplaced during one of my job relocation moves. Best of luck with your kit construction activities! I'm also interested in how you reproduce the bare metal effect. I understand the Alclad II version of their paints (I believe currently marketed under the AK brand) has received many good reviews from the modelling community. Cheers!

Yes, I’ve used Alclad II a few times over the years; it’s good stuff. The acquisition by AK has been more recent. But I know AK has/had their own line of “metal” paints as well. Stay tuned to find out what direction I take.

Both kits were a 1995 tooling.
