TJ's Modeling Bench
США
Добавлен 20 янв 2024
I've been a modeler since about the age of 7 (born in 1971) in various forms. Plastic models is where I started, but I've dabbled in several things (rockets, R/C airplanes, HO trains). Plastic models took a back seat to everything else for many years. R/C airplanes got too expensive and too weather dependent. But I still needed a creative outlet, and I had most of the requisite supplies/tools, so plastic came back to the forefront. I'm a USAF Veteran and my primary interest has always been airplanes. I had a forced career change when I was furloughed in 2020. Now I work as a distribution center driver for one of the large, nationally known auto parts suppliers. As a result, automobiles have taken on a new interest for me. I hope you'll join me as I build my models and maybe I can share some of my knowledge with you. But I'm no expert and I'm always learning something new myself. So please, subscribe to catch any new uploads, give it a "Like" if so inclined, comment, and share.
USACC Build Update #8 // Revell 1:25 Dodge Dart
I really want to make my door hinges look prototypical, and I think I'm on the right track, but I might also be overthinking it. And I've got too many projects going on at once!

I'm in deep! I've got too much going on at one time, meaning nothing gets a lot of attention! And as such, I don't have much to share this week on the channel. And this coming weekend I'll be in Spartanburg, SC for the SCMA "Hope It Don't Snow Show". Stay tuned for coverage of that.
Revell '68 Dodge Dart USACC Update #7\n#USACC

A little more scratch building had to be done for the modification I made to the rear suspension. And sometimes it's one step forward, two steps back until I figure out what I'm really doing. But that's what modeling is all about. It's part of the creative process.

The holidays, work, and nurturing a new relationship hasn't allowed me as much time in the shop lately as I've had in the past. As a result, very little got accomplished this week. But things DID get accomplished! We added a little lift in the 'rear end'.

USACC Update #4 // And the Ugly Christmas Car? (Response to Hobbydude007)
Просмотров 901Месяц назад
I finished wiring the engine and I posted some photos on the "Luca Cee's Model Car Hobby Headquarters" Facebook page. Holy Cow! Over 1,000 reactions to that post! Most of them inquiring about my plug wires! I also decided to scratch build my own steering column; the kit one just didn't impress me. And, I filled the original rectangular speakers on the package shelf and replaced them with 6x9 Ov...
Weekly Update USACC #3 // Flying Wings #6

Another week of very little actual work accomplished at the modeling bench. This time of year is not one of my favorites; early sunsets, cold temps, holiday commitments, etc. It all saps my motivation a little. The flying wings are finally get gloss black base paint in preparation for the Alclad II Metal paints after receiving my new airbrush compressor. And the '68 Dart USACC build has gotten ...
USACC Build Update #2

I had to set the flying wings aside after my airbrush compressor died. That gave me an opportunity to get back to work on the 68 Dart. I'm trying some new-to-me things on this build, and hoping I can produce a show worthy product in the end. We'll see. Anyway, here's the progress so far. I have shop cards! These kits have been a motivation killer! I knew going in that there was going to be a lot of work to do, but I don't think I mentally prepared myself for the task at hand. So progress has been slow. But hey, even slow progress is progress. But I really want to get these done so I can get back to my USACC build! tjrohyans@comcast.net

Argh! I've got some Grand Canyon size gaps on the Leading Edges! I use sheet styrene and Vallejo Plastic Putty to fill them. I had hoped to have both aircraft in primer by now, but I didn't get as much work done on them this past week as I should have. But, you can't rush these things and expect good results.

Things are starting to come together! The major components of the "wing" are assembled, and I'm getting closer to paint. But it's a slow process.

Here's photo slideshow coverage of the 2024 Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts (ACME) Southern Nationals in Cartersville, GA. It was my first time going, and it was a great event. I finally got to meet several of the Content Creators I follow and admire. As well as getting to see some incredible models up close with my own eyes. I need to up my game if I'm ever going to be considered a serious model...

The larger the airplane you're going to model, the smaller the scale you'll be working in, typically. I usually model aircraft in 1:48 scale, but these would be massive at that scale. 1:72 scale has tiny details. Unfortunately most of the interior detail won't be visible, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to do my due diligence in painting it anyway. Sure as I don't, someone will notice.

Thank you for being so open abut your struggles and for your service. Beautiful bike! For music....I love the 80's,oldies, rockabilly, blues, metal....I did find a guy named Ren that has blown me away. Check out Ren Hi Ren or Ren and Chinchilla Chalk Outlines. It's a rabbit hole of music that I think you'll like.
Thank you so much for yout service. Hang in there TJ. Love the channel.
@@larryblanchet2832 Thank you Larry. It was an honor to serve.
I've never seen those RC type hinges before - those look like a great idea. I might try those on something one day 👍
Great update! I can’t do multiple builds at the same time. One and done lol.
Nicely engineered door hinges. Thanks for sharing.
nice update. maybe a tip about using the molotow chrome pens. The tips are usually to big anyway so I tap it down and get the chrome "flooded" towards the tip, then use a fine point paint brush, dip it into the tip of the pen, then apply it to the part. clean the brush with Isopropyl alchohol. as for the hinges, here is a door hinge video with door edges opening inward, not outward. It looks like the "hoop' and hinge part is on the door where as if it's the other way around the door edge opens outward. ruclips.net/video/4kD_WAZPQY4/видео.htmlsi=fzc1cncQVRZlqdl_ . hope that helps. car is looking good
Good tip about using a paint brush with the Molotow. I’ve seen that video. Thanks for tuning in. 👍🏻
Looks good sir
I had a great time doing the 10 questions with you guys! Keep at it, you'll get there!
Great update
Looking really good TJ, 😎👍
Those door hinges are pretty cool.
Nice update 👍🏿
Looks great TJ!!!
Cool idea with your grandson TJ! 😎👍
AWESOME work!
@@kellydcoons Thank you my friend.
Okay, you'll have my attention when you start that Scout... Who are we kidding, you've had my attention before!
Just found your channel!! I am way slow. Amazing how many channels you can miss out on in the community. Anyways. Awesome work!! Coming along really nicely.
@@kyledehartsscaleworks Thanks Brother! Yeah, I don’t have enough hours in a day to watch everything I’d like to.
@ it’s impossible! And you’re welcome!
Trivia In 1968, Mr Norm put the 383 in the Dart. The factory followed suit in '69, so Mr Norm stuffed in the 440. 😊 Looks like I've found the engine for my GTX build.
Excellent build. I'm following. Die hard Dart fan for 50 plus years and have owned several. One request: can you list tools , parts and such? Perhaps some links? 😊
@@kurtbergman4491 Tools and parts for the Dart, or are you speaking about the videos I’ll be making for my grandson?
@TJsModelBench-jb4xt items in the video. I found a link to MCV. Awesome site. Thank you 😊
Love the idea you have for working with your grandson! great plan!! and don't worry about the videos being for beginners. I'm sure they will end up helping loads of beginning modelers!
@@BGsModelWorkshop Thanks BG!
Nice update TJ. Maybe try to upload a video to shared storage like OneDrive and then share it with your grandson? Or even put them on a DVD and mail them to him? If you're trying RUclips maybe break them in half and upload? Good luck with it! Long distance family/buddy build sounds very cool!
@@timcarson8146 Uploading them to RUclips isn’t the problem. Getting them into my video editor is.
@@TJsModelBench-jb4xt Ahhh...I am not familiar with CapCut. Not sure if you use Windows, but I use Clipchamp (free with the OS) and have not had an issue uploading larger videos. Either way, good luck man.
Thanks for the update.
Great update TJ! Maybe I can catch a couple of shows this year. Have fun with the project with your grandson!
Sounds like a great idea for your grandson ❤
Have fun at the show TJ, 😎👍
Hey TJ, won’t be at hope it don’t snow show, rd 40 is closed and it’s a long way around to get there. I will catch up sometime.
@@harveykeeler2661 Bummer. 🙁 Make good use of your time and I’ll see at another show this year.
Cool video sir
Terry with STS DECALS just had a hip replacement in last few days, so his wife is having to do both their jobs, so they were asking for everyone's patience, just letting you know brother

Thank you for sharing 👍🏿
Nicely done Turned out awesome Those were my heydays White Gabriel Hijacker air shocks Yellow Monroe Max airs Those were the two I remember Great update Keep em commin ✌️
That was a very helpful video on scratch building shocks. Now as far your relationship. I am 65 and have been married 42 years. I hope she doesn't watch you channel because you might be getting more time with your mistress now and less time nurturing new relationship. LOL. Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Shocks came out good,nice work.
Ironically I’m building the first car that I owned, 1959 Chevy Impala Convertible. I paid $250 for it in 1968.
Sweet! My parents had an early 70s Malibu. Baby$h1t Brown with a Tan Vinyl top and interior. 😝
Nice job. Just found you and subbed you. Nice detail work. 👌
@@projecto6305 Thank you!
The mystery item is indeed the fuel tank. I had a D 50 back in the day - solid little mini truck… I swapped the stock carb with a Weber and that puppy sang for a four banger. If I remember the kit correctly the drivetrain was equipped with an automatic transmission ? Manual was the way to go in a 1:1!
@@Tribby3Adventures I’m totally a fan of manual transmission, especially in a sports car. When I was in High School, Dad had a VW (Gen 3) van that was manual. I LOVED driving that van! Thanks for tuning in. 👍🏻
Nice kit! I’ll be following along. 🙌🏼
Belated Merry Christmas and thanks for the shout out TJ! Happy New Year my friend! That's the 70 1/2 split bumper Camaro...a painful build but I love those Camaros. :) Very cool calendar. I might go by O'Reilly and see if I can grab one. Dart looks good. I flocked the interior of mine but honestly you cannot see it. But I used Future Floor polish on the dash and package shelf to simulate vinyl. :)
Rear end or front end axle. Transfer case is on a 4x4 to switch into and out of 4 wheel drive.
Brilliant. I might have to try that. I saw the hinged trunk lid on another channel, but haven't been brave enough to try it yet.
@@TXGRunner It’s my first attempt also. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. ~ Cory
Happy New Year TJ, looks like your pretty busy.
