  • Zach has a conversation with Shane Simpson about how tactics might change while hunting different birds in different public land areas.
    Topics Include:
    -Aggressive Calling
-Hunting from heavily used access roads
-Adjusting tactics according to how you want to hunt and how turkeys are behaving
-What to do when you find "random" turkey sign

Kee kees, and kee kee runs work well for engaging hens in the spring that aren't responding to you aggressively. I know you guys are all into deer hunting in the fall, but fall turkey hunting will teach you so much about calling turkeys (not gobblers, turkeys) it will blow your mind. Really helps you as a spring hunter to hunt in the fall.

Setting up on a big late fall/winter roost is a great way to watch and listen how turkeys interact with each other with pecking order based calling. You can see how they challenge and respond to each other, and see just how much they actually do call as Shane said. Most years during the last week or two of the WI season I'll kill a gobbler that has no interest in hen calls, but will come in gobbling to gobbler yelps. They are starting to reform summer bachelor groups often during that last week and he was looking for other gobblers.

I like to hear what other turkey hunters are thinking while hunting. Good stuff fellas. I hunted RG. He was sneaky. He barely got by us by the skin of his teeth. Yea we killed a few gobblers after that.
