Don't be like me and screw your usb board in backwards. The usb ports line up either way.

If you’ve already stuck a heat sink on to your DE10 Nano, what’s the best way of removing it? Let the heat generated from running it soften the glue used on the tape and then carefully lever something between the chip and heatsink and try to pop it off?

    • @MiSTerAddons

I recommend a bit of isopropyl alcohol, and something soft plastic like a plastic tooth pick to separate the two with low pressure. You're the best :)

@@MiSTerAddons this was my concern too. Looks like I’m going to need quite a lot of force, and I’d be worried some people are going to pull off the solder joints trying without more explicit instructions.

Suggestion - tell users up front in the video to detach the fan from the IO board. Conceptually I didn't realize why it would become an issue until I was mostly through assembling. I know that you lay the parts out and exhibit the board without the fan on it, but that wasn't something I appreciated until too late.

I received my package of one fully assembled unit in the aluminum case and everything I needed (minus the DE10 Nano board I already had) to assemble a second one. They are both GREAT looking. During the assembly process, the only thing I would do differently is change the location of the nylon spacer washers. If installed on the other side of the standoff they are secured by the screws. I had a hard time keeping the nylon washers in place and spent longer looking for one that fell out than assembling the entire case. To move the spacer to the other side of the standoff may require it to be thin metal so the pressure doesn't flatten it out too much. It would certainly make for an easier assembly. So far I have only tested the one I assembled but It's working 100% as it should. The new aluminum case really gives the assembled system a professional look and I highly recommend this new case.

Awesome work, I'm looking to buy my own when they're back in stock!
Question: How do you personally handle turning the MiSTer on and off? I'm not a fan of having to handle an external switch attached to the power cord, let alone plugging/unplugging the cord. It'd be awesome if we could have a switch built into the case, but I understand that that would be difficult with such a compact device.

What is the benefit of removing the plastic black piece on the USB hub connector, and cutting the connectors a little?
When assembling mine recently, I didn't see the need to have to do that, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't absolutely needed to do that or not. 👍

So I ran into an issue with the case assembly. The USB board, simply would not fit. I noticed this video had the blue usb hub board, and the one I received was black and the usb ports on one side were not flush like the other side / the one in the video. I thought maybe a different revision as it looked like it had 4 solder/test points. After confirming with misteraddons, it was determined this "rail" should have been removed during manufacturing and safe to remove. Thanks for being there for support on a Sunday night!
It was easily done with needle nose pliers and carefully bend a little back and forth, working your way up and down the rail repeating till snaps off. I sent pictures cause I can't post in comments here like I thought I could. But man this is a NICE and sleek looking case!!
I wish I wasn't just now finding out about the whole Mister project. I've been missing out for a few years!

The nicest MiSTer case I’ve seen, once Christmas is over I plan on getting one.
I love that you’re listening to feedback and introducing improvements :-) A quick bodge for the button popping out when upside down - I’d try zip ties around the button to give them less room to slide. Maybe someone will design a 3D print part to slide over the buttons to do the same thing?
