      @ I think the p2 at 1500 to your door is the crossover point. It’s good enough* performance for most people and that’s the cost of something like a mid tier AR. Hopefully there’s some decent thermals in that price range in that 2-3 year span as well.

      If the performance can go up only 10% (both sensitivity and latency) battery life doubles, and if we get fusion with IR, then analog night vision will be obsolete! This will also mean that when the PLA starts distributing that tech to its soldiers, they will outclass US soldiers in night vision. (Until the US follows suit.)

    With the OLED screen it should be entirely possible to mimic the "depth" of analog since each individual pixel has independent brightness control from the board. running a psuedo-HDR mode would likely alleviate the issue. However, its almost certain that the chip in the G14SE isn't quite up to snuff to run that kind of software on the fly, at least not anywhere near 100fps. I also don't know how they would fit more controls for the contrast, NITS floor/ceiling ect. without impeding the great form factor of the device. battery impact would likely be negligible with the savings from dimmed/disabled pixels.
    with my ramblings out of the way, thanks for the video!

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад

      It’s definitely possible, but I think that’s going to take a bit. I enjoy the tang and technical decision tho! More info is never a bad thing. I’m glad you liked the video thank you!

    • @DjAlonDevil
      @DjAlonDevil 20 дней назад

      An HDR mode increases latency because it requires more processing. Best thing to hope for is a sensor that comes with more dynamic range. the G14P2 has a larger sensor and a little better dynamic range. This is achievable by increasing the sensor size which in turn increases pixel size giving you extra dynamic range performance but keeping the same technology.

  • @mikes1172
    @mikes1172 Месяц назад +42

    Here's my 2 cents, it shouldn't cost more than $800 tops. If companies like AGM/Pulsar and others can slam together rifle scopes that has 100x more features and cost $800-$1,000 there is no reason why this single function device can't cost $800 or less. Total build cost likely doesn't exceed $250.00 for that thing, way too much profit being made, too many greedy hands in the mix.

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад +7

      From my understanding, AGM/Pulsar units perform not nearly as well as this and they have insanely high lag. I have talked to people that have direct contact with ADNV engineers and it seems the $1300 price tag is semi justified. The cmos sensors in these are completely proprietary.

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад +5

      I am not saying that 1300 is a good price, I’m just saying the price makes sense all things considered

    • @DjAlonDevil
      @DjAlonDevil 20 дней назад +3

      You're delusional. AGM or Pulsar make trash digital night vision devices that rely on IR for performance. I wouldn't even use their analog options for that matter. The better the performance the higher the cost. Look at the X27 which competes with Filmless L3 tubes but costs 25,000$.

    Great video!! I just sold your “Bushnell XX-2015” XD-4 Photonis tubes Brother/Sister that I had for about 2 years and used and actually loved but needed the money! It was an excellent tube! You did a fantastic job on making this video man, I have got to say that you are very insightful in the specifics you mention, and the way you are filming them and mentioning all the details is very appreciated !! All in all bravo and well done sir!! And that digital device does seem to be promising, the one thing I have noticed that is my personal main issue with a digital device especially something that you’re going to be moving around it night in the dark with versus a monocular or binocular night vision device with a traditional analog tube, is that for me personally …. maybe it’s just me tripping out, but when I am looking through an analog Monocular ( even a monocular, which shouldn’t seem this way so maybe I am trippin?$) Is that along with the very disorienting lag time that exists between your movements and the image you see, is the flatness of the screen… like when I am looking through my *(Badly Blemmed/ somewhat damaged, I am amazed it works at all tbh)Omni seven tube. I literally feel even though it’s just an ocular as if I have some sense of depth through it somehow…. Which is kind of crazy because I do realize it for you to have depth perception in reality, both eyes are required… However I must say that with a real analog tube ( even a cheapo Russian Gen 1 tube!) I get a sense of depth, and reality that I don’t feel or experience when I am looking through a digital device, which seems like what it is… a tiny little flat screen TV right dead infront of your eyeball with a low light camera stuck on the front of it and some sort of 940nm IR illuminator ( usually)! I wonder if anyone else who has used both in monocukar form gets at least a “sense” of depth from the tube( regardless of it being a mono) as opposed to digital? I have even driven a car with all the running lights and headlights out with a helmet mounted Mono going about 20-35 mph on a windy little mountain road here in Weatern NC in the mountains, and while that wasn’t the best idea…. Think I my about attempting the same thing while wearing a digital Mono gives me a panic attack almost lol!!!
    Anyways, once again, fantastic video and presentation!! And I applaud your work ethic and attention to detail and thoroughness with your reviews and the quality of the Videos you shot, and the fact you told those of us who have never seen the fact that there are flashing IR Illuminators on the front of every single smart phone there is for some reason….( NV owners/users will know exactly what I am talking about, there’s only one reason they include an “Undisclosed” battery-friendly flashing IR illuminator on the front of every single smart phone that exists, and that’s seeing your pretty face looking at the screen as you do whatever got THE WRONG kind of ATTENTION!! lol… if ya get my drift) anyways … sorry I just wanted to mention that fact since most folks don’t realize thier phone is totally able and probably taking photos and videos of thier face in the pitch dark without them knowing it. lol.. anyways. You rock my dude! keep up the great and above and beyond work my friend! I will share this video with friends! I wish you the best young man!
    If I was your dad I would feel extremly proud of you, not to be weird! But you seem like a really good dude and you work hard and smartly as well. And your doing a good thing and it makes me feel better about the messed up world we live in that there are younger men that still know how to work hard and feel like doing thier best at what they do is important and necessary! Well done sir,and I wish you success and a bright bright future!!!

      I absolutely love comments like this! Thank you so much for your kind words and support it truly means so much. The world has definitely gotten pretty messed up in the last few years but I think there is nothing better to do than provide a good work ethic, love and care about everyone and provide important information to the masses.
      Those XX2015 tubes are fantastic for the price! It’s always to cool to hear about other people’s xx2015 tubes as they seem to appear from no where. I’m gearing up to sell mine in just a bit to fund the purchase of my OMNI8 PVS14. Dollar to performance though, it’s going to be hard to beat it haha. I just want some more SNR and gain.
      As for depth perception, I agree with you and have experienced very similar effects. With clean glass and a bit of moon, with my analog monoculars I will get a sense of depth. While this actually did occur occasionally with the ADNV device, that occurred far less often than analog devices. As for lag, the G14SE has pretty much non existent lag. Less than 10 m/s is insane, that’s 1/100 of a second and in my experience not really noticeable. I did do a bit of driving with the ADNV, performance and lag wise it felt fine, but the lens flair from the dash made it dangerous and I would never do it on a public road or on public land.
      Once again i truly appreciate your comment and nothing about that was weird at all. I love knowing that my attention to detail was sufficient and I helped someone out.
      Thank you!

    • @MillionFoul
      @MillionFoul Месяц назад

      @@cxsey8587 There are other aspects to performance. Swapping a battery every hour or two means carrying more batteries, which really start to offset your weight advantage in the very negative. You can carry three CR123s and expect to run your analog tube eight hours a night for two weeks or so, but for the same time period a digital device will probably need upwards of fifty batteries. That's over two pounds of batteries to lug around before you power any other devices you need, like optics, LAMs, thermals, and radios.
      I don't see the need to update firmware on an analog device ever, though if your priority is to record from your NV device rather than see through it I'd definitely agree. Overall, I think digital devices will be very impressive in a decade or so, and the ability to see color will be very nice. Right now, and at that price point? Pretty iffy unless you really just want a nighttime gopro to play with.

    do you still get that bezel less feel. that's one thing that i've never heard people talk about when comparing digital to analog but was so evident when I finally tried a pvs14. the nvg30 feels like i have that eye closed but I can see a screen, kinda feels like playing a videogame, the pvs14 felt like it was just my normal vision except somewhere in my normal vision there was a floating ring that's green and way brighter. does this also have that feel where it just looks like a ring or square in your normal vision or does this still feel like you're trading your normal vision for a screen?

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад +2

      It’s kind of a mix of both. It’s the best “feeling” digital system I have used, but it’s still doesn’t quite feel like that magical floating green circle of vision that analogs have.
      You can get that mixed monocular depth perception if you know what I’m talking about , but still does not feel as fluid and instantaneous as analog. I hope that answers your question, if it doesn’t I can try to re word it to make more sense.

    • @JPFB-yp6pw
      @JPFB-yp6pw Месяц назад +1

      @ yeah i think it does! I have always heard about how difficult and how much of an adjustment nods are (when talking about analog), and I have a nvg30 and I’d agreed so far, the delay, the noise, the screen etc is an adjustment for sure. But recently I tried on a pvs14 and all of that went out the window, maybe it’s cause I’m so used to the burden of the nvg30 that the pvs14 was exactly what you said “a magical floating green circle of vision”, just through magic part of my normal vision was now bright. Everything that was hard with the nvg30 become borderline a non issue with the pvs14.
      Did you feel like that same experience would be had going drom the nvg30 to this adnv? and how much of a gap between this and the pvs14 would you say there is?

    It's like that budget FLIR stuff, thermal on the cheap, but where you're shooting is where it was 18 seconds ago. :( Although for a price of nearly $2K if it isn't competitive ... yeah, just wow. You could build your own analog for that price, with an okay tube in it.

    • @extrudedshoots

      I heavily prefer analog, and yes at this price analog is an option. I will recommend analog over this device 100% of the time. I will say the lag is nearly un noticeable. At 15ms it’s incredible for digital.
      This is not yet a competitive option, but it’s a cool advancement in digital technology.
      And in response to your other comment, I have talked to chinese people that have had direct contact with the ADNV team, goodnight gear is buying these at around 1200-1300 shipped per unit. Profit margins are high, but not much more than the rest of the analog nightvision industry

    The content of the video was good. Informative, separate sections for actual use footage, objective facts, and subjective opinions.
    Notes: you can absolutely get all the same information across in half the time. You could edit this down from 38 minutes 19 at most, probably closer to 13-15 minutes.
    Voiceover is the obvious solution to the time problem. People don’t like 40 minute RUclips videos. 19 minutes, while long, a lot more people will click on and watch especially if they’re interested in buying the thing your video is about. Use the footage with text labels in-video that denote which device the foootage is from, but as the footage is playing use the audio from the second half of the video as a voiceover instead of just the audio of you breathing. That alone will cut the video in half.
    Also, any time you go back and splice in something “from the future” it’s literally always better to record it again in one take. The video is just you talking in a room, there’s absolutely no reason you couldn’t record it again. This is significantly easier because you don’t need to do it in one take when doing voiceover or at least cutting between you talking and first person/b-roll/action shots instead of having video of yourself for the whole time you’re talking as well.
    Which gets to my next point, the talking. You repeated yourself a lot, sometimes saying the same things 5 or 6 times. Write a script, with everything you want to say, make it more concise and less repetitive. Think of it like an essay, how you would structure it with an intro, then specs/stats and facts, your opinions, and then final thoughts.
    Anyway, I hope this helps and you take constructive criticism well, because the substantive content is actually good. Cheers

      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад

      I appreciate the feedback.
      funny enough, the original full version of this video was well over an hour. at some point ill do a complete voice over video with scripted opinions, but until this becomes my full time job I dont think I can do it as its very time consuming.
      In the future, I will definitely work towards more scripts and such. before i can do this full time, we may have to compromise with a scripted TLDR section on the opinions, and a seprate "b channel" upload with my rant.
      Thank you! I truly appreciate both the praise and criticism. I will work on it because i agree, I could make the opinions section better.

    The G14SE does nearly all of what a gen 2 nod can do, but the cost is too close. There's something called the Pareto Principle, the 80/20 rule. 80% of a result comes from 20% of the effort to achieve that result. With DNV, is there a device that provides 80% of what ANV can do, but at a cost that is closer to 20%? The NVG30 price is a bit more than 20% of a used gen 2 nod, so possibly that?

    uhhh here's the thing. Why buy that digital one for $1700 when you could just buy a used analog white phosphor for that much? I just saw a "budget build" on a full set up for $1700, all analog and very good. I get the NVG30, that's $500, less than half the price. what is the point of a digital one that is just as expensive? Is there something that makes this better or is just 'just as good' as stated in the vid? Because if it's just as good as analog, you could totally just buy an analog set up for that price lol. Look at DC's video on 'budget" NVG build they build a white phosphor gen III for $1500. P.s. what you said at the end is what makes RUclips great. Feedback. Well, from what I can see, changing to that sensor adds about $1700 to the cost of the A7 III, which probably has something to do with it, as well as the image processor on those cameras is quite powerful and still introduces a large amount of lag. Coincidentally, it sucks down power, getting about 90 minutes of recording time out of a 7.2v ~2300 mAh battery, and weighs almost 25 ounces without a lense. Obviously you can probably cut that down to 15 or so by removing most of the camera stuff, but that's still 3 ounces heavier than a PVS-14 and that really matters when it's hanging on your face. The only high framerate footage I've seen from these cameras is done in environments with enough light to autogate gen III tubes, and you get maximum sensitivity at 10 FPS which obviously you aren't moving and shooting at. The amount of light the sensor has to work with is proportional to the aperture of the lens, and these cameras are also usually equipped with huge apertures unsuitable for a helmet mounted night vision device.
      All in all, if you wanted to use the same sensor you'd probably end up with a huge, heavy device with exceedingly low framerate and response time that doesn't perform nearly as well as the camera version due to needing a smaller objective lens to be reasonable. There's a reason that movie cameras and gopros tend to be very different devices.

      FF sensors can't touch analog. I have a Canon R6 which is a match for the Sony A7s II / III, and a mid spec thin filmed gen 3 monocular. Those FF bodies are amazing with a bright moon, and I primarily use the R6 for 4k24 filming under moonlight with f/1.4 lenses. But they don't show nearly as much as gen 3 under clear sky starlight. They are also dead in the water in thick forest starlight conditions and indoors by window starlight, situations where my gen 3 is still going strong. Filming at 60 fps loses a stop of light, and for tactical use people really want 90-100 fps. Things would improve a little bit with a f/0.95 lens and a full spectrum conversion to see near IR, but that would only allow them to operate with less moonlight. They still wouldn't be tactically useful in darker conditions, or able to see at all in the worst conditions. I also have an Aurora and an Aurora Pro (night vision is an addiction) and these FF bodies are about at the level of the Aurora, one stop better if converted for full spectrum. When they have enough light they produce beautiful 4k video, but they just can't gain up when the light disappears.
      Beyond that there's no way to get the size down to an acceptable level with a FF sensor. You could lose the camera controls and mount the battery on the back of your helmet like the Opsin, but there's no shrinking the lens. Trying to helmet mount a FF f/1.4 lens with a 40° fov would destroy your neck, even worse with a faster lens.
      There's definitely something to the tech in the SiOnyx and ADNV devices. If the tech were equal a FF sensor would be 3-4 stops brighter than those smaller sensors, but it's only at roughly the level of the original Aurora but with higher resolution. I'm actually surprised at the G14SE because I thought SiOnyx had pushed sensor tech just about to the limit. Looks like there's more on the table, though I wonder if there's enough left without switching to SPAD to match high spec unfilmed gen 3.

      These are the type of threads in my comments that I love to see.
      I am not an experts in cameras at all, but I assume the reasons they don't use those sensors is input lag and FPS. both of those are crucial in effective NV use. A7S full spectrum cameras are amazing and I would love to get one for the channel, but once again they are expensive and buying a beater PVS14 would be cheaper to some extent.

    its a cool step for digital but you can get used analogs for the same price. its nice for sure but idk. guess its just harder for me because i have no real use aside from fun for nvg

      agreed. If you really want a new device, this is a great option, but personally, ill take an omni 8 all day. They are super small and cool though so thats a plus at least.

    $1300 (from china & 2-4 weeks of shipping is totally fine) means that these could end up like $800 in a few years even $300 in 5-6 years like how bambu 3d printers are so cheap but the best? Were gonna get mind blowing DNVG for a few hundred bucks, and another $300 to add the thermal. its gonna be so cool. just save ur money. but also buy some of these to help economies of scale!

    what about motion sickness due to weird FPS. I know people complain about that a lot with other digital NVGs. That is one of the biggest drawbacks for digital NV imo

      I didnt have a problem with it. the 100 fps sub 10 MS delay is incredible and very responsive. now it didnt feel quite as fluid as analog, but it was very very comfortable to run and move using/

    looks cool i really appreciate its rugged build quality and look but isnt the point of digital nightvision compared to analog is to be on a budget? cause of the build quality and camera quality the price makes sense but honestly thats why god gave us analog id take my 1700 and go get an analog but this is cool too

    • @extrudedshoots
      @extrudedshoots  Месяц назад

      Yes I agree, the point is to make it cheaper. Knowing how digital tech is made vs analog IITs, digital tech should get cheaper in the next few years while i really dont see the prices of new analog dropping for a while. if i had 1700 i would buy a OMNI7 PVS14, but its just cool that this tech is here and not at opsin prices
