What makes this song so good is the intro that is very similar to the chorus, but has the chord change on the third "can't buy me love" that then leads into the first verse--That is just a phenomenal change--those kind of changes separate the really great songwriters from the ordinary songwriters.
No, the Beatles didn't record with Tony Sheridan; _The Beat Brothers_ recorded with Tony Sheridan. It's a small factual difference, but The Beatles were not credited in that record. "Can't Buy Me Love" was the only time they recorded overseas under the name _"Beatles."_
Nicely done! Good photos, good sound bites. Your narrator mangled a few words, but you know what the professionals say: “There’s quality, and then there’s RUclips quality”.
What was the reason for taking off the backing vocals? I always love the charm of the anthology version with them. I always figured it was just to make it easier to perform live. Great video!
George Martin was completely on point. The Beatles constantly evolved their “Beatles sound” which is why he wanted to hold back Roll Over Beethoven and the delivery of Can’t Buy me Love raised the quality of their brand to the next level. The next palpable jump was A Ticket to Ride a year later.
I liked "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me", but their next three singles didn't appeal to me - and still don't. Then out came "Can't Buy Me Love" and the Beatles were well and truly re-instated, for me.
@@vincec727 Unless I'm mistaken: "From Me to You", "I Wanna Hold your Hand", "She Loves You". I speak, of course, of the Beatles British releases, regardless of any strange games the US labels were playing.
I've always thought Can't Buy Me Love is simply an (obvious) answer to Money (That's What I Want), and nowhere near as good. For my money Can't Buy Me Love lacks vibe. Speaking of Money (That's What I Want), Lennon's version is a rip-snorter, but I do also think the original version, recorded by Barrett Strong in 1959, takes the cake. Barrett Strong's version is far less aggressive than Lennon's and it's interesting to compare the two. Money (That's What I Want) was written by Berry Gordy, and was Motown's first hit record.
Ian MacDonald wrote in "Revolution in the Head" that "Money suited Lennon's persona and the group's live requirements so well that they featured it regularly between 1960 to 1964."
This song, IMHO, is one of the very few Paul songs that lack the Beatles magic....it is catchy, and performed well but it could be a song by any 60s group really.... way too cliche bluesy chord structure.
Yes, I hesitated to say because of being negative but as huge Beatles fan, I’ve never really been into this song. Just kind of boring melodically and structurally. Feels like a throwaway that got a lot of play.

One of their best songs
A great song and solo by George, those leftover twangy notes from the earlier take fit in perfectly.👍👍
One of My favorite song on the HARD Days Night Album.
Amazing song, very energetic.
Great information as always, thank you for your content.
Thank _you_ for watching!
Not their only recording outside London. They also recorded with Tony Sheridan in Germany.

@@BeatlesBible1 ok, fair enough.
They were already global stars just three singles in and it was onward and upward from there; very interesting little video - thanks for uploading.
Another nicely made video, Mr. Bible. Cheers!

Can't Buy Me Love is a brilliant tune.
Especially with the Beatles running in and out of a Police Station.
Exellent detail.Most absorbing

Are you using AI toward the end? It doesn't sound completely like Paul's voice.
No, it's all real audio. 👍
@@BeatlesBible1 okay thank you. It just didn't sound like him.
Tavistock NOT The Beatles- we've all been had
Still harping on that nonsense?

Trivia: first Beatles song with a Rickenbacker 12 string
Im not a big fan of that song. I always prefer Lennon's work over Paul's on that album.

@@michaeldunne338 Yes, no doubt Money would have ripped it up at any Beatles show! A great crowd number.
I agree it has no vibe great way to put it

That is precisely what's great about it. If it hadn't had the Beatles magic, it would never have made it to #1.
Boring 12 bar structure. Non very Beatles. More like an Elvis rip off.
Great song, very groovy. The Beatles could do anything. In fact, in their early days in Hamburg, they were doing a lot of this kind of stuff.
Thier weakest single, in my opinion!
Weak? It's a banger of a rockn' roll. Powerful vocals, great guitar solo. Great groove. Much bluesier than their previous poppy singles.

Never liked this song. I find it as weak. Very catchy, but that is its flaw.
