Clockwerk has to be one of the most underrated villains in gaming history. For a character designed for an E rated game he's got some surprisingly dark stories. Obsessed with destroying the Cooper clan to the point he replaced his body with machinery literally powered by hatred itself, murdering Sly's father and who knows who else in cold blood. Really it leaves questions...Why was Clockwerk so obsessed with destroying the Coopers? You never find out why beyond the shallow reason of wanting to be the master thief but there has to be a more significant reason why he would push himself to these extremes....
Jealousy is a *powerful* feeling, my friend. In reality or fiction. Sometimes that's literally all there needs to be for someone to do some really demented doings.

I would love to see in sly 5 that clockwerk’s hatred for the Cooper line was started in Egypt due to some tragedy, he hunts at this even as you make your way to his head, saying things like “Feet together”, and “Flowers”. What if on a heist, sly tutkamen accidentally killed clockwerks then love interest. This then drives him crazy with hate and vows to eradicate the coopers for ruining his life, then when his mortal body fails, believing he has nothing else to lose, replaces his own body with soulless machinery.

Kestrel 97 but Penelope still loves Bentley I think, so she would rather just stop him from meeting Sly rather than creating a villain to destroy Sly and his family.
He built his own Robotic parts using both his intellect, and using the parts he stole from the brilliant minds of his victims. He hates the Coopers because they are better than him at something. They are superior thieves. The Cooper bloodline never had to resort to stealing from the innocent or from the weak. Clockwerk by contrast was a coward and a inferior criminal who hurt those smaller than him for his own satisfaction. For that he hated the Coopers. He saw himself as the top of the food chain, the most powerful, most intelligent, and greater than all. But the Coopers proved him wrong. As for the flowers thing. I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it was simply him losing his sanity or being unable to control his thoughts completely as his body began to be destroyed. Maybe his robot brain is giving out and producing errors in speech. Or perhaps Clockwerk, despite all that he was, the cold heart of hate. Maybe he still had some humanity. Or a respectable pride he held onto. Although it could be a inside joke from the developers.

Seeing Clockwerk perched in the Ice Age during Sly 4, it's honestly chilling to think that Clockwerk's shadow has loomed over the Cooper lineage since prehistory. Ironically, the fact he's the only non-anthropomorphic animal in the series makes him so otherworldly and imposing.
Well, technically the Bears from Sly 2 and the Wolf from 3 are non-anthropomorphic, but they're just regular animals where as Clockwerk has human level intellegence.
I have always found that to be a stupid Sly 4 retcon. There has never been a caveman Cooper established till Sly 4 and what on Earth is Clockwerk doing already a robot in prehistoric times when that Cooper was just using his thieving to survive? Lmao
@@swiftchancellor159 Originally, the implication was that either a Cooper or the Coopers, in general, affected Clockwerk in such a way that the dude dedicated his eternal life to spiting them. But now, the implication is that Clockwerk got mad at a literal caveman and then immediately went to go turn himself into a robot in an era before electricity was invented and chose to be a prankster for this random caveman's every generation. LMAO It is such a small detail but it has a huge implication, and it makes Clockwerk look so stupid.
Archon95 - Original Japanese game had him voiced by Naomi Kusumi (Dudley; very akin to his English voice) HD version via re-recorded dialogue is instead Kunihiko Yasui (Iori Yagami).
Joonas Salminen "Revenge is the prime ingredient in the fountain of youth. I kept myself alive for hundreds of years with a steady diet of jealousy and hate, awaiting the day that i would finally eclipse your family's thieving reputation."
I remember it like was yesterday. I was playing Sly 4, screwing around in the third world when I just so happen to use the binoculars and look up at a waterfall. _I see this gargantuan mechanical owl just overseeing the land,_ I'm speechless. I had never played a single Sly Cooper game up until this point (I know sue me but I just loved Sly 4 and had a PS3 at the time lol), so I was so fucking confused. Then I do a quick search of early game playthroughs and see Clockwork as the final boss for the first game. It all made sense... I guess he was right, *"Perfection has no age..."*
And as you listen to the soundtrack that defined your childhood, recollection flashes in your mind. Every mission of Sly 1, the dreaded time trials, and patiently awaiting the next installment. It made you who you are. So you go fire up your old PS2 and pop in Sly Cooper. You hover over The Cold Heart of Hate and enter A Strange Reunion. Clockwerk rises up behind you and you turn to face him. Before he can even speak, you interject: "My intellect is refined. My experience is greater."
The Clockwerk fight, Panda King fight, Raleigh fight, Muggshot fight, Flaming Temple of Flame, Carmelita in the gas chamber, Muggshot's Boneyard Casino, Lair of the Beast, Raleigh's library, the music.... ahh, the awesome bits... Then there's the car races, the chicken whacking, Piranha Lake, Mz. Ruby's boss fight, The Van vs the Sludge Monsters, fighting crabs for treasure... the nightmarish flashbacks 😂
Then I guess R.L Stine must be here, on account he discovered some of the pages of the Thevious Racounous in his typewriter. Which eventually leads to a team up of Sly Cooper and the gang with R.L Stine, Zach, Hannah Fairchild, and the rest of the Goosebumps Allie's to help take down Slappy and his crew who have summoned Clockwerk evil spirit.
Clockwerk's theme is just so epic, it fits the battle perfectly, and is also amazing music! In the movie, I hope Ross Douglas (Original Voice actor of Clockwerk himself) comes back to voice that badass mechanical eagle-owl!
Correction Kevin Blackton voiced the character along with all male members of the fiendish five. Fandom or any wiki related stuffs aren't that reliable. They sometimes give false information and then corrects the error.
I have to say, that this is one of the greatest boss themes I've heard in all my years of gaming. This, will always be one of my faves, along with the boss themes of Primal Dialga, and Rhapthorne.
This is giving some serious flashbacks to those childhood days where Clockwerk legit scared the shit out of me. My most vivid memory is the intro to Sly 2 where we get re introduced to Clockwerk.

What made Clockwerk such a great villain, is that he was fueled by pure Hatred and Jealousy, he admitted it himself. He even went as far as to replace Every. Single. ***** And probably an equally-sized question, how was that thing made in the first place? In Sly 4, he makes a cameo appearance in levels...even in the stone age! That's even farther back from the Egyptian era, which was shown back in Sly 1 and...well, the point is, how? Just *how*, man?!
"Sly Cooper. You have escaped my gas chamber and destroyed my death ray...remarkable, you Coopers _always_ find a way to defeat me." "Always? Brings back memories. Had to sell my PS2, and I dont own a PS3 or PS Vita to play the games on, but I have played the first 3 games so many times I remember my experiences well. Clockwerk will always be my favorite Sly villain and video game villain in general. When I see the movie I hope they make ClockWerk as amazing and badass as he was in the first game. (Although my favorite Sly game will always be Honor Among Thieves)
Honestly, I think Sly 2 gave Clockwerk much more credibility then the first game. The first game only really mentioned Clockwerk in the last level of the game, while in Sly 2, Clockwerk is mentioned throughout the entire game. All of his mechanical parts was examined and was showed how deadly each of them are, and more time was given to explain Clockwerk's background story (even if it is not much), which helps make Clockwerk a more menacing, and more powerful villain.
Victory: Defeat Clockwerk with Sly & Carmelita and get the Death Ray Firing Switch before Player Turn ends in Round 20 Guard the nukes from Robo-Falcons Defeat: 1). Sly & Carmelita are defeated 2). Someone other than Sly & Carmelita defeats Clockwerk 3). Unable to get the Death Ray Firing Switch before conditions are met 4). A Robo-Falcon reaches a nuke
To this day, this battle is one of those short but "Let's do it again for the OST" kinds of bossfights for me. Sly Cooper games were so good (1-3 at least. Those are ones I played as kid... Good old times)
In all my years of gaming, I can't believe I foolishly cast aside the PS2 and PS3 in favor of just the Xbox. It has it's share of great games, but the PlayStation was home to even more! Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, MGS4, and last but certainly not least, Sly Cooper! Playing the first on a PS2 a friend brought over drove me to get the collection.
COOPER!!! You’ll never be rid of me! Clockwerk is Superior!!! And he was right. He gave the Sly’s friends scars after band of thieves destroyed despite Neyla’s schemes leading to the ending.
Oh God, thank you God. This must be the work of divine providence. Utterly succulent. Simply sublime. This is how you make something highly defined. I literally could not hear it over all of Clockwerk's shooting and talking.
Sly 1 Clockwerk: COOPER!! You will never be rid of me, Clockwerk is Superior! Sly 2 Bentley: (after getting crushed by Clockwerk's beak) Pick me up, I can't walk.
When playing the remaster, especially on the Mz Ruby boss fight, the music felt kind of messed up in a way. Then I got to Clockwerk. I took back everything I said.
Sorry my english, but i'm italian😅😅 In sly 2 it would have been the top to see Sly apparently defeating Clock-la and suddenly Clockwerk's voice resounds (a sign that he's back), and the real final battle begins. Maybe with this ost😍😍😍😍
This sounds exactly like something that would be a part of the Twisted Metal: Black soundtrack. That's honestly the first thing that appeared in my head at first. xD
I'd like to think that part of the reason why Clockwerk was obsessed with proving himself was because he didn't think about how turning himself into a immortal mechanical owl would make him a pretty terrible thief lol "How do you always best me, Cooper? Is it that book you hold dear?! Connor:" bruh, you're a giant fucking robot owl"

Then that final sprint to defeat the boss where the game throws every single enemy at you to test everything that you’ve learned up to that point
Seeing Clockwerk perched in the Ice Age during Sly 4, it's honestly chilling to think that Clockwerk's shadow has loomed over the Cooper lineage since prehistory.
Ironically, the fact he's the only non-anthropomorphic animal in the series makes him so otherworldly and imposing.
though it does make you wonder how he got himself a mechanical body back then
Well, technically the Bears from Sly 2 and the Wolf from 3 are non-anthropomorphic, but they're just regular animals where as Clockwerk has human level intellegence.
I have always found that to be a stupid Sly 4 retcon. There has never been a caveman Cooper established till Sly 4 and what on Earth is Clockwerk doing already a robot in prehistoric times when that Cooper was just using his thieving to survive? Lmao
@@drew1080 kinda wish they atleast made him a normal owl so it could atleast make some sense.
LMAO
It is such a small detail but it has a huge implication, and it makes Clockwerk look so stupid.
“Wow that’s one tough owl.”
"Enough! Sly Cooper, it ends here! I'll finish you like I finished your father, and the only master thief will be Clockwerk!"
Perfection Has No Age. It's true. This game is timeless.
clockwerk could return in sly 5
StormzXBeast72 If it's ever made, that is.
Or in Japanese in the HD remake (via different voice actors).... "Watashi wa jumyou nado nai...." (I am ageless as such...)
True. Clockwerk has an imposing presence in japanese.
Archon95 - Original Japanese game had him voiced by Naomi Kusumi (Dudley; very akin to his English voice)
HD version via re-recorded dialogue is instead Kunihiko Yasui (Iori Yagami).
"Sly Cooper. You escaped my gas chamber and destroy my death ray. Remarkable, you Coopers always manage to find a way to beat me."
Always? So it was you in Old pictures of the thievius raccoonus. How old are you?
+Christer Tverfjell "Perfection has no age"
+GalaxyGamerDude "What?! You're Immortal?"
Joonas Salminen "Revenge is the prime ingredient in the fountain of youth. I kept myself alive for hundreds of years with a steady diet of jealousy and hate, awaiting the day that i would finally eclipse your family's thieving reputation."
"Perfection has no age"
That was beautiful.
That's pretty much exactly what happens! Such sweet nostalgia!
No. For me he embodies childhood trauma in the form of repressed emotions. Its scarier.
I was so proud of myself when I came back to it years later and beat him
_"COOPER! You will _*_never_*_ be rid of me. Clockwerk...is...SUPERIOR."_
This actually gave goosebumps.
BlokePurple ikr
Then I guess R.L Stine must be here, on account he discovered some of the pages of the Thevious Racounous in his typewriter. Which eventually leads to a team up of Sly Cooper and the gang with R.L Stine, Zach, Hannah Fairchild, and the rest of the Goosebumps Allie's to help take down Slappy and his crew who have summoned Clockwerk evil spirit.
The choir is what REALLY gives me goosebumps when listening to this epic final boss music!
This is what the PS2 version sounded like to me as a kid. I'm glad the version in my head became a realty.
Clockwerk's theme is just so epic, it fits the battle perfectly, and is also amazing music! In the movie, I hope Ross Douglas (Original Voice actor of Clockwerk himself) comes back to voice that badass mechanical eagle-owl!
Kevin Blackton voiced Clockwerk according to Kevin Miller
So much for the movie...
@@The_D_ray Turns out that Kevin Blackton passed away a while back so that's a shame.
@@goofnutgav God rest his soul.
Correction Kevin Blackton voiced the character along with all male members of the fiendish five. Fandom or any wiki related stuffs aren't that reliable. They sometimes give false information and then corrects the error.
Cooper! You will NEVER be rid of me! Clockwerk is superior!
So much freeroam that Clockwerk had allready a Plan to come back.
*SLY COOPER IS MY FAVORITE GAME SERIES!!*
Me too. Hey who's your favorite sly cooper villain?
+Christer Tverfjell LeParadox and Clockwerk, and yours?
+ShadowGamerBR mine is Clockwerk & Neyla.
Christer Tverfjell cool
+ShadowGamerBR I hear this theme in the wow trailer for legion when the guy says the burning legion has returned.
Perfection as no age.
MrGrey321 What? You're immortal?
MrGrey321 *has
I personally feel that the remastered version added more than the original especially when it came to the music.
It gave you chills down your spine, knowing that Clockwerk was out for blood. Definitely one of the most underrated video game villains, he is.
MegamanNG *Peeks over* Sooooo.....how's life?
Nothing much.
I just hated the broken ms. ruby fight.
True, but everything else was spot on
One dislike is from a guy who never couldn't beat Clockwerk.
First off, that's a double negative, and second, this battle theme kicks ass. Clockwerk is my favorite antagonist ever.
Grey Teknoman "i can't possibly lose against this thing, this is such bullshit...!!"
BlitzDuzm 5 Dislikes. Sly, Bently, Murry, Carmelita, and the guy you mentioned.
The boss is ez i finished the entire serie O_o and Clockwerk i gived him the name of ClockTWERK XD I am good at Sly cooper serie :) And i love it :3
I have to say, that this is one of the greatest boss themes I've heard in all my years of gaming.
Sly Cooper was the best game series I have ever played.
Clockwerk fight sequence clips

1:04 phase 1 clockwerk weakness
2:02 clockwerk isn’t down yet
2:18 phase 2 clockwerk last stand
4:40 clockwerk down for the count but is trying to escape
I'm seriously hoping that in the Sly movie, they'll use this exact theme for the battle against him.. Omg I'd have a smile on my face :D
***** Same here, I hope they get the same voice of clockwerk and if they dont and they find some new guy to do the voice it wont feel the same, and if they do get the same voice of Clockwerk I hope he can bring the same amount of badassery and amazingness that he gave in the first game
+o'ʙʀɪᴇɴ Is it confirmed that clockwerk is going to be the villain of the film?
Russell Danis He is gonna be the villian
Excellent. Maybe the movie won't be so bad after all. My hopes may be dashed though if they make the movie childish.
Agreed. I want it to be an epic movie, Sly deserves it.
"I'll finish you like I finished your father. The Cooper line will be erased and the only Master Thief will be... Clockwerk."*
Im 30 years old now. And Ive played the Sly games when I was a teenager. And this music is so hauntingly good its unbelievable. One of the best boss fights in PS2 gaming history.

Literally the greatest boss fight ever, of all time.
sly: "I don't get it. you're so familiar with my family-you must have known my father had a son. if you hated the coopers so much, why did you just leave me be when you stole the thievius racconus?"
Clockwerk: "because i wanted to show the world that without you precious book the cooper line was nothing."

Clockwerk: "Enough, Sly cooper! It ends here. I'll finish you like i finished your father. Then the cooper line will be erased and the only master thief will be clockwerk."
What made Clockwerk such a great villain, is that he was fueled by pure Hatred and Jealousy, he admitted it himself. He even went as far as to replace Every. Single. Part of himself, in order to ensure success in his goal--
Erase the Cooper Clan.
He was an amazing boss fight as well, and he music fit perfectly... And the scary thing is, he loved that feeling of a Hatred, he never needed food, and this Hatred kept him alive for Millenia, no matter how many times the Cooper clan defeated him (as stated in the boss fight), he came back, faster, stronger and smarter than ever before. He haunts the Cooper clan, and even though his Main heart, the "Hate Chip" was destroyed in the Sequel, he still lives.
His hate was so strong, that his body didn't even melt in Magma, and whenever ***SPOILERS*** Neela took his rebuilt body in Sly 2, it was hinted that he was slowly coming back, and it showed in the very end, his Body, his Soul, began to Corrupt Neela.
*Symbolism Intensifies*

***** And probably an equally-sized question, how was that thing made in the first place? In Sly 4, he makes a cameo appearance in levels...even in the stone age! That's even farther back from the Egyptian era, which was shown back in Sly 1 and...well, the point is, how? Just *how*, man?!

If they somehow bring Clockwerk back in Sly 5, I would love a remix of this song.
he got 2 parts. And homages in the 4th game. I think he played his part.
+Albert Keinstein He's still the main villain of the series and lots of potential has been wasted in the 4th game. A LOT
OddsomeOddy the 4th game wasted many things. I dont even consider it a valid Sly Game. Give the rights back to Sucker Punch.
***** I know :(
Clockwerk is in Sly 4 in certain parts tho
That moment you realize Owl's actually prey on Racoons IRL.
Ah man, RiP Ashif Hakik… his music was my childhood
I would’ve liked to see him creating Sly Cooper soundtrack alongside Peter MacConnell
I never noticed just how awesome the Clockwerk theme is. I think I may had been distracted by the giant metal bird in front of me.
Perfection Has No Age, And So Does This Music!
(Although my favorite Sly game will always be Honor Among Thieves)
rest in peace ashif hakik the composer for the sly cooper games. you will be missed :(
"Crank" his OSTs for him!
Best Sly Cooper track ever.
did you know that clock-la has two other names. Naila-werk in the japanese version and Clockeyla in french version?
Christer Tverfjell
So Neyla's new name sucks no matter what version it is...!
I'm kinda leaning towards Clockeyla.
Wow! i never knew that!
Clockeyla? Sounds like a fancy alcoholic drink.
COOPER! You will never be rid of me... Clockwerk is Superior!
Victory:
Defeat Clockwerk with Sly & Carmelita and get the Death Ray Firing Switch before Player Turn ends in Round 20
Guard the nukes from Robo-Falcons
Defeat:
1). Sly & Carmelita are defeated
2). Someone other than Sly & Carmelita defeats Clockwerk
3). Unable to get the Death Ray Firing Switch before conditions are met
4). A Robo-Falcon reaches a nuke
Valkyria Chronicles used a similar format for their mission briefings.
Some SRPGs do it (like Final Fantasy: Tactics, IIRC).
To this day, this battle is one of those short but "Let's do it again for the OST" kinds of bossfights for me. Sly Cooper games were so good (1-3 at least. Those are ones I played as kid... Good old times)
I've been looking for this so long in better quality, thanks!
It sure is hard to come by, I'm fairly certain this is the only one uploaded on YT that has the calm version before you begin the fight :P
Clockwerk is truly an underrated villain. I wish they brought him back somehow in Sly 3 or 4.
Sly 1
Clockwerk: COOPER!! You will never be rid of me, Clockwerk is Superior!
Sly 2
Bentley: (after getting crushed by Clockwerk's beak) Pick me up, I can't walk.
Cooper! You will never be rid of me! Clockwerk is superior!
When playing the remaster, especially on the Mz Ruby boss fight, the music felt kind of messed up in a way. Then I got to Clockwerk. I took back everything I said.
That's good to hear, cause making remasters from ps2 titles ain't easy
I’ve been playing video games for almost 20 years and clockwerk is still my favorite villain of all time
This is one of the most badass boss-themes in video game history!
Sorry my english, but i'm italian😅😅
In sly 2 it would have been the top to see Sly apparently defeating Clock-la and suddenly Clockwerk's voice resounds (a sign that he's back), and the real final battle begins. Maybe with this ost😍😍😍😍
i cant be the only person here from a titanic break-up theory compilation right?
*right?*
your not the only one
NOPE
I want to show the world that without your precious book the Cooper line will be nothing.
The one thing that never fails to give me chills is the sound of Clockwerks wings flapping right before he reveals himself
... it's so ominous
This sounds exactly like something that would be a part of the Twisted Metal: Black soundtrack.
That's honestly the first thing that appeared in my head at first. xD
I had never such music come through my ears! :)

Favorite bit
I'd like to think that part of the reason why Clockwerk was obsessed with proving himself was because he didn't think about how turning himself into a immortal mechanical owl would make him a pretty terrible thief lol
"How do you always best me, Cooper? Is it that book you hold dear?!
Connor:" bruh, you're a giant fucking robot owl"
Play this while taking a math test. It's perfect.

Think about it. Clockwerk is NOW A HATE FUELED COMPUTER.
Sly Cooper is the most fortunate cooper and one of characters I can say survived a VERY dangerous entity!
"You can't dodge me forever"
me : hold my controler
i've never been able to fully tell what he's saying as he speaks those labored lines after he plummets into the volcano for the final time, but it's always been chilling
A strange reunion indeed....

ENOUGH SLY COOPER. THIS ENDS HERE
I hope that Clockwerk is in the Sly Cooper movie
The true evil villain in Sly Cooper!!!!
This is perfection. Sly 1 had something special that no other game can re create. I like sly 2 more, but this game is amazing. This song is the only thing acceptable for them to use if there will be a face of against clockwerk in the movie or a new game. I will be *MAD* if they use anything else. This sets the mood perfectly. Nothing can re create the feelings i had during this boss. Simply amazing..
Its really creepy to think clockwork kept himself alive with his hate of the coopers and replaced his body with robotic parts just to stalk the coopers
Because i wanted to show the world that without your precious book the cooper line was nothing
*flashbacks*
My only issue with this HD version is how long it takes to build up at the start, but otherwise it's pretty lit.
Now this is more like it!
CLOCKWERK was so creepy as a child. Wish we can get a sly Cooper 5 to wrap things up and CLOCKWERK should return.
"IT ENDS HERE!"
SLY BEHIND YOU
Clokwerck. Is amazing❤____❤
