What’s the perfect gift for a 17-Year-old graduating senior? Well, if your name is Autmn Mayo and you’ve just graduated from Sitka High School… of course it would be a Hypertherm Powermax 45 SYNC Plasma cutter of course!
You see, Autumn discovered her love of welding in Mr. Pike’s class and since her first weld she was bonded to the art and skill of the hot flame! So much so, the recent graduate is heading to Arizona in the fall to further her metalwork and welding skills at the Universal Technical Institute (UTI). On a whim, she sent the company that makes the the plasma cutters an invitation to her graduation and they… surprised her with a $25-hundred dollar plasma cutter that she needed to pursue her career in metal work! Autumn is part of a growing number of students who are focused on technical education. And Autumn is entering a field where even in the year 2024 women only account for just over 6-percent of welders working today. Autumn was totally surprised and blown away by the gift… and she says after she graduates, she plans to come back to Sitka and work on ships and be around the town and the water she loves.
