2 Echo Dot Minis 4th gen. paired with a Echo Sub, Echo Flex, Echo Show 5, Echo Dot 2nd gen. and a Echo Dot 4th generation; controlling bulbs and switches. Thanks for the help you have given me on these devices.
You are welcome. Thank you for all the support over the years. You have quite a collection going now. Have a great day James.
You're extemely useful sir do you know that? All of yoyr videos are extremely informative. Subbed!
I have an Echo Show 8 in my living room, a Dot in the front of my house, and my garage. Echo Auto in my truck. A Ring doorbell, and an Echo Spot in my office at work tied into my house. 4 Hue lights in my house and a pair of Echo earbuds. And still looking to expand some more.
While over the years I have accumulated a number Echo devices, mostly Show’s. What I still can’t quite understand is why they continue to refuse to overhaul their Home screen, or at a minimum allow owners to fully customize it. They have to know Apple will one day release a display model of the HomePod that will potentially be eye candy. Amazon need to stay the leader rather than wait to play catch up.
Love all our echo dots but looking forward to upgrading to a show or two.
I have already started. I will eventually swap out all non screen devices to Shows.
Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching. 🙏
Fully invested in both Apple and Amazon's ecosystems but primarily home control goes to the Echo Dot, Show 4, mini dot in our barn and finally an echo flex for our bathroom . Apple really has my computing and cell phone needs though and continues to dominate my television as well . Always enjoy your work Craig , thank you !
Was looking to move to Amazon, got one echo but could not find anyway to set it up so that our individual Spotify accounts were linked so that we could play our own playlists by recognising our voices. We set up Amazon family but that made no difference. It recognised who we were but only the Spotify playlists of the user who registered the device could be played. Google allows us to do this but could not find a way to do this with Amazon. With 4 of us in the house this is biggest feature we use on google home.
all my christmas lights are on my amazon plugs and 3 years ago while on thanksgiving break it started with one plug.......now the is smart. LOL
Craig, great video for folks new to, or thinking about trying Amazon.
Your costs for entry to each ecosystem assumes that everyone uses an iphone.
For me to dabble in homekit would require much more than $99 for a homepod mini since there is no homekit app for android. That's what keeps me from even thinking about apple.
Thank you David. That is a great point David. Price definitely looks better when you factor that in. I think Apple is going to have to open it up to android if they want to get really serious.
I'm feeling very inclined to get a ring alarm system (the 2nd get not the new pro) since I have 2 show 5s, 1 dot, 1 tap, 1 sonos beam and 1 fridge with Alexa Lol.
I have a dot 3rd gen and want to change it to 4th gen .Do i have to set all of my routines and settings again? Delete the info on the 3rd gen? Dont want to loose my settings on all my devices i have now...
Got a couple of products that are Alexa compatible - no good for me as “I’m a Siri girl”. Got the Echo Buds with noise reduction and an Amazfit Band 5. Would recommend both - especially useful if you’re already in this eco system.
I’ll wait as I want one system (TV, speakers, cable modem, etc) that will allow user a choice to stream tv, watch live tv from cable modem or any cell or tablet, especially Apple products. My Sonos Arc, Sub and Sonos 1’s are hard to beat. Google has screwed Nest app up with new Nest door bell and Cams that only work on Google Assistant.
I have both Amazon Alexa and google home kit. I keep Alexa for almost all automation from my house and google nest hub for youtube videos (i'm from Romania and unfortunately google nest is the only device who stream youtube videos).
Craig - I need your help! I am pretty sure that you had a video and a link to a fireplace that would play as a routine on an Echo show - can you tell me which video it was - thanks!
I just use a fireplace skill. Go to the alexa app/more tab/skills & games/search for fireplace. Some of the results are audio only, some are video & audio.
Great video, I have a question. Can I turn on devices with my echo dot while I'm not at home
Yes you can turn on devices when you are not home. You can use the Alexa app or the devices manufacturer app. When you make a request it is going to the cloud. Alexa is then communicating with the device through its link to the manufacturers skill. The echo dot isn’t needed for the process. It is just the speaker making the request to Alexa and the cloud.
I spent today re-setting up my smart home with google after buying the nest hub. Well I guess the grass is not always greener. Yes, the display is super quick! Amazon should really be embarrassed by the speed of both the show devices as well as the app. But the google app is way more complicated for setting everything up and the nest hub display seems very cluttered and disorganized. While slow, the echo shows are much more consumer friendly for navigation. I also like the fact that most of the settings are accessible on the shows and don't require the app. Plus when comparing the show 8 to the nest hub (7 inch display), the show just smokes the nest in sound quality.
You need more than one day to give Google Home a fair shot. I have both but prefer Google.
@@michaelkwan5257 Same here. I have a mixture of Google Home and Echo Speakers and Displays throughout my home. But my cameras, doorbell, and thermostats are Nest. I have to say that I prefer Google Home better as well, for SOME things. Like I love the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max much better for the display, photo frame feature and smart home accessibility on their hub is much easier to use and the interface is better than what's on the Echo Show. BUT having said that, the Echo ecosystem is much more broad and offers way more features and seems to be more reliable. I'm tired of waiting on Google to replace their Nest Secure alarm system that they discontinued, so I am about to pull the trigger and replace my ADT system with Ring. And as a result of that, I've decided that I'm going to gradually, over time, move away from Google over to Amazon Echo and Ring throughout the home.
I have 3 echo dots and have tried to set up multi room but only 2 will connect they are all registered to me and are on same WiFi network ... only 2 will pair
I have some sort of Alexa in every room in my home except the half bath in the family room. They run my entire home. I love the fourth gen echos built in hub. It allowed me to get rid of a standalone hub. The only device I disliked was the first echo show 5. She got banished to the garage.
We at our house use the Alexa / Amazon set up cause it’s just easy. We have ring/eero/ echoes etc…
I wish my Sonos speakers could integrate better with my echos… but I imagine Amazon put limits on 3rd party devices.
Since when did google get rid of second gen nest hub ??
My inventory 3 echo shows Echo 4th gen 2 echo 3rd gen 2 echo dots 2nd gen 1 echo sub countless number of smart lamps and switches 2 Amazon tv cubes 3 fire sticks 1 myQ garage door control and 7 cameras all linked to my echo shows! And a pit curdog for security!
I have all three, it gets annoying remember to tell Alexa to turn on the garage lights, and hey google for the rest of the house then Siri is basically useless, I use it for the home pod mini in the kitchen.
Because of your videos I ended up getting 6 Echo Dots 3’s in my house. Have you done a review on the Echo Link yet?
Sorry for spending your money. 😀👍I hope it has been worth it. I have not done a review on the link. I didn’t have a place for it to be used.
@@CraigsTechTalk
Love your videos and live streaming on Saturdays. I always say hi. I’m wondering if the Echo Link would allow you to stream whatever audio content from your phone or tablet to all of your Echo devices in the house? I know there is currently no good way to do it. Thanks
@@BreakTime10101 Yes, the link allows you to cast to all your echos BUT it requires a wired connection. I use a 3.5 mm cord to plug in my phone, computer or mp3 player. I love it. I paid $150 last black friday.
@@dnoland77
Can you use the built in Bluetooth or a connected Bluetooth adapter?
@@BreakTime10101 So I read your question at lunch but wanted to see if there was some kind of update. Sadly no. While you can play through BT to the link, it will only play through your receivers speakers (assuming you have the link wired into a home theater system). To cast/stream to any or all your echos you will need a wired connection. I'm guessing that your phone does not have a headphone jack?
I think it's the most misunderstood product in the echo lineup. I've even thought of buying a separate laptop/chromebook just to store my music and just keep it wired into the link. Yes, I have a lot of cd's and mp3's.
This isn’t exactly a reason not to go with Alexa. But it concerns me that they are extremely silent on the whole ‘Thread’ Standard. Although they’ve announced support for Matter initiative; which addresses interoperability between platforms. I’m looking to hear more from them on Thread support. I’m looking to see stuff like Eve, Nanoleaf work with instant responses that Thread is known to provide.
What is the point of thread?
The analog clock face is now available on the Echo Show?! (Oh, my main reason for going with Amazon & Echo devices was CTT. :) )
Always been there. BUT if you choose a clock with a background that cycles, it's broken. Has been for months now and amazon will not even admit it's their software that broke it.
@@dnoland77 Thanks! I’ll have to check that. Does it work on the 8, as well? I’ll have to experiment! I use my Spot as a bedside device since I like the clock (and size) but the 5 does sound better and I have one on ‘time out’ right now!
@@larrybrown1984 Analog clocks only on the 5.
I’m sorry Larry for sending you down the rabbit hole. I do wish they would just move the same faces from the five over to the eight. It is so much better on the five. I do like the options that you’re able to pick through on the five. Thank you for checking out the video. Again I’m sorry for sending you down the Smart Home journey😀👍
Thank David. Bummer Amazon won’t own the dumb stuff they do.
Want my echo to have the ability to default on RUclips music please
#1 reason for switching from Google to Amazon (besides lots of other reasons) is ability to CHANGE THE HOTWORD.
I use all three but my voice assistant is Alexa
That is great that you’re using all three. They all have their benefits and it’s good to know what they’re all capable of. I like that. Have a great day.
@@CraigsTechTalk yup out of all of them Siri then Alexa then google
From time to time and especially lately, the Amazon Echo infrastructure is having issues like: Not responding to voice from one device only, confusing my requests for general information instead playing music I don't like. I didn't ask for music. Hearing the wake up word but not processing my further request, giving me the most incorrect answer it can find, not finding answers to easy questions. I have 6 or 7 of these Gen2 devices and in the past few years they are getting more unreliable with the output. I also have two Google devices and they have been rock solid so far. I'd change fully to Google but I have too many Amazon cameras and doorbells. Stuck between two vendors.
Agreed, while each year brings more features, basic functionality like voice recognition seems to get worse. And now some of those basic features have disappeared like unlimited calling, sms texting, and streaming your own music content that you uploaded to amazons cloud.
They have a horrible habit of just releasing untested stuff leaving us to be the beta testers. The option to move music between rooms/groups was just released but if an Echo Link is included in one of your rooms it won't work.
@@dnoland77 I know a way to upload custom mp3s but it is a bit more tech savy and a bit of a work around
Reason to Go with echo? Hubby hates cell phones and will only use his 10" fire or a desktop. So if I want him to be able to use the automations, it's just easier to use echo
Alexa, find my firestick remote. What do you mean you can't!!!
My show 5 is very annoying at moment I have it in the bedroom and love that you can have the full size clock but this has recently changed I get the same small clock in the corner as I have on my show 8 . I can get the large clock back if I put it into do not disturb but this only lasts until I ask Alexa to do something it then goes back to the small clock in corner is anybody else having this issue 😂
What I’ve done to ensure a large clock is go into settings and turn the screen content all off and turn off continuous rotation. Then it sits on the clock.
@@CraigsTechTalk cheers Craig I’m in the uk and there was an update there on my show 5 and 8 and it seems to of sorted the problem out hope your enjoying your show 15 I’ve ordered it but not coming until mid January I cannot wait
They still did not resolve the problem of Samsung Smart things creating doubles in Mrs A ! (5 years and counting)
That is annoying that they still have not fix that. Thanks for watching.
We're a HomePod house so I thought I would watch this to see what I’m missing… nothing basically haha except for maybe cheaper prices. But I think you’re getting a worse product for that price, and also selling your privacy as well.
I is about time Amazon makes serious work rolling out their devices and functions in Europe (Holland). Now they have nothing special to offer.
If they will not soon penetrate other markets (language) they get behind google.
No RUclips... for Amazon
You can watch RUclips on the Echo Shows.
Try this command, OK Google turn on the light in 10 minutes 🏡
You’re right. Google Assistant can do things that Alexa can’t. But the opposite is also true. No vocal assistant is perfect. Fortunately, I have both at home. I guess I have the best of both worlds.
That is nice. I really do believe they all have their own benefits. I recommend people try both, if finances allow it.
But you can do the opposite with an echo, "alexa, set a 10 minute sleep timer for lights"
Echo Auto is not even half baked. All it would do would tell the time and weather. No audible. It is complete garbage. I sent it back.
2 reasons not to….privacy and responsiveness
