I just discovered Weta Workshop via Adam Savage's page. As a live steam model railroader I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the owner's hobby is driving miniature trains!
Ohhh... I am confusticated. They said they were working on Avatar, which would put this event some time in 2008 or 2009. But I think they made those eagles to celebrate the opening of The Desolation of Smaug, which was in December 2013.
