"mezcla" means "blend" of coffee from different producers and/or countries. Yeah shopping in Spain is sometimes a jaw-dropping experience, especially groceries and gourmet foodstuff. Wines and cheeses are commonly under "denominacion de origen" (literally designation of origin) which is a food regulated trademark or standard for particular, specific geographical areas or regions. For instance, Cabrales is a famous cheese produced up north in the Autonomous Community of Asturias. You're becoming a local. Lovely dog. Cheers from Valencia. Good video and congratulations on your first thousand subscribers.
Just moved to Valencia for a few months, thanks for this video! Is the shop in El Corte Ingles open on Sundays, and which one do you prefer? or do they have a supermarket as well in all locations where there's a department store?
I recommend a good lamb when you go down to Andalusia or a suckling pig when you go to Castile and in Valencia the paella is good if you want to know about any dish, ask you whet my appetite with the video hahaha
I’m in a small town in your region, but I do get to Valencia. Yesterday was in Castellón and they have a Corte Inglés and bought an espresso machine. That store is equivalent of a Macy’s/Bloomingdale’s. Today was a Holiday so no stores open. We have 2 Spar’s and one Consum. I live an equal distance. The wine selection is awesome! Still looking for Kraft type Parmesan cheese. Lazy. And looking for distilled vinegar. Don’t think I’ll go through the trouble of making Tortillas de Patatas ever again as my why when I can buy one for €1.90? At Consum. So I know you last lived in LA, me too, but your accent sounds Spanish, so wondering what is your native language?
I am not familiar with Kraft type Parmesan, but in Spain - as well as in most of Europe - when it comes to Parmesan you can find the authentic, controlled label Parmigiano Reggiano (the real thing) and Grana Padano cheese, which I find a very good, cheaper alternative. You also have the myriad fake Parmesans but it is just not worth it. Buy a whole piece and a good grater, those Microplane-type ones are great, and grate it right over your pasta. Totally different ball game. Also nothing compares to a home made tortilla de patatas, don't be lazy hahaha. Once you get the hang of it and dominate the process, it becomes second nature. The olive oil you fry the potato with can be sifted and reused several times like most Spanish households do. If you have never tried it with a little finely chopped onion and italian green peppers, by all means do. Welcome and enjoy Spain!
For the oil to reuse, you might as well use garlic. I'm aware that garlic is not everybody's taste yet it does what it promises and us, garlic lovers, there never ever is enough of it!!!!!
@@RobertRod818 Yes I knew it. Horchata valenciana is very sweet and was made by Egyptians ( north of Africa ) more than 2000 years ago . Roman Empire named after " hordeata" . La horchata was brought to Spain by the Arabs in the 8th century

Thanks for the breakdown. El Corte Ingles is pricey, but has a great selection. It would be like Whole Foods in the US.

In México people use the same word " horchata " for a drink that has nothing to do with horchata valenciana

The base of horchata in Mexico is rice.
In El Salvador the base for horchata is calabash seeds. They taste like some sort of nuts.
