      "Over the Top" (arm wrestling with Sly Stallone) wasn't a classic movie, but "Meet Me Half Way" was a big hit for Loggins. I attended a Christian school when I was in the 4th grade. My BFF at the time came over to spend the night with me at my dad's house and we watched "Footloose." Her parents weren't "cool" like mine - her dad was the high school football coach, and we found out was a lot like John Lithgow's character. She was never allowed to spend the night with me again after that. I had to get 2 cassette tapes of the soundtrack because I listened to it so much on my walkman.

    8:47 that billboard advertisement is actually for the 2011 reimagined _Footloose_ movie, due to the MTV Films logo and the official movie website in the lower right-hand corner of the billboard itself. Also, the date, October 14, corresponds to the 2011 version of the movie, because the original 1984 version was theatrically released in the US on February 17, 1984. An interesting fact about the 2011 version Kevin Bacon was offered a cameo in that movie as Ren McCormick's deadbeat father, but he turned the part down.

    I always loved the fact that the entire point of why Shaw banned drinking and dancing was because his own son was so irresponsible and wild it caused his and his friends' deaths and because his grief over it and how he thought he failed with him was so powerful he didn't bring all of the other kids together to TALK to them about it and ask them how THEY felt about it too. How Ariel rebelled because it changed him so much after they had been so close and then he wouldn't listen to or talk to her like he used to, she thought he really didn't care about her anymore, and after she finally told him how much it hurt her he talked to Ren about it:( His intentions were in the right place just like the kids' were, but they lost touch with each other and ran away from instead of toward each other...
    And I tried with the remake, I REALLY did, but OW, was it PAINFUL...the kid named Worm being the worst part of it...

  • @kryptonianpowers
    @kryptonianpowers 2 года назад +3

    I feel that Ariel Moore, Ren McCormack's romantic interest/significant other had VERY little character development in both the original film and 2011 remake.
    She should've been given a small backstory of where she babysat Ren's cousins, Sarah and Amy Warnicker before the beginning of the story, such as during the summers and while in school on occasion before Ren moved to Bomont from Chicago (Boston in the remake) all the while was paid for her services and had secretly taught Ren's cousins how to dance during her babysitting gigs.
    She also could have been a cheerleader, too.

    BONUS FACT: The small town in UTAH where FOOTLOOSE was filmed is predominantly Mormon. Once filming ended, or the lease expired, the town had enough, it would not extend the lease, so the film crew & cast had to skidaddle out of town. The Mormon town felt they were doing the Devil's work. That was one reason re-shooting the last dance scene did not take place until months after filming ended. I wish you had discussed the major giant flaw in the plot. The town banned dancing at the minister's Shaw's request because, as Ariel tells the story, after a night of dancing, her older brother died in a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. Shaw's solution to his son dying after drunk driving is not to provide a place kid's can dance at without driving, but, instead, to ban dancing and force kids to go far away to dance, thus needing drive, increasing their chance of also driving while under the influence. Shaw's reaction is depicted as trying to be controlling, but it is worse, it picks a solution that is bound and set on killing other kids.

      And with a bit of coaching, wham! he instantly becomes John Travolta by the end! He's my favorite character by far.

      @@jackhammer0101 for a character with zero rhythm he does a pretty good job after a couple weeks, keeping up with the others at that dance.

      @@hayleyferguson3346 I agree that he did his best and he fit the character well, I'm sure it was hard for him.. But my initial comment was just that his dancing was funny, and the humor of it was based on how uncomfortable and unskilled he was at dancing, and it showed.

    I don’t understand why I got made fun of for wanting dolls with my action figures… That scene of her riding between the cars was awesome. I grew up in the 80s/90s. Ellen Ripley, Sarah Conner, Dr. Sadler and many other awesome female driven movie scenes. Of course I would want dolls with my action figures. Let the boys play. I had to put half of my G.I. Joe’s in drag 🤣🤣🤣

    The 2011 remake to me is worth at least one watching, since while it doesn't surpass the original pays nice tribute to it, and on of the things that to me does right is explaining a little bit more Trent's back story on his parents since on this one moves online because his Dad left him like in the original but Spoiler Alert...................
    his Mon passed away of Cancer and the Dad bailed them when she got sick and was Trent the one that took care looked after her until the end, and is then when he move with his aunt and uncle, (which aren't the butt kissers the are in the original), and defend Trent with the minister telling him about Trent's folks and showing him how much he values life and knows the loss of a loved one.

    I don't think Footloose would've become a classic with the original title cheek to cheek or footloose and fancy free. So good call to keep it short simple and sharp with Footloose. I'm not going to spoil it for you i liked the remake Footloose for the most part. There was a couple of things i didn't like about it one is i don't think it's a spoiler they should've created whole new characters for this version especially for the main thing i disliked about the Footloose remake.
