    So very true, and May Allah give us Believers the balance He wants for us, so that we are not blindly following some political herd without thinking or reflecting. May Allah accept your genuine and thoughtful Dawah, Imam Tom.
    Holy Quran,Sura 5:77, “O People of the Book! Exceed NOT in your religion the bounds of what is proper, trespassing beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of people who went wrong in times gone by,-who misled many, and strayed themselves from the EVEN WAY.”
    May Allah keep giving you good speech and miracles in the family, and communities there. Ameen
    Love this point that “Islam is the balance between authority and independence.”
    (Ayatollahs are no examples of “Islamic authority” for us, nor are those of extreme arrogance anywhere-May Allah help our Ummah, and all people of Faith communities).
    (These days, here, both Democrats and Republicans have tended to go crazy, with selective empathy towards some people of their own types).
    “You got the wrong gang colors on.” Lol
    “Use coherent and consistent principles.” In’sha’Allah
    “Muslims are people who accept the truth no matter who says it.” Subhanallah
    (One of the most intelligent qutbahs that I’ve chanced to listen to, and learned from).

    Wonderful lecture, jazakallah khair! The videos are shared widely amid my youth group, and I'm happy to see youngsters eager to broaden their horizons. A bit of commentary, I'd like to add regarding Andrew Tate. While, yes, as Imam Tom graciously reminded us that a broken clock is indeed right twice a day - the way truth is utilized as an impetus for a platform is troublesome. That is the situation our communities are facing with figures like Tate and others (including the unqualified). Someone speaking truth to power amid a slew of the rest of their nastiness is not enough for our communities to vault that person into a prominence and influence. We have to be discerning in who we are willing to give positions of influence and valorize. Looking forward to even more great content, inshaAllah. Barakallahu feek!

    There were two main points that really resonated with me: 1) Don’t assume motives and 2) Don’t stereotype.
    You see, the biggest split in the Ummah is the Sunni - Shi’a split and when you get to the root of things, the problem is with assuming motives for the first three caliphs and of course, anyone during Ali (RA)’s caliphate who opposed or even was neutral with him. You know the history. I don’t have to explain it here. Really, all the arguments concerning Imam Ali literally boil down to a) everyone hated Imam Ali’s guts and were evil or b) everyone was amazing and perfect and no mistakes were made, both of which are false and assume motives. You simply cannot simplify the situation down like that, especially something as intricate as this.
    As for the second main point, it is that people stereotype. For example, the Sufis assume that the Salafis (not to be confused with Wahhabis, who I consider to be the more extreme variety) are all haters of the awliya’ and not just people that like the idea of using the Qur’an and the Sunnah as the basis of everything and the Salafis assume that all Sufis are grave-worshipping mushriks. Neither are true.
    Moreover, people use these stereotypes to reject information which may be sound. And I have personally dealt with this, since my father, may Allah bless him for his goodness, does this a lot. I have been brought up and am personally very invested in the Sufi tradition, very interested in Ibn Arabi and such. However, if Assim al-Hakeem was to say something correct that I didn’t know, or an angle that I never noticed, I wouldn’t just say that he’s dumb and knows nothing. No, it’s “Those that listen to the word and follow the best of it; Those are the ones Allah has guided and they are the possessors of the kernel.” “Wisdom is the lost item of the believer, so wherever he finds it, he is entitled to it (or so the hadith goes).”
    You don’t reject a person because they seem like one group or the other. You give each person a chance to express their opinion and you evaluate that opinion and accept it or reject it. However, you don’t use it to make a judgement about the person’s morality or goodness. You just don’t. And this is why I prefer Sunnism over Shi’ism. Sunnis just have a better sense of husn ul-dhunn. You assume good about a person until proven otherwise. You make 70 excuses for your brother. This is what I wish my father and people like him would understand. The world isn’t black and white, and people you thought may be black may have some whiteness in them, and you shouldn’t reject that because there’s more black.
    Yeah, that’s really it. Thanks for the great lecture.
    - From a young Muslim brother.

    Assalamu Aliakum! Brother, were it not the orientalists who wrote books with the aim of killing off the spirit of jihad among the Muslims and proving that Islam was not spread by the sword, rather that it spread by means of peaceful preaching, free from any use of force? They set a trap for Muslims and a majority of the Muslims fell in it. The answer to the question whether Islam was spread by sword needs explanation. If one answers that no it wasn't spread by sword, he/she would need to explain the letters and expeditions of Muslims in the lands of Syria, Iraq, Persia etc. When the Messenger called people to Islam, his call was accompanied by the sword, and he commanded his leaders to do likewise, so that when the people saw the serious of the Muslims in calling people to their religion, that dispelled any confusion.
    The defeatists should fear Allaah lest they distort this religion and cause it to become weak on the basis of the claim that it is a religion of peace. Yes, it is the religion of peace but in the sense of saving all of mankind from worshipping anything other than Allaah and submitting all of mankind to the rule of Allaah. This is the religion of Allaah, not the ideas of any person or the product of human thought, so that those who promote it should feel ashamed to state its ultimate goal, which is that all religion (worship) should be for Allaah alone.

    • @UTICAMASJID
      @UTICAMASJID  Год назад +9

      I hear what you're saying, but there is a layer of nuance missing from what you wrote. When orientalists say "Islam spread by the sword," they are talking about forced conversions, not what you are writing about. The expansion if Islam and the jurisdiction of Shariah of course is a foundational and ultimate goal.
      All the more reason to be wary of falling into reactionary thinking. Just as it's wrong to say that Islam is only about peace in the way you are referencing, it is also incorrect to say that Islam was spread by the sword in the way the Orientalists meant it. Thus the importance of balance.
      -Imam Tom

    • @shahzadahmadmir
      @shahzadahmadmir Год назад

      @@UTICAMASJID I am of your mind but my only concern was the "absolutely not" answer to the question whether Islam was spread by sword. Just to keep the balance and to not go on any of the extreme, I think it's necessary to explain the answer instead of replying with yes or no option. Either way it would be playing in the hands of the orientalists and misinforming the Muslims.

    Allah does not love kufr and the kuffar. Allah's attribute of love "hubb" is causative, the shirk and kufr of the kuffar prevents Allah from loving them. Allah made following his Messenger as a condition to aquire his love.
    Allah says...
    Say, [O Muḥammad], "If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."(3:31).

      I had discussions with a few people after this video was released, and I'll ask you as well.
      There's no doubt that Allah doesn't love kufr or the kafireen. But we also know that Allah provides and has rahmah for all, upon the understanding that some rahmah is general to all Creation as opposed to other types which is specific to the believers.
      Is it possible to have rahmah for someone and provide for them and not have any love for them? Or is love divided into parts just as rahmah is divided into parts, with some being exclusive to the believers and some being general for all creation? Is Allah's statement negating love for the kafireen exhaustive of all types of love or only the type of love that is, as you called it, causative?
      Any sources you could direct me to would be appreciated.

      @UTICA MASJID According to the book Three Fundamental Principles, explained by Shaikh Uthaimeen: Rahmah is general for all of Allah's creation, but Ar-Raheem, the attribute is only for the believers:
      And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful (Raheem).” [Qur’an, 33:43]
      Shaikh Uthaimeen mentioned in his sharh of Aqeedah al-wasitiyyah that some of Allah's attributes(love, anger, etc...) are causative. You would have to provide proof from Qur'aan, Sunnah, and/or ijmaa' that Allah "loves" the kuffar
