I'm reading the comments, and I'm like, 'wow, we're such a family, everyone is gonna fail and support each other'. I feel cozy.
Seriously the comment section on 99% of the videos on this channel are SO nice! I love it :)
I struggle not to laugh in public too! Or even have a creepy manic smile during sweet/cute parts... it is so awkward - but I love the books that make me do that. I am fine with it in the end- it keeps strangers from sitting next to me
I totally giggle like an idiot to cutesy stuff (when I like it :P) but I keep that for home haha
I will not complete my reading challenge too, 2019 is not being nice to me
2019 has been so rude honestly -_-
Same ☹️
Same!
"I couldn't resist, I look cute today" 🖤 Girl, you're smashing! I'm close to completing my reading challenge, but i've been in a reading slump for months, and being a mood reader isn't helping 😅 I hope you're having a smooth move! 😊
You look so cute with this hairstyle, love it!
You look so cute with the bangs 🥰
They really settled in now, looking super cute!
6:26 Mismatching covers are a crime against humanity.
You'll love my bookshelf tour when I finally do one ;)
Every year my goal is 12 books. One per month is plenty for me and most years I read more than that but not by much. It's my perfect rhythm haha
Loati same
This set up is one of my favourite types for book videos, can't beat some natural lighting ☺ I actually lowered my Goodreads goal for this year as I was starting to feel slumpish. So I've completed it and now I just read when ever I feel like it. Its made me love reading again. I still catalog my books to keep a track of what I've been reading though as I love seeing my stats at the end of the year ☺
Your hair and makeup are so nice! I love it !!
Honestly I tend to sort of cheat my goodreads goal. I'll start with a small reasonable number and increase it as the year passes. There's a chance that I'm gonna increase it again soon.
Idk why it feels like i'm cheating when I bring it down but it's fine when I increase it?! I usually start with 50 so 90+ is amazing lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox lol
I'm going to fail at my Goodreads challenge, too... I feel sad but hey I can try next year.
BTW you look so pretty with the bangs ❤️❤️❤️
I can't wait for your end of the year series!! btw I really love your bangs you look so pretty
You look so cute with bangs! And I love the messy shelves. It makes your books look so well loved as opposed to pristine and untouched.
I love your videos, they always make my day girl!
Also this video was wayyy more relatable than my reader self wanted it to be🙈🙈
Heyyy I do that too. Change my goodreads goal so I hit it by the end. I didn’t have to do that this year, but most years I do. I usually set it way ahead of where I am for most of the year, just as a motivator to keep trying to hit it, but then if it gets to December and I’m not even close, I’ll reign it in so I hit the number. I like having the badges that I can look back on to view my yearly reading, so I wouldn’t ever want to not have one of those for a year.
love the bangs! kinda loving the chaotic shelves too hahaha
great video ❤
I cannot wait for your end of the years series!
I’m seriously loving your bangs!
I'm not completing my reading challenge because I didn't set one! This is my first year back into reading, after five years of university completely shattering my will to do it, so I'm taking it slow this year. Next year though, I'm already thinking of a number and making plans.
PS: Your bangs are looking good!
I love the bangs on you, so cute!
As a senior bangs person (going on 8 years of bangs): blowdrying them makes all the difference, BUT I also find that dry shampoo creates foolproof bangs that are always perfectly tousled yet not weirdly frizzy or sticking out at weird angles. Give it a try one day you hate the way they look!
Also: I always set my goodreads challenge as a number that I will obviously be able to reach. Typically I always set it at 20. Because I want to know how many books I read in a year, but I don't care to push myself to read when I don't want to.
I totally blow dry them has soon as I'm out of the shower. I think my hair texture is making my life hard because it's pretty frizzy (especially at this time of the year!) I haven't tried dry shampoo yet because weirdly enough after 3 days they were still okay... I'll probably need that soon tho! :)
Love the natural lighting
I will fail, most likelly, I still have 13 or 14 books to read to hit it and mine is just 30 books, so you are not alone. And don't judge me, I love reading, but I am slow as hell... Love the bangs on you!
YOUR BANGS! 😍
I just moved and my shelves look exactly like yours. 😂
The bangs and natural light is a great look!
Your thumbnail is literally Jack Nicholson’s last scene from The Shining 👉🏼🥶❄️
It's spot on
He IS pretty handsome too :P
I love your bangs and this tag :)
I love your bangs!
I know you said you don't like your bangs, but I LOVE them! I feel like they really suit you! It's actually making me want to get bangs now haha
I've completed my GR goal twice already, having increased to 140 after hitting my initial 120 - it sounds like a lot, but I binge read a ton of short romance books during spring/summer which makes it seem more impressive than it is. Also, I bought Holy Sister as soon as it came out and still haven't read it...
I've already hit my GR goal because I don't aim that high - only 50 books, but I will fail some of my other reading goals :- D I kind of like the chaotic look of the shelves :- )
I actually love the look of messy bookshelves!
Your bangs look really nice like this!
Love the bangs on you
I loooove the bangs! You look amaizing
I've been on massive slump since 2016. I used to read 50-60 books a year. This year my goal is 10 and I can't even finish that lol
The bangs are looking great! And to think you were unsure of them... 😄 And aren’t we all failing at our goal? I don’t know about other people, but I put the same goal every year, and most years (except one) I miss the goal pretty dramatically. 🤣
I think I've lowered my reading goal like 3 times this year 😂
Thank you for listing the lipstick 😘
I love your attitude
Your hair looks great!
“i mean i’m already depressed” is the absolute biggest mood for picking a book to read.
I have finished my goal but that’s because it was only 20 books 😂 last year i was in a reading slump (ya, for the whole year) and only read books for school so i wanted to be easy on myself this year but then i actually started to read more so i’ll really have to up my challenge for next year!
Last time I cried while reading I was in an airplane, literally I was sobbing, what I was reading was so heartbreaking that I didn't care that I had an stranger beside me 💔😂
What were you reading? 😏
Yeah we need a name!
I was reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, although I had already seen the movies, reading the book was painful🥺
@@valeriamatamoroschav That is totally understandable. I cry every time I read that book.
Yes! Video on your recent quick reads books thats 200 or less pages 🙋🏻♀️
I won't be hitting my Goodreads goal at all this year 🤣 My goal was 100 books and right now I am sitting at 61 books, so I changed it to 60. The past few months I have been in a huge reading slump, so I am looking forward to your video about battling it!
Thumbs up for the bangs!
2019 has been a crazy year! So no, I won't be completing my goal
I feel a lot less alone... seems like 2019 has been rough for a lot of us!
I wasn’t going to finish my reading challenge, until you just told me I can change it mid year 😂
My GR goal is typically 104 per year. This year I cut it in half because I knew I’d be reading quite a few big books (Priory). I’ve passed that but I’m happy I chose a lower goal. Stress was off.
My goal was to read 60 books and keep my average page count to 500. I'm failing both now! 2 books behind schedule and 480 average x.x
I think this might be my first year actually reaching my goal. For the past 3-4 years I have been building back up my reading from the great reading depression aka uni and it finally feels good. It is still 24 books though :D
Dig the natural lighting👌🏻
It can only be used during the weekend now XD
There's never any sunlight lately lol
Your bangs look amazing! Everyone around me seems to be getting bangs and its making me want to get them too 🤔
I go from hating them to thinking they're cute so I can't help lol
I don't think I'll keep them super long because it's a lot of work already and I think my hair is too frizzy for them XD
i am "17 books behind schedule"...so i am also gonna fail GR reading challenge..I started my new job this year and its been crazy hectic..And I love your bangs😍
Your library costs $80? omg the ones here are all free! Guess I thought all libraries were like that. I did complete my reading challenges for the year though, which I'm happy about. I wrote out my resolutions for what I want to do next year as well :) that's always enjoyable!
I was inspired to reorganize parts of my shelves bc everything being in two rows bothered me so much. I had to move some (a lot of my manga) to a different room to do it but. It looks so pretty so I am proud.
My reading challenge is ... going well? I set it pretty low, aiming to read 40 books this year and I read 46 now. I still have to read about 5 books for uni too so. I am good. (I just read Lolita and now am reading American Psycho for class and omg ... I don't even know what to say about them. I seriously don't. I don't think I would've read them if they weren't for class.)
I also lowered my reading goal cause the last book I read put me in a horrible slump and the number was stressing me out. I don't see it as cheating, it's just me setting a realistic goal for myself.
But could I recommend trying out Tor novellas? They're short, mostly diverse and entertaining af, not to mention deliciously weird. I liked every single one I tried so far.
I'm about to hit my goodreads challenge, but the current books i'm reading (3 of 4 are being like meehh) I'm not caring for the characters but anyway i mean im about 60% on almost everyone so I'm suppose to finish them right? BTW your hair looks great!! and i'm waiting for the shelves re-organization video!!!
You always look cute but today you look adorable 😂😍
(Edit: I know this wasn't filmed today)
I have never hit my goodreads reading challenge, like ever, since I joined the network in 2014... But, fum fact, the reading challenge does not disappear if you don't complete it!
I also had 52 books for my reading goal but increased it when I reached it, however I won't be able to read a 100 books this year because life. Maybe next year ;)
Bangs look good!!!!
Haha I don't want to believe it just yet! I'll keep trying. I will yield on December 31st if I'm still not on #30.
You always look cute. I am continuously jealous of your look.
I'm only halfway my reading goal, and there is like 6 weeks left of the year sooo....RIP 😂😂
Same
Same here. Actually, I might be worse: Only read 33 of 75! Oh well... ;)
This is the first year I probably won't be completing my reading challenge :( kinda bummed out but I have been on a major book slump since last year basically.
I tend to reread books for series of they are shorter than like 300 pages and I really don't remember much which is rare anyway. For fantasy series though where the sequel will take over a year I have been taking notes actually. Or well writing summaries. It's been working out well so far. I always reread Stormlight every time a new book comes out though 🤣
I didn't hit last year's goal (reading slump issues + uni) but this year I did since I put it so low 😇😆
Top of the shorter books list has to be the murderbot diaries. It is seriously impressive how much story Martha wells has packed into
Emily, have you read The Night Strangers by C Bohjalian? It’s witchy- it’s also horror/thriller. I would call it a ghost story.
Last year I hit my goal of 200 books so this year I set it to 60 so there's way less pressure and because I got back into a lot of other hobbies especially sewing so I just haven't had as much time to read. I usually like my book series to match but it ultimately doesn't bother me. Each book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy I have is different from each other because I got them all secondhand and it's fine by me. I have a very limited budget (yay for paying student loans down) so I'm just happy when I can afford any edition of a book.
I feel you, ultimately it would be nice if they all matched but... they're books! I'm just happy to have them :D
How does that of paying for your library card works? Where I live library cards are free
My first goal was 25, I moved it to 40 and I’m at 37 so yesss! I’m doing my masters so it’s the worst of times, 2020 I’m planning to be more ambitious 😁
I hit my reading goal a few months back, but it was quit low in the first place (25 book aka 1 book per 2 weeks). My problem is that I read a lot during summer and February, but during school semester I donť read much. Thats what I want to work on in 2020.
You look extra beautiful in this video😍😍
Set it to 1. You will read at least one book. Bam you have completed your gr challenge.😂🤣
The picture holding the book thing sounds so intense. I lent out a book to my boyfriend's brother and got it back a little over a year later and he says "sorry I got coffee on it and dropped it in the bathtub" 🤣 I didn't care, I was just so happy he read one of my favorite books.
Reading goal was 56. Like to try do one a week. Have read ~75.
So I'm a psycho. Because I think I would WANT to cry in public over a book... I'd rather that than a real life cry... And maybe someone else would see the power that books bring... Plus it feels sooooo cathartic!
I completed my reading challenge about two weeks ago which is a 100 book but now I'm too bored and in a slump so I can't push myself through the book that I started 6 days ago even though it was fun and enjoyable I just don't want to read even though I have plenty of spare time
I think if you like alien encounter stories you’d like Sleeping Giants (the audio is amazing!) and likely An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (also great on audio!). I adored both. ^___^
And yay to failing goodreads challenges! I lowered mine from 100 to 60 this year, just cos I’ve been so busy. Life happens. 🤷🏼♀️
I've read both! Life definitely happened in 2019 :P
BookswithEmilyFox Aw heck, I’ll have to keep an eye out for recommendations that you haven’t read. 😂
I think i'm gonna complete my goal but i only put 25 books (i'm a slow reader and i only read physical copies).
Hold on, you have to PAY for your library cards? Where I live, our library cards are free and I have access to all the libraries in my county (around 15 total). All we pay for is the services like the wifi and printing. And because it's a county library card, if there's a library 3 towns that has a book I wanna check out, I can just go and check it out. No questions asked
Gaby Flores she probably means in the neighbouring region. I know for me there is about 10 libraries in my region ranging over 4 towns that I can access but if I wanted to go to Toronto which is only 30 mins away but technically a different region, I’d have to pay 40$ or so to get a library card from one of their libraries :)
I don't read fast enough to justify rereading the previous book so when the sequel comes out I try and read the last 50 or so pages and hope that this triggers enough of my memory. If I forget anything vital then my girlfriend will usually help when she reads it.
I'm not gonna make it to my goal so I'm going to "cheat" and read a couple children's books. 🤣
You are so beautiful in this video😍😍😍
I usually struggle with not laughing in public while I reading. Haha
Unpopular opinion: i love your bangs
Seems to be fairly popular in the comments... just not always in my head :P It's only been a week so I'm sure I'll like them fine soon enough (they're already growing on me!)
2019 was not a good reading year for me lol I like the messy selves ^^
I really like the messy look lol
idk if I'm just being lazy though :P
I posted this before but I still heard you say that you read on your phone and you said before that there was no way in Canada to connect your e reader to the library and I was wondering if you knew that the Kobo from Chapters can be connected to you library through the Overdrive app on it? Any e book that you sign out through your library through Overdrive automatically shows up in your My Books section on your Kobo. I use it all the time now and it is so much better than reading on my phone!
I have a Kindle now and I can go through a few hoops to get the library books on there but the ones I read on my phone are usually the "well I'm waiting at x place and have nothing to do might as well" books lol
I actually managed to complete mine but goodreads decided to stop adding the books I've read on my 2019 reading challenge *and* started messing up my reviews :(
Me too! I was scanning my to-read list and noticed several titles I have already read this year.
Are you in Quebec? Because I am in Calgary Alberta right now and I used to live in the lower mainland and I have never paid for a library card before.
Were you getting on from a different city? Bc that's why she has the yearly fees (also maybe hers is in a different province)
Usually cards are free only to your home library (your municipality or library system). If you get a card outside of your home library there is usually a fee. It is all about your taxes and which libraries they support.
(I am a library technician in the Edmonton, AB area)
I just started listening to audiobooks but playing like a simple game while doing it or scrolling through Instagram, I get distracted. How do I not miss out on info from the book while doing something else? Currently I’ve just been closing my eyes and listening and doing nothing else lol
katie I find it difficult to catch important info as well when doing work and I end up reading/listening to it again....
I listen to audiobooks while driving, walking my dogs, doing household chores, and online window shopping.
insta and games can be very distracting because your mind wants to focus on new info. I often listen to audiobooks while doing housework, running/walking, commuting, etc, which are tasks I can do pretty mindlessly. I think it also helps to get into audiobooks by listening to books/authors you've read before and whose writing you're already familiar with - I think the more you listen the more you're able to train your mind to listen while multitasking
I'm on 86 books out of 70 so I will have achieved my goal! However I would have liked to reach 100 but I just won't find the time. So many books to read 😭😭😭😭
Haha. Everyone is failing their reading challenge. Props to the ones that finish, but I only read like 60 books and I wanted to read 100
Guuurl! I f your not subcribed to the BAnQ (Bibliothèque et Archive nationale du Québec) yet, DO IT! The actual library is in montréal but anyone who lives in QC can become a member and access the online services FOR FREE! I love it and I've been reading so much more ever since I got my membership!
You got your surgery in Korea or did I misunderstand that?
I did - It's all on my beauty channel (Beauty with Emily Fox) :)
I often sob reading books..... so I just don’t read in public lol
I don't know what I would do without books/audiobooks in the bus XD
What kind of braces do you have? I can't see any braces at all!
They're Invisalign they're meant to be invisible :)
@@BookswithEmilyFox ahhhhhh, that makes sense then! They are definitely invisible 😊
I'm past my reading goal by two, but according to GR it's 17 because they count DNFs. So annoying!
Courtney Rodgers On the desktop version of goodreads you can make a DNF shelf and change the settings so that it’s the only shelf that book can go on :) this stops it from going on your read shelf and doesn’t add it to your challenge, obviously you just can’t mark the book as finished, instead just move it to the shelf
Hope this helps :)
@@nicolekane1341 Ooh thanks for the tip!
