If the aggregate passes the respective slot then it indicates that its size is less than 0.6 times the mean size which again indicates that the aggregate is flaky. Like this, each aggregate is passed through the respective thickness gauge slots. Flakiness Index = (Weight of the material passing through the various thickness gauge slots) ÷ (Total weight of the sample) Elongation Index: An aggregate is called elongated if its length is more than 1.8 times its mean dimension. Once the Flakiness test is done, the flaky aggregates are separated and on the remaining non flaky aggregates the Elongation Index experiment is carried on. Sieve analysis is done for the sample(excluding the flaky one) ( size of the sieve ranges from 50 mm to 6.3 mm) Each aggregate is passed through the respective slots of length gauge and the aggregate which wont pass through the slot is categorized as elongated aggregate, it indicates that its size is more than 1.8 times the mean size.
