I live in WA. In 92' I was 12 years old and a buddy who moved to CA mailed me a bootleg tape of the Opiate EP before Undertow came out. I've been in since then.
Maynard said that there is a difference between hate and anger, anger is a constructive emotion, hatred is not it's destructive and instead of acting out in violence they scream their heads off instead.
To your question: "What Tool song changed your life the most?". 'Pushit' off of the Salival limited edition album. The song is also on 'Aenima'. The first two albums are rockin', but 'Aenima' is otherworldly.
Hey, speaking of a "some people just need to get hit" kind of message, you should listen to Puscifer - "The Remedy". It's another band with Maynard as the lead singer, but it's definitely a different kind of sound. I think you'd really enjoy breaking down the lyrics for it.

Bought this album when I was 12 on 1992, it was the best investment I ever made. Then bought undertow which at the time only had a barcode for the cover and you had to send away for the actual album insert when it first came out. Good choice
Hmmmm the tool song that changed everything had to be the grudge in fact lateralus changed my world that whole album is just words fail me how much i feel about that album

My favorite song from this album.
🔥🔥🔥

Live version of push it is a must
Been here waaaaay before 20k. Love to hear your input my dude
Also, this dropped about 3.5 years before I was born. Glad I found it though
My dawg ✊🏿
Maynard said that there is a difference between hate and anger, anger is a constructive emotion, hatred is not it's destructive and instead of acting out in violence they scream their heads off instead.
I love the raw uncooked feel to each song on Opiate.
Good analysis lol fr fr
Love the breakdown in this song
I first heard Tool in 1994.
Great job you do tool the right way homie
Preciate that Brian 💯
From Australia. The Grudge changed it all for me. Picked up the Lateralus LP and that track blew me away.
I saw this tour in 1992 in Seattle and bought this EP at the show. Mind blown since! And.. I still have the ticket stub!
🔥🔥🔥
FAM before 10K. Listening to Tool since 1993.
Gapping lotus and hush are great on this album too bro. 20k
There he is
My dawg 🔥
Oh my god I fall of RUclips for 10 days and you do a Tool week? I have so much to catch up on.
Young Maynard is angry Maynard. Saw them in concert for the first time in 1992. Hooked ever since. 💪
🤘🏿🔥💪🏿
Sober made me think or change most this is my fav off opiate record

A lot of the live songs are out of necessity they had no money. This largely got them their deal
Fuckin'A I love this track!!!
This song is my go to when I need to rage out..top volume..drumming on my steering wheel til I feel lile I broke a finger.
Got me hyped too homey. You're hilarious though 🤣🤘

Heard Ænema on the radio in like 2000, found this album at the public library I don't think they knew what was on it.
Same for me, found Aenema in the bloody library!
You should check out a song by one of Maynard's other bands called Puscifer and the song is "The Remedy", I think you'll enjoy it.
Yooooooo. Your the only reactionist I seen do the opiate album. His pipes are 2nd to none.
🤘🏿🔥🔥
The Grudge changed my life as it is the first track from Lateralus.
Scott in MA from NC
Also check out "The Remedy" by Maynard's other band, Puscifer.
It reiterates this theme but in a more subtle fashion

those early Tool songs are real bangers...but i see you already discovered that!! you already took a listen to A Perfect Circle, Rah?
A Perfect Circle coming real soon 💯💯
@@RAHONLYFAM nice!
Reaches over locks door, yeah tool will play with you unconscious...
Tool is such a journey. The early anger, the evolution, and the new perspective. The most impactful for me personally are 46&2 and H.
Deepness
rock and metal was kind of already pushing into that direction before hip-hop started it but the parallel is hella there
also what is the song you performed in your intro called
Back in the day the pot and sober and really all Tool, Puscifer the remedy, Judith a perfect circle
If you're in the car to avoid copyright issues, smart move. Btw, Eulogy changed everything for me.
First one that actually made me listen for real was stinkfist
spiral out / keep going
🌪🌪🌪
#20K
💯
When i got undertow n thought i got there first cd found out later nope opiate. Was thwre first
We dont condone violence but hey man sometimes some people do just need a kicking
So raw that Gordon Ramsay would yell about it in the kitchen.
Hey be sure to listen past the very long silence part of Opiate for the bonus at the very end of the song.

I became a fan in '93. I'm not OGT.
This is a fantastic fuckin break-down of the song, lol.
Hmmmm the tool song that changed everything had to be the grudge in fact lateralus changed my world that whole album is just words fail me how much i feel about that album
Maynard was really mad at someone.
It was always some unlucky bastard in the back of the room.
Toolarmy
Awesome lyrics. Consequences dictate my course of action. It doesn't matter what's right it's only wrong if you get caught.
Schism, Pushit bot are on my "stay-list"
93' headbangers ball (mtv) sober reeled me in. Ruined regular music forever
Allmost seems like he dnt beleive in karma from these lyrics fr fr
