YOU DIDNT NEED TO CUT THE HARNES!! Just re-pin the existing harness/Plug. All you have to do is get a rather sharp pin, go in through the front (sometimes through the rear), Hold down the locking pin and pull the wire & pin out of the plastic plug......... Then slide the new one into the existing plug............

I've actually had success superglueing fan blades back on, it's fiddly and you need something like a soldering helping hand to hold the blade in place while the glue sets, but I've done it on fans that have worked fine several years afterwards.

I own this card. When I first started the card up, I heard some odd pump sounds. But once it was situated and left alone (not turned over for instance) I don't hear a pump at all. I haven't pushed it to it's limits yet so I can't say about the fan. But using moderate overclock settings, it's not audible over case fans. I can hear it when I force the fan to 50% or higher, but 50% has never been necessary for me yet. Without touching voltage my card OC's to about 1530 before I have issues. Hoses are very stiff and are quite short. The backplate does get pretty hot despite the rad pulling lots of heat away from the die. It's been hot enough that I can't really touch it. But I'm very happy overall. It runs my x34 predator on late gen games highest settings.

+neko77025 The first time I got my hand caught in a fan was a delta fan. I was doing some cable management on the PC as I noticed a loose cable as it was booting.... the next thing I knew it felt like a hammer blow to my middle finger, It cut straight to the bone. And then to add insult to injury motehrboard starts squawking about a fan failure. The fan was just fine, and I still run it, but now with no cables near by so that I cannot possibly have a reason to go near it.
A note, that was only the one that pulled two amps at load ( something like 2500RPM). the 4 amp 252 CFM fan would probably break my finger as well.

I later got FFB1212EH would be its baby bro only 150 CFM .. but when I unpacked it .. it had all kinds of warnings on it showing chopped off fingers and broken bones .. I WAS LOLing so hard when i seen them stickers.
I damaged A PCI-E 6 pin that went into the FFB1212EH ... was not use-able after that (the cable) they fan still works tho.
They are crazy fans, for everyone who has not used one .. look them up on youtube .. they sound like A vacum cleaner.

I'd love to see a 390x with a custom PCB with a dual 8 pin + 6 pin with a water block that also cools the VRM and memory. it's neat seeing more Maxwell cards that are IMHO over engineered but almost all the 390x I've seen people OC have ran into what seem to be power delivery limits and improper VRM cooling.

i know this is old now but still relevant for people buying used, the gig xtremes also came with xoc bios mode and a little button to put it into this state as well as an extra 6 pin power connector allowing the full 1.274v , also raised powertarget to 130% and base clocks , under oc these consistantly hit 1575mhz on lowest bin and up to 1650 mhz on best bin using the factory oc bios on water which put it well ahead of all the competition, alas was too late to the party and too close to 10 series launch to really get the recognition it deserved .

Got 2 EVGA 980 TI Hybrids SLI in mine (runs Fire Stike Extreme @ 15390) . No pump noise, but sometimes you hear water sluch around (my rads are top mounted). The EVGA versions have fans with connectors outside of the card housing (so on the wire), replacing them is easy as unplugging them. I have mine running of a NZXT Grid+ controller. Waterblocks are on the way to go full EK custom loop.

    • @CelmorSmith

+Aimela I'm getting the card and gonna try to set the fan speed independently from the pump speed to 0% and just cram it in a corner inside my case, put on a NF-F12 and control it via the motherboard.
If that doesn't work even with a modified BIOS I'm gonna cut the cable.

Lack of modularity on the fan seems like a general dealbreaker. Issues like having to partially deconstruct or RMA just to replace a fan don't seem worthwhile if the performance is still so similar in most regards to air cooled cards. The idea seems really neat, but the nonstandard fan connector, when competitors are going standard, just looks troublesome.

Cool video Jay . I was wondering how hot my loop should get during a normal gaming load , its interesting to learn that a simple 120mm rad and GPU loop runs a similar temp to Skunkworks with 3 GPU's and larger rads. My loop has 2 GPU's and a CPU in the same loop with 2 rads a 140mm and a 420mm and I get similar temps while gaming usually between 45c and 50c , nice to know this is fairly normal.

I just cut my hand on my GPU fan not too long ago fan blade broke too and it's a powerlogic too. Cost me a pretty penny to replace it.

I feel you Jay! I accidentally put my finer near my 230mm top fan.... The balade did not fall off but instead it buried 1 cm down in my finger.... That seriously hurt, like some one took a hammer and bashed with full force, then took a razor and cut it open :S My first computer

Noob question, but couldn't you just have popped off the fan blades and replaced just them? Really good video, thanks Jay. I actually like the raw industrial look of the card without the juvenile looking shroud.

I definitely prefer the extreme aircooled card, the rgb ring around the fans are pretty and something different from the usual!

I love how the card itself looks (just peel off the sticker), but I can see the tubing is too short for plenty of configurations. Also, soft tube would be a nice touch at least aesthetically. Other than that, it's a great looking card (performance-wise, it's a 980ti with a custom pcb, nothing spectacular).

I really liked this video Jay, if I had the cash I would go out and buy this specific edition of the 980ti over the rest thanks to you :)

Yeah sometimes if the fan blade is oriented a certain way, they can turn into Jack the Ripper on your finger. Had the same thing with one of my fans.

I know your pain Jay. I've been cut by a fan before too. And it was an 80/60 mm fan on 12 volts. Not fun. Was for nothing too, those fans were meant for a robot but never went in anyway.

You should stick to one idea per video. "Will blood work to cool your GPU?" is probably interesting enough to have it's own video without encroaching on this one. ;)

@JayzTwoCents cant you just pull the fan blade off the spindle for a quick swap? i think mnpctech shows that on a vid for painting the fans. May not be able to do with ball bearing fans tho I dont know was just a thought....

    Was i lucky?

Must be good glue but probably screws up the balance of the fan and reduces life-spawn, still better than a broken fan though.

    • @HulsterHulse
      @HulsterHulse 8 лет назад

i didn't know they came off and was wondering why my case rocking around and the fan had clipped the fan filter.
I think what helped was that it was a clean brek

I know its hard to get a standard tube length cause it's hard to meet every usage case, but those tubes and rad look so short for orientation/placement etc...

Good luck with the move! And this card does not appeal to me at all. It is probably the plastic shroud, and then the fan replacement issues.
