I'll be doing this tomorrow because my 980 hit 94 Celsius!
Thanks to you, now I can maybe give it one more chance.
    Very nice video.

@@uFixTek I cleaned it really good with a 1 inch long soft bristle paint brush like bob ross, having a vacuum nearby pulling out all the dust, blew it (not using canned air)
Used Arctic MX-6 thermal paste, and Arctic 1mm thermal pads. Double stacked the pads after cutting them out according to the etches/dimension visible in the metal frame. Since it was close to 1mm, but when smashed it needed 2mm. Went with a full cover of thermal paste since the MX-6 is very thick like peanut butter.
Temperatures are incredible. Using CPUID HWMonitor My GPU has not went over 70c, and the hotspot will not go over 80c. It idles in 30's. .
Again thank you very much for the video. 🥰

awesome job my friend 🫠 now that you know how to service those GPUs , you should be doing it once every year depending the temps and dirtiness.
      enjoy the fresh serviced GPU🍻

Great video, one question. Is it safe if a bit of thermal pad is also on another component, for example I cut the thermal pad for VRMs but a little bit of it is covering a capacitor.

Regarding your question, it is absolutely fine and even better, no need to worry of the excess of pad touching other components.

I have the exact same gpu that I have just started to use in another computer, I have seen that the temps have been getting very very high. (hotspot hit 104c and main hit about 95c) do you have links to the thermal pads you used? I don't know which ones are good or bad. Very useful video too!! Thanks

I just cleaned a 980ti that came out of a roach infested house and oh my God what a nightmare. I used a quarter gallon of iso alcohol.
I just soaked the whole heatsink in a container of ISO and sprayed it off with a garden hose lmao.
Good results afterwards. Temps are down 10c, fan speed hasn't gone past 1500rpm even under heavy load.
The previous owner also had no clue that less is more with thermal paste.
But hey, It works buetiful and I only paid 100$

Does thermal pad hardness really matter if it's the correct thickness?

🫠Regarding your question, if you reaching 90c on load then sure do a repaste and it should be on mid 75-85c.
use a good thermal paste like: thermal grizzly kryonaut extreme: amzn.to/3Uvg9Pm
