Thank you for the question. Microsoft changes their apps on the Chrome store often. In fact, once one of their apps is installed, you will have access to your Microsoft drive, that has links to all of the Office apps.
I'm a bit confused. I have an Acer Chromebook but found that some documents were read only ie limited access. Storage is always flashing up as low, too, even though I'm using a Dongle. So I just bought Microsoft 365 but as I don't use Excel or Powerpoint (and am unlikely to do so) could I have managed with the free version? I use Chrome OS and don't have Windows. I've gone back to studying so am anxious to get a good Word programme.
I use the free version and I do not find any documents that were read only. I do save my documents on local storage, as well as in the cloud, yet I have not used up the cloud storage. I also use Goggle Docs to open and edit my MS Word documents, often as it has all of the formatting tools as you can see in my computer class videos, where I instruct my students on how to get the most out of Google Docs.

Would you PLEASE recommend a Chromebook that can manage those powerful apps online. I'm clueless when it comes to the Chrome option. You are not responsible in any way for my purchase. However, which one would you recommend or the system requirements that are mandatory for a pleasant work experience. I love your videos & teaching style. I'm a subscriber. Thanks SO much! 💛
In truth any Chromebook with 8GB of RAM and a faster Intel CPU, should work well. I used the CB715 to create videos, now I am using an HP14a with a slower CPU and I do notice the difference in performance. So I recommend a Chromebook with an Intel core i processor, 8 GB of RAM . Other options to be aware of are storage capacity, but I use ext storage when creating videos, so it is not a game breaker. The CB715 with an Intel Core i processor, 8 GB RAM should do the job as long as you have fast internet..

Whenever I'm on the online version of office, if I try to open Word for example, OneDrive pops up and then says "Yo need to have the app installed". I don't understand why this happens :/ Ty for the video ❤
See if you have the Office extensions by clicking on the puzzle piece found in the top right hand side of the browser. When you click on the grey puzzle piece, a pull down menu should appear. Office should be one of the options. If you click on the blue pin next to the "Office" icon, then it should pin the apps to the top of the browser. You may then open the apps that way.
So regardless of Microsoft not supporting Excel, I’m 100 percent able to download it on a new chrome book I purchase? It’s for work and I’m worried it won’t work.
It still doesn't look the same as the original version from windows, mac or Microsoft laptops. There are not all tools such as ''add citation'' on reference or recording audio/video straight in PowerPoint.
Have you tried changing the options in the "view" tool? I still see the tools when I just opened the app on my Chromebook. Be sure that the app is set to edit and not just view, as that will also hide the tools.
i think i have exact the same Chromebook as you have but i have problems adding the apps word and excel. I get the message: Device not compatible (but than in Dutch)
That Chromebook should work well. I just looked up the model number and it has the Chrome Web Store. Do you find the Chrome web store on your Chromebook? Also, to see the link to the apps, you may click on the puzzle piece found in the upper right hand corner of the browser, and then click on the Microsoft Office icon, found there. It will open and show all of the Office apps, if you do not have icons in your App launcher.
I get the same thing not available for Chrome os. I also have an issue of the word documents being converted to Google docs is there a fix for this or can I delete Google docs all together?
I use both Word and Google Docs back and forth for my work, without any issues. Please try the online version of MS Word and see if it works. It should work. If it is still giving you problems, I will be here to help.

Hi, thanks for your video. I purchased a Acer Spin 311 Chromebook. However, while opening office, say word, it direct to onedrive to create the file but returned "Can't open, file may be corrupted." Going to Onedrive directly, the file is found and created. So, I click the file at Onedrive, it can open but it is read only, meaning the word environment at has no upper tab "File, Insert, Design, Layout, .. etc" But it won't be happen and go normal if I used Windows 10 / 11. After watching your video, I follow your guidance and installed via Chrome Web Store for Office, Word online, Excel online. After all, the issue is still the same "File cannot be open, may be corrupted" and the file is here but read only (look like the word online is reader). I am not Office 365 subscriber, do you have any tips or idea? Many thanks.
Update: I just found the issue behind. Since I installed OneDrive app on the Chromebook. The default file manager show underneath OneDrive is "READ ONLY". Then, I uninstalled this app and try the above again. The issue is resolved and the file is editable. Can it be possible with OneDrive App installed but make the file Not "READ ONLY"? Thanks.
I know that Microsoft has a limitation of files being 'read only' on devices larger than 10.1 inches. I normally only use the web version of Microsoft for that reason. . Im a high school student and I am doing K12 Online School. I am in a Microsoft class and I have a Chromebook so my Microsoft is different. I have not been able to get it to work so I was trying to find a video to help. I did what you did but on any app when I click on creat new, it says that it can not do that right now and tells me to try opening one from one drive but when I click that it just sends me to the same place and does the same thing.
As this is merely the Online app, not the Desktop version, you will be missing a lot of features in MS Word. And even if you go premium, you will still be missing advanced features, like the Developer mode tab, which would enable you to program the app to your liking and add in custom stuff. If you are the typical office/student/work user, then Chromebook will be good enough. But if you are more into the Developer/Programmer side of things and you want more bang for your buck, I think a Windows OS, Mac OS or Linux OS will do much better than Chrome OS. They all have administrator privileges, but Chrome OS doesn't allow administrator privileges.
Interesting take on that. You make a valid point about the limitations of using an online app version of Microsoft Word compared to the desktop version. The desktop versions do indeed offer a wider range of features and customization options, including the Developer mode tab you mentioned, which is particularly useful for those with programming or development needs. For users whose primary tasks revolve around office work, studying, or everyday computing, Chromebooks can be a cost-effective and efficient choice, especially with their focus on simplicity and cloud-based applications. However, if you require advanced capabilities, administrator privileges, or a more versatile environment for programming and development, then Windows, Mac, or Linux operating systems might be more suitable, as they provide greater flexibility and control over your computing environment. The choice ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences, balancing convenience with functionality. Thank you for sharing your insights on this matter!

Yes. I do. I use this method and I make new documents.
Yes. It is possible to create new blank docs this way. In fact, in the video, it shows the option called "New Black Doc" right when you first open the Word extension app. I just did it and it shows it on the first screen when it opens.

The first method is free, but it does need a network?
Yes. Microsoft changed their apps a few years ago. They are used online. But Google Docs, sheets, etc, can be used offline on the Chromebook, as seen in my other videos on the topic. Both MS Office and Google Drive are free and can create, edit, and share MS word documents.
With this first method, I am not getting the office extention at all when I search the webstore. Is there an update I should follow?

Does this support the Microsoft Editor feature? How about its Document Stats and percentage passive voice sentences, a key writing improvement tool.
Thank you for the questions. Yes, It supports editing and has all of the tools as you can see in my other videos on this topic. I use Google Docs more now, as it works offline on my Chromebook and I do use the Stars features, to let me know word count, etc. I use the Active voice assistive writing feature as it can help detect the passive voice in a phrase or sentence and replace it within Docs for free. For MS Word on a Chromebook, goto, Review, Editor, Review Tools to find the option. You will need to sign into your 365 account to activate Percentage Passive Voice.

Hello Mr. Berry need some help here, so I have watched the video and followed your instructions. However when I go to, Chrome Web Store to add office, I am not seeing "office" what I am seeing is " Office-enable copy and paste", however when I scroll further down I can see word, excel and powerpoint as you have shown in the video. Why am I not seeing "Office".
Thank you for the question. Microsoft changes their apps on the Chrome store often. I have the free Microsoft Office app on my Chromebook, but you may install Word, Excel, and Powerpoint independently to get the same result. In fact, once one of their apps is installed, you will have access to your Microsoft drive, that has links to all of the Office apps.

You are correct. No Themes. I never used themes, as I created my own templates.
@@selmateacher7 is there no way to get themes? I am taking a college course and I don’t have full access to all of word.
@@haileyboyd9946 I'm curious, as well. I'm debating a chromebook for my master's courses but need full access to Word.

Hello again! I have a question & need your expertise! LOL Although I have a PC, I think I would like to try a Chromebook for the first time. I have Microsoft 365 but just purchased the Creative Cloud Photography Subscription that includes Photoshop. I do a lot of work in Photoshop.

Hi, thanks for your video. I purchased a Acer Spin 311 Chromebook. However, while opening office, say word, it direct to onedrive to create the file but returned "Can't open, file may be corrupted."
Going to Onedrive directly, the file is found and created. So, I click the file at Onedrive, it can open but it is read only, meaning the word environment at has no upper tab "File, Insert, Design, Layout, .. etc"
But it won't be happen and go normal if I used Windows 10 / 11.
After watching your video, I follow your guidance and installed via Chrome Web Store for Office, Word online, Excel online.
I would advise you to ask your instructor as he.she would know of any restrictions that the school has imposed on that school chromebook.
Once Ms. Office is installed, can it be used while the Chromebook is offline?
Not for that app. but Google docs works offline and can save the work as MS docs.
