The reason the barrier didn’t lower was because you did not touch the key. When you died and respawned at the checkpoint, you touched the key.

They are. I have most of the MIUM (Apple Arcade Marble It Up Mayhem) ones, they can be easy or seemingly impossible
4:03. 6:18 there's a sphere in a cube at the top of a wall that you missed entirely... guess it's not a key though ...
That’s an Easter egg. They’re hidden throughout every main level in MIU, and grabbing them unlocks a new marble you can play as.
