    This part of the game hurt my soul because you have to come to understand that Avery's treasure was all Sam had ever known and hoped to achieve, and while Nathan had the chance to move on, Sam had not. Seeing him realize maybe for the first time that he was in the wrong just breaks my heart.

      The look on his face just as Nate told him to give it up shows just how much he was hurt. All Sam wanted since his childhood was to find Avery’s treasure with Nate and 13 years of his life were wasted because he paid for someone else’s crime, when he was finally out Nate gave the treasure hunting up. Sam never had the chance to move on like Nate did so it must’ve been really hurtful for him to hear that from his brother.

    I love how Nate's character is changed in this game. When he finally find the Avery's treasure, there is no satisfaction in finding it, he just walks by the gold and want to save Sam. Like he says later "After all, you just have to decide what you want to keep and what you want to let go." And Sam in the end must walks Nate's path of the adventurer, because couldn't do it for years. It's a paradox, Nate is the younger brother but Sam is on the journey that Nate took already in the past. Sam somewhat symbolises Nate's younger self.

  • @aslightlydisappointingsala8708

    It's sad honestly...
    Sam's always been jealous of Nate's achievements and he's been locked up so long and missed out on so much stuff. This is what Sam wanted. He just wanted to catch up and try and regain the adrenaline he lost. He just couldn't bring himself to tell the truth, he just wanted his brother and him to get back to the way they used to be because Sam is stuck on the past and blames himself for everything. Now I look at Sam now, blood dying his whole arm red for Nate, broken nose and a blood wound from a gun hit on his forehead and I can't feel anything but sympathy for the poor guy :(

    • @VisualiseTheFun
      @VisualiseTheFun 7 лет назад +77

      I never got the impression that Sam was Jealous of Nate, that was Rafe. Sam just wanted to finally get a taste of the glory that he had sacrificed so much for.

    • @aslightlydisappointingsala8708
      @aslightlydisappointingsala8708 7 лет назад +26

      VisualiseTheFun, Although Rafe was jealous of Nate, so was Sam according to his description on his Wikipedia page as well. And the reason you never got the impression Sam was jealous is because he hides it well so he doesn't look like an asshole about it. He worked so hard to find Avery's treasure just so he could say he actually found something after being locked away for 15 years while Nate found more lost cities. It makes sense why he'd want to glorification, but barely just that. All Sam wanted was to find the treasure with his brother just like when they were young.

    • @Demowan
      @Demowan 6 лет назад +36

      I think that the topic of brotherly jealousy is a classic. If Sam was indeed jealous, it was involuntary. It was never the same kind of jealousy that Rafe felt towards Nate. It was simply the will to leave his print on history like his little brother. Beholding such achievements as those of Nathan Drake, one can only get a little envious, especially if one happens to be a treasure hunter.

    • @shotbro4998

      A Slightly Disappointing Salad
      It’s more of a brotherly competition than jealousy. I should know. My brother and I r pretty much exactly the same personalities as Nathan and Sam. There’s no jealousy there. Henry Cavill’s Wikipedia page once said he died on 5th March, so it’s not a very reliable source lol. U can c Sam is happy for Nate’s achievements and he just wanted to finish what they started as children. If he was jealous he would be trying to screw him over. That simply wasn’t the case

      Just the moment when Nate told him that they weren't kids anymore and that they didn't have to prove anything to anyone... The acting is amazing because Sam just acts like it's nothing and can't look at Nate in the eyes and just randomly asks Sully where's the plane. Seeing this breaks me because it feels like he wants to cry.
      I'm saying this because this is what I do, when something I don't want to admit makes me cry, I try to pretend I don't really care and change of subject very fast...

    You have to think about it from Sam’s perspective. While Sam was in jail Nate accomplished so many goals and did things that most people wouldn’t think were possible. Sam’s only desire was to make a mark of his own with his brother

    • @aboveall9521

      not entirely accurate, sam is nathans former self. this was a contention between two different coins that wanted the same thing, but took two conflicting courses to get there. nathan has grown and experienced more than just the "wealth and fame" of treasure hunting, while all sam wanted was to achieve their mothers work together with his little brother

    This scene hits like a ton of bricks and makes me tear up for Sam. This is more then just being rich and his obsession and thrill for the hunt, but about his mother. Nate and Sam’s mother died not being able to achieve and complete her expedition. He wants to achieve this with his brother so he can honor his mother in death and not let everything she has done be a waste and in vain. Sam does not want everything her mother sacrificed for him and Nate be for nothing. Everything Nate and Sam do as treasure hunters is not for riches, but to honor their mother. So powerful and sad. Brilliant stuff

      and it mirrors the later scene where Rafe tries to use the deaths of most of Nadine's men (killed either by Team Drake or Libertalia's booby traps) to guilt her into going onto Avery's booby-trapped ship with him even though what's left of Shoreline already has plenty of treasure from the caverns and can escape with their lives.
      Rafe: If you cut and run right now, the loss of all your men, EVERYTHING that we've done... is for nothing.
      Nadine: We have MILLIONS in gold (gestures to the chest) right here. I say that plus our lives is "something".

    I actually like how Sam is portrayed as basically how Nate would be had he not met Elena or Sully and continue treasure hunting. Nate grew over time because he met Sully and Elena both of whom helped ground him (mostly Elena)
    But Sam was stuck in prison fr 15 years because of Rafe and basically robbed of the life he loved and the only life he knew treasure hunting. So when he finally got out that obsession and drive which only grew during his imprisonment kicked into overdrive and that made him pretty reckless.
    It’s all the more true when Nate actually tells Sam that he’s wrong when he says Elena and Sully don’t get the obsession because they actually do and had seen the same obsession before in Nate in the previous games.
