Gold was a grower for me and I think it’s really good now. I like it as the initial title track with Lia being back because it is very triumphant and a sort of “!” to them being five again. Once they were able to re-establish that it kind of blew the door open for Imaginary Friend to hit as hard as it does w/o it feeling like a tacky way of capitalizing on the absence and reentry of Lia. Also glad to have found your guys’ channel! Twice is my ult group as well. Can’t wait to see the rollout of their upcoming mini with you ✊🏽
This song reminds me of Mr. Vampire a lot. Both tracks were not the main promotional title, but both were better than the title track, and both tracks were more of a ballad. In typical JYP fashion, all five members of ITZY have beautiful vocals and I think ballads suit them better than regular pop songs. I also gave this one a 5!
Imaginary Friend IS a promotional title. Gold and Imaginary Friend are both title tracks and have their own album cover version that you can choose from
I recognize that when the OP says “JYP,” they’re probably referring to the company rather than the man, but I wanted to go on a tangent and touch on the mentions of ballads and “typical JYP fashion.” JYP (the man) wasn’t involved in writing/composing either “Imaginary Friend” or “Mr. Vampire,” but during his “No.1 x 50” concert segment talking about the creation of Twice’s “Feel Special,” he does specifically say that he usually writes songs as ballads first and then later turns them into dance songs.

Yes I was referring to JYP the company, but "typical JYP fashion" refers to the company developing their vocal talent first and foremost and nothing to do with how they create or develop songs. I strongly believe that ballads and slower songs that emphasize the group's vocal talents suit the girls better.
@@iPoorman You are correct that my post was not *directly* related to your thesis, but rather one of *indirect* relation, using the phrases of "typical JYP fashion" and ballad" as the common nexus point from which my post was inspired to diverge onto its own tangent/branch of thought.
I think that when the English version of Imaginary Friend was released, Apple Music said that the song was about the parasocial relationship we as fans have with kpop idols. That's why they keep repeating they are our "Imaginary Friends" and they will keep us safe and dreaming but in contrast the song and mv look cold almost sad, having an imagery of the girls running in circles, being hurt and trying to stop the bleeding without succeeding, being scared and harmed by shadows that can't touch them but the itzy girls can feel them, the girls trying to cover lia's eyes at the end, a butterfly pinned to a wall, so beautiful and still so we can see it carefully but so in pain at the same time. Actually Lia herself said that we as fans get to decide if imaginary friend is a good thing or not. Absolutely stunning, not many songs in kpop invite to reflect about how we consume our favorite idols.
Just my opinion, I think for ITZY title tracks JYPE first and foremost gives ITZY stage ready songs, given they are a performance-based group. I just ran into your channel today so I’m not sure if you’ve ever been to a concert, but if you’ve been you’ll know every ITZY title goes hard live, yes even sneakers and cake. I will also bet GOLD will thrive live too. I think what a a lot of casual listeners want from ITZY tt is for them to follow music trends. That’s never been them. The b sides are their gems but a lot of casuals don’t dive past the tt so theyre missing out. They’re going into their 6th year so their contract is expiring. Unless it’s renewed, this is pretty much the ITZY experience and I don’t think JYPE cares about growing the fan base

VAY is my workout song and Imaginary Friend is my road trip song. It has a 80's vibe especially the dance breaks. It made me feel nostalgic.
