skycedi hi, what a treat. Your mom is adorable. I am glad she got to go back to her home country. I still want to try the black bean noodle dish I heard it was good. Wow koreans eat pig feet like some blaq americans did/do.
Where's The LOVE button here?! Your Mom is so beautiful. I just love her reaction and expression after coming back in 40 years. I would love to see more of your Mom. Thank you for sharing.
Please post more videos of your mother. She's beautiful, it is so wonderful that she had the opportunity to return to her home land, God bless you Skycedi and your mother... I would love to see more videos of her experience!
Thank you so much Mika! I think my mom is super cute too haha. I'm so glad that you watched the video and i'm happy to share my experiences with my mom through the video.
I am a Korean-Canadian translator that came across this completely by chance, and I would like to say your mom has the old-school Seoulite accent. My mom also does, but it is very hard to come by these days, because most of the population in Seoul now is not originally from Seoul. My father was from Gunsan and my in-laws are from Gyeongsang and Gangwon provinces. Most of what you hear from the current generation of Seoulites is an amalgam of southern accents+Seoul accent, and this is what is currently known as 표준어 (Standardized Korean). You would be surprised at how rare this old-school Korean is -- it's so rare now that only people that recognize it are those whose parent or grandparent is from Seoul. You should check out some videos here on RUclips that talk about 서울사투리, and notice (if you are keen enough) that it resembles NK accent a lot more way back when.
It would probably be reasonable to suspect that the old school Seoul accent or "south Korean" accents Pre Korean War and North Korean dialect resembled each other since the countries were one in the same until about 60yrs ago. Ive watched south Korean documentaries where a North Korean was ashamed when he first came to Seoul because they could recognize his accent as North Korean and he couldn't get a job or anything until he finally learned the South Korean dialect
So interesting to hear your mom's experience of coming back to Korea! So many things have changed in Korea, but I agree that food is such a big change. Even Hugh, being born in the early 80's, remembers there being times of not much food. It was so much harder for his family to eat meat compared to now. You can see the difference now with the height of the new generation too, better nutrition and a much bigger range of food available results in taller people.
Thank you for watching Nichola! Yes, definitely. There were many foods that are popular or prevalent in Korea now that were either non-existent or non-mainstream just a few decades ago according to my mom. Crazy how fast Korea has evolved. I’m sure Hugh has many stories of the changes he experienced too.
I slightly disagree with you. I also spent my childhood in the 80s. So, as far as I remember, the 80s was the time when the majority of Korean popluation entered into the middle class. So, there wasn't any shortage of food. People had enough food and did not suffer from food shortage or hunger. That problem has already been settled by the early 70s. However if you meant that there wasn't that much varieties of food like today, then yes. Now we have much wider range food as food industry has developed into another level. But still, even in the 80s, people could enjoyed meat (definitely not as much as today maybe). I still vividly remember that my family would go out to eat samgyupsal and galbi sometimes and it was affordable.
@@raul8401 I wasn't talking about food shortages like famine, I was talking about less accessibility and definitely less meat. This is my husband's personal experience and the experience of a vast amount of lower income families in the 80's. They couldn't afford meat regularly and he remembers eating eggs for protein instead. The biggest evidence is the height of his generation, if he'd had better nutrition in his childhood, he would be taller. Now the younger generation grows up with much better food and they are taller. People like to assume that everyone is now "middle class" in Korea but there are still many people living below the poverty line even now, especially in rural areas. Not everyone's experience is the same. My comment was about his experience and the experience of those who were in a similar socioeconomic situation in the early 80's. A lot can change in one decade as well, no doubt by the end of the decade there would be cheaper meat available.
@@raul8401 You have to take account for the societal changes that happened in Korea was at an astronomically fast, but at a really compressed way. Imagine pulling someone from the 1880s America to 2018, literally the same thing that happened to skycedi 's mom... facets of modernity like urbanization, rapid changes in technology, industrialization, etc was integrated over a span of 100+ years in the west, whereas Korea experienced that within a span of decades...
@@ShacklefordR I surely do know the Korean modern history since I am a researcher of the Korean modern history myself. I wasn't talking about skycedi's mother's experience in Korea in this video. I was talking about the comment written by MKH. I guess you got confused:)
your mum is like a kid in disneyland! i love how excited she was 😊 every year i go back its changing so much since my childhood, sad & happy at the same time. ❤️
Yes, she was super excited while she was here and it made me so happy to see that. Korea changes so quickly that it is hard to keep up, even after being away for one year even. Thank you for watching.

It was so nice to see you and your mom walking on the streets of Seoul and your mom amazed like a little girl. Of course I want to see more videos with your mom. I think your mom was twice happy, being with you and in her home country. You made it happen. So great!
I absolutely loved this video! Seeing your mom's face as you two were out and getting her reaction to the many changes she saw was great. I'd love to see more videos of you and your mom. Thank you for sharing her with us. 😊
Your mom's reactions were priceless. I couldn't help but laugh out loud when she described pressing imaginary brakes to slow down while riding in the back seat!
I literally cried seeing your moms reaction to seeing Korea again! She's so shocked and happy. I can totally see the adoration in her eyes for the growth of her home country
I was teaching English back in 1999 I'm sure Seoul has changed a lot even since then. Before then the last time i visited was in 1987. Seoul has really really changed since then. I can completely see how much it's changed from your mom's point of view. Back in the early 80's Seoul was really more of a large town as opposed to the metropolis it is today. I loved seeing your mom's reaction and can completely see my mom saying the same things as she grew up in Seoul and worked in dong dae moon as a seamstress back in the days.
Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that you experienced quite a bit of change from being away for decades at a time. Korea seems to evolve at a super fast rate. I'm sure our mothers can really relate with one another with their respective experiences as well.
It was nice watching your mother as she travel back to Korea it’s always shocking when you leave and then you go back things do change nothing remains the same you’re blessed with such a sweet mother

항상 어머님 사진 나올때마다 느끼지만 어머님이 정말 미인이셔요. 그야말로 "고우셔요" 일부러 한국어로 씁니다^^ Cedi 한국어 목소리도 짱~ㅋㅋ
Your Korean is really good! So I am so impressed your interview with your mom.
Your mom has that "it" factor about her. A very enjoyable watch.
So glad to see her! She’s such a a sweet lady & so amazing that you were able to capture those moments. I’m sure if I went there with my mom, the reaction would’ve been the same! Tell her we miss her!!
I'm happy that you had the chance to watch this! I'll relay the message! I'll do my best to get our moms reconnected again as well :)
Beautiful video. She looked utterly culture-shocked in an ironic way while walking around.
세드릭 어머니 모습이 보기 좋아요! 미국에서 행복함 삶은 사신것 같아요.
Your mom is such a special person, you are so blessed to have her!~~
이게 웬일이냐ㅎㅎ

I am korean who lives aboard but going back every 6months to Seoul, but I do the same reaction as your mum did :) certainly dynamic korea! 6
