- Evan came to Korea as an exchange student and ended up working in Korea. His parents are coming to Korea for the first time from Canada to see their son. As Evan lives in a one-room apartment-a common type of house in Korea, his parents are quite confused by the small size of the house, which is unheard of in Canada.

his mother has such a beautiful smile
wow his parents look so chilll, lucky guy you are Evan
I feel like Korean shows are too focused on the appereance of people. I feel sorry for all people that don´t look as good as the people portrayed in this show.
Facts!!
Why would you feel sorry? Working on appearances is one of many things people should be doing, especially if they are a public figure... I'm not saying it's a must, but a person who takes the effort to value their appearance will always outshine those who don't. The issue with foreigners is that they think of this as an insult to those who are ugly or fat or have some disorder. They try to shift the blame onto social expectations, rather than actually changing themselves. The majority of people can change. Just maintain a good hygiene, skincare, and fitness routine, and you'll easily look much better than those who don't. This isn't about being born handsome or pretty. It's about showing that you at least have some self-respect and willingness to make a good impression, which are important in any professional field anywhere in the world. Evan, for example, is not necessarily handsome or anything. He just knows how to dress himself and look good. If you really don't want to do anything, then you can go on the hundreds of other Korean shows that are more casual. And yes, they exist (a lot do in fact) but aren't as popular overseas bc it's not about Idols, beauty/sales products, and Kpop.
@@mandy11254 it’s not only about that. Koreans try to fake their appearance. Buying expensive cars to impress the others even they can actually not afford these kind of car. They live in their basement and eat almost everyday ramen because they cannot afford to eat proper food everyday but they drive bmw Mercedes to impress other people.
It’s not only the look of people. And why is the look so important? Yes of course it is so essential to leave some kind of expression to the others but you don’t have to to survive in der society. The main issue is that Koreans are way too sensitive. Creating words like “outsider” Oder “insider” to separate people is just sad.
Everyone should have the social freedom to look and wear whatever they like and want and not follow every freaking trend and buy everything to show other people that they are not “outsider”
Exactly. Koreans culture is very superficial that's why they are obsessed with that plastic surgery . very sad.
@@mandy11254Woah woah mr let me stop u there i don't think u are from korea or even have the slightest idea how bad things are there imagine not getting a job just because you don't fit the made up fake and artificial standard of the spineless society korea has (+the toxicity) Not having friend because they think you are too ugly for them to hang out with them (happens 90+% times they might not say to u in ur face but make up excuse rarely 1% people there won't judge u based on ur looks [U might say it happens every where but there is a point where people stop caring about such trivial sh*t but nope not in korea doesn't matter if ur 15,25 or even 55 u have to look a certain kpop way to not get judged in public places] )it's bad and it's getting even worse getting kids as young as 16 to get plastic eye surgery (to get the double eye lid or else they say u look angry all the time) like what does that even mean .
awwww..what sweet parents...
Aww his family looks so nice...❤❤

I think the studios in Vancouver are not quite this small. This is a micro apartment. I lived in a studio in down town Toronto but it was triple the size.
guess it's because Korea's far smaller than Canada. It's just not possible to make rooms spacious enough like in huge cuontries like Canada and US
His accent is so good i love it so much
Canada is a variation of different ethnicities and yeah , lots of attractive looking people in here , also , there are more Uni that are excellent when it comes to education . You have to come here to see it for yourself , I guess .
Crazy how SK is 4 times smaller than California. Now compare that to Canada... Prices in Seoul are especially ridiculous due to demand.
Demand is too high because Seoul alone comprises 50% of the country's population, maybe even slightly more. All in an area of only around 12,000 km2. The area of the whole country is slightly more than 100,000 km2
2:14 The fire next to the paper cup was making me so stressed
13:09 But the parents taking a selfie with the person filming them was adorable
I love how everytime there's fire they play FIRE by BTS
Way to go Steph. Keep persevering, i love your content, it quite literally is saving lives, its the breath of fresh air we need to survive this current society
His mum said exactly what I thought😂😂😂 cuz i feel him I only clean my apartment when someone is visiting
It’s so costly to live in any big city, I wish it was cheaper bc living in the city is so convenient when everything is so close. It sucks that they keep building new apartments buildings with smaller and smaller spaces with higher rents
I know his parents immediately told him they were looking for bigger places for him. Mine would. My mom would lose her mind.😀
I would feel so closed in with a tiny apartment like that. Would not be good for my mental health!
so handsome and smart man
Disclaimer : There IS single-room studio in Canada.🥴 That's not uncommon at all ! 😅😮💨 Especially with the housing crisis going on, landlords will soon be renting shoe boxes. I guess that's a concept totally going over the head of people from wealthier background...😪
literally
Meanwhile it's the opposite in Singapore. High rise public housing flats are getting bigger, probably to encourage families to have more children.
I'm also a Canadian living in Korea. I got asked a lot when I'm going back to Canada but I got married to a Korean man and we have 2 kids. I have no intention of living in Canada again. Although there are some difficulties, I feel like my life is here in Korea and there are more opportunities here for me.
It's refreshing to know another Canadian also feels Korea is home
18:04 Mom sweet mom.
Canada does have one room apartments called a bachelor. However they are larger than Evan's Seoul apartment. The reality of living in Seoul or NYC is a tiny apartment.
He said there is no studio in Canada. Untrue. I lived in a studio, downtown Toronto for a few years.
Studio apartments are common in cities, even in Montreal where McGill is located.
@@alisonfraser8231 True, but they are much bigger than this. So maybe their definition of studio = micro apartment.🤔
Yeah the differences in the definition of studio when comparing Korean to English. It’s impossible to translate
I assume there would be a full size kitchen and maybe a space for a sofa in a studio?
My studio in Toronto wasn't significantly larger, with the kitchen and sofa sharing the same space.
Some are even located in basements without windows.
very clean and cozy apt tho despite the small size
wow evan looks just like his dad! his parents are so cute
I can understand Evan's point that it can be hard to prove yourself as a foreigner - he said it in a very gentle and respectful way. I see videos all the time of foreigners who have been in Korea for a few years and the vast vast majority say they don't plan to stay. Why would you as a Korean or Korean company want to invest so much time and energy (especially given Koreans work such long hours) into someone who just plans to leave?
Because your son chose a small house to pay a small rent.
I lived in a big house. Seoul is more expensive than New York. Everyone knows it. If someone doesn’t know, he’s no common sense or he’s no interest in Asia.
Seoul more expensive than New York State, yes. But NYC? Hell no. You know the cost of a studio in downtown Manhattan is well over 3k USD right? For a studio like this guy even in Gangnam would probably be closer to 1K USD
beautiful, handsome and smart family❤
Canada is a lot better place to live compare to Korea
i'd agree 10 years ago, canada as of now is just as bad to be a working person in with the housing crisis and stuff
@@3xi1eCanada is a developed country it'll be fine.
This look like an average apartment you would get in nyc
How much does a micro apartment in Gangnam like that cost per month?
I love how the Korean hosts immediately made a joke out of how racist hillbilly Korea is. Like, come on.
they are all goodlooking tho, how is that possible 😮😂
It’s convenient for single man, easy to clean
Exactly 👍!
Gosh, the UK boys actually sound quite arsey! 😂 I hope he finds other friends… 🫠
why the hell would he live in korea id move back
he can make use of the white worship in korea. He can easily find a korean wife
why would he find a chinse wife@@OCV102
Believe me, there is a clear concept of foreigners in Canada especially if you are a visible minority despite what this Canadian says.
Even in a multicultural hub like Toronto, the country depends on immigrants for labour and money (for international students paying exorbitant tuition fees).
I think he means just on the street, like in Korea they immediately know you are a foreigner without even hearing you speak but in Canada you dont assume anyone is a foreigner unless they have an accent. Im not Canadian but its like that in Australia aswell.
I'm like 50/50 on this. In a sense, international students or newcomers aren't necessary seen as "foreigners" - since there's a plethora of Canadians from the same country as them. It's less about race in Canada (compared to Korea) and more so whether someone meets our cultural norms.
canada as a country accepts immigrants more for compassionate and demographic reasons than monetary or skill reasons
Who else heard newjeans-eta playing in the background of the restaurant at 4:27
나도 한국에 살고 싶어요 😭😭
Wow
What’s the song at 14:00
Model ? Random looking white dudes😂
in korea white and tall = handsome

McGill is not the best university in Canada, lol.
It’s most definitely among the like top3, it’s a VERY good school.
You will find it is the oldest and best
It's consistently in the top 3 in Canada and have taken the #1 spot a number of times
MCGill is one of the best school in Canada
@@vaninelliniThat's not how we do things in Canada. Every university has a few departments that are really good and exclusive, and other departments that aren't that prestigious. Some programs at McGill are fairly easy to get into and complete.
there only 1 reason why he in korea and i doubt he mind how small his room is lmaoooooo
Standards are too low if you think they are good looking. His like below average if asked in australia.
what an unnecessary comment...
different beauty standards mate, what u might think is good looking in australia may as well be ugly in korea
we have different beauty standard bruh.. our girls don't like big muscled guys as you do... and we don't like big bums so ye
because of the white worship the standard is quite low in SK. Only need to be white
I'm canadian and he's not my type but I see why he is considered handsome...I don't need to find someone personally attractive to see why people find them good looking.
South Korean government should provide larger luxurious apartments for expats . Expats bring so much money from tourism
canada? not america? That doesnt count then. Nothing special

He got that yellow fever!
Appartements in SEOUL are horrible!! Small, dirty, moldy.. tgey expect you to pay 1000$ per month for a small 2 rooms.. I hate this city, its ugly, congested, with electric cables everywhere.. not to mentions the rude elderlys in old dirty areas like Jongno.. eww Im glad I moved to surburb ( gyeongido incheon).. I would recommend to expats to move out of Seoul too.. its more livable ( bigger space, cleaner, less crowds and no elderlys)

아 그럼 홍콩이나 일본으로 가세요. 집크기에 만족하실겁니다
Was there actually another foreigner on the panel? (the woman?) interesting.
Yes, Sayuri is Japanese but she's been in South Korea for at least 15 years now
What's their Instagram lol
