    Love the passive aggressive post-it note placement.
    The hedge hog!!! So tiny!!! The animation at the start I'm like: fun, cute, and then we see it in your hand - so tiny!!!
    I keep telling my self to work smaller, but good paper puppets, they just need to be X big to get the right balance of details to function. I realized the other day that I'm working at the same scale as Aardman, but I don't have that kind of studio space. At least everything I've made so far is flat and is easy to store.

      Haha! I enjoyed slapping them on the table like that, it looked boring when I did it softly. Was nice to try a different way of showing information. Yes, very tiny!! I always tend to work small... not sure why, I know it would be a lot easier to scale up... and work bigger sometimes :) Ah yeah, those jointed puppets you made were great - its hard to make them too much smaller. Like you say it would reduce function and movement to do so. Space is always an issue... even I struggle with that and I have a whole area dedicated to animating. Just got to make the best of what we've got - I think you are doing super well with your creations so far :)

    Thanks for the tutorial! I am currently trying to figure out what software I should buy because I just got a camera, but I am just trying to decide if dragonframe is too complicated or if I should just go for it. Thanks!

      My pleasure!! 😇 If you are serious about stop motion Dragonframe is a great piece of software to start learning and if your aim is to be an animator at a studio they will all be using it too. If you know this is something you want to do longterm and not something you are going to get bored of then I say go for it! It's pretty easy to learn and there are loads of tutorials about 😊

    Question are there times when you use only toggling between frames or only onion skinning, or is it best to use a combination of both?

  • @thomasbruinsma
    @thomasbruinsma 4 года назад +1

    Another great trick is to make your start (and end) frame in the middle of an action, instead of being a 'keypose'. It requires a bit more planning, but it works every time.

    • @Animatortor
      @Animatortor  4 года назад

      That's a great tip, definitely another good method to get that perfect loop - thank you :)

  • @pipecleaneruniverse5749
    @pipecleaneruniverse5749 3 года назад +1

    So do you need to make sure all the leaves, at least the top onesm, are in the exact same spot in the pipe they were in the beginning? Like if there was say a green leaf between an orange and a yellow one on top of the pipe you need them in the same places again?

    • @Animatortor
      @Animatortor  3 года назад +1

      Roughly in the same place, yes. You'll notice I wiggled the leaves every frame and so part of doing that was to disguise the join as well... but if you can get the two frames to match as closely as possible for the loop then you would achieve the best looping result :)

    • @pipecleaneruniverse5749
      @pipecleaneruniverse5749 3 года назад +1

      @@Animatortor ok. I also tjought they wiggled because the hedgehog wiggled them. I've done little loops in my animations, but my latest one had no looping. But thanks for the looping advice. My brother said ne noticed where I've looped things in them, but maybe others won't notice. But I know I can get better at it.

    • @Animatortor
      @Animatortor  3 года назад +1

      Ah yeah, they were wiggling because the hedgehog wiggled them too. Sometimes looping on a moment of action can help conceal a join... so make an action like an arm swing or a jump or something the beginning and end and sometimes that can hide the join better too. I think brother's sometimes say stuff like that to be annoying, so don't take it to heart. You will get better for sure, the more you do the easier it will be :)
