One of the problems with the prequels was related with the insistence they stay at around the 2 hour mark. When that is just too little to tell and show the viewer everything that needs to be told and shown. This leads to a lot of haphazardly put exposition and "connective tissue" which could have been put together in a much more elegant "show; do not tell" manner. All I all I find the prequels fascinating and great pieces of cinema (much better than anything Disney has put and will put out), but their full potential was castrated both by the forward-looking visionary attitude of Lucas _(all 3 movies should have been shot on film for example, and the same stylistic choices of using props in Phantom Menace should have been the same all throughout the trilogy, for example)_ and random self-imposed limitations, like the 2 hours format (probably to mimic the matinees he enjoyed as a kid). I for one, think he should have gone BIG, and have lore-rich, stylistic 3 hour+ movies, LOTR style. It would have given him a lot more leeway to stitch together different plot points, and be more visual in the story telling. The pacing would have been more elegant and engaging, and seeing as these movies were meant to be timeless classics, fans all over the world would rejoice.
The amount of filmmaking knowledge you threw around in this video had me quite overwhelmed but never as much as the weirdly edited exposition of Episode II. Good job, probably the green hue made the trick.
I have absolutely no interest in Star Wars but watching your other videos lead me here, and it’s been really interesting. You’re both very funny and very creative. All your videos, even these Star Wars ones-where I have zero point of reference-have been really entertaining or giving me stuff to think about later. Thank you!
the one change i gotta really disagree with is the removal of the anakin and palpatine scene. i feel like it's important to show that palpatine's grooming of anakin has been going on for years and didn't just start in revenge of the sith.i think it helps make anakin's turn feel a little less sudden and more justified
You know, personally, I would have been happy if the film just had a bit more context to certain elements and didn't have romance scenes that make you wanna die.
I actually was going to ask if you were going to restore that extneded bit of thr Jedi Archive scene about Count Doku before I learned it was cut for your edit. That might make it better if it was added back in.
Hey friend I watched your star wars ranking earlier and expressed my disagreement with your placement of this movie. After seeing this video I have a deeper understanding of your viewpoint. I love you Your Friend Jim
I'm in my filmmaking class in high school. I'm about to graduate. We just finished watching Attack of the Clone Wars. One of our last projects were doing is fixing the script. At first, I didn't pay attention to it. But after seeing the movie again, I understand what the problem was. The dialogue was bad when there were no action stuff happening.
The most transformative single thing they could've done is have padme and Anakin dislike each other to start (like han+Leia). Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series!
Having seen the other parts yet so I’m not sure if you did this in the future, but I really wish you added some of deleted scenes were anakin and padame go to her house on Naboo, it seems like half of the romance plot scenes were good and half were awful, and they chose to keep in the awful ones and cut out the good ones, for some reason??? Also I think you could add in the deleted scene were the Librarian tells Obi wan about court Dooku, it gives a little backstory to the villain and reminds the audience before he shows up.
It actually wasn't that bad, just watched it! If they kept in the deleted scenes, this movie would've been better!!! It would've been cool to see some sort of dance or ball where anakin and padme danced to get to know each other on Naboo!
The only function Jar-Jar serves is he proposes the creation of the army, so by cutting that, what function do you think he serves in the story? I would really like to understand this choice, since cutting Jar-Jar would be at the very top of my list of edits.
Attack of the Clones is still the worst Star Wars movie to date although The Rise of Skywalker is close I would say it's only above Clones since it's at least good looking Attack of the Clones looks like crap even for it's time especially next to Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
@@RiderNexus What film did you watch? TROS has miserable acting and has the most lame script going. Palpatine died on the Death Star in Episode VI, I'm sorry! Attack of the Clones was at least original.
This is super nit picky but at about 2:10 it looks like Obi has his saber hilt from TPM attached to his belt but I was always under the impression that he lost that in the fight against Maul. I know he loses a saber in Clones but I thought it was a different one. Maybe he made a second version and then moved on to the new saber design that he uses in RotS & onward?
@@calebgamman that makes sense But I like to imagine it’s Ewan’s own prop that he brought and tried to sneak it into the movie. Pretty sure he picked it out of a selection during combat training/choreography for TPM
the sequels may have devolved into a cat fight between two different directors, but the first one is at least competent and all three have some good acting and cinematography
This is a few months behind, but I just watched this and I have to say you FUNDAMENTALLY misunderstood a huge aspect of this film, and it's frustrating because you DO understand the mechanics and importance of narrative in filmmaking. At around the 4 minute mark you've got question marks between the Kamino plot and the Anakin/Padme love story regarding the intercutting between the two discussing the fact that it makes no sense that they are intercut. I am sorry, but that is a COMPLETE FAILURE on your part that you missed how they are connected and how powerfully they are connected. The juxtaposition of Kamino and the Lake Country on Naboo is brilliant and that is a big reason why I just can't hate on the love story as presented. Because of *how* it's presented. By giving us Anakin and Padme falling in love in the Lake Country at the same time we learn about Kamino and the clones (that intercutting that you don't get), we see love and war side by side. It made perfect sense juxtaposing the Lake Country and Kamino. Why? Because we have the two young lovers falling on the one side, and the Clone army, set up for war, on the other. Because of the OT (and all of the extended universe stuff) we know that Anakin falling in love with Padme is going to eventually lead him to take the Dark Path, and the Clone Army is going to turn on the Jedi somehow. Having the introduction of the clones and the introduction of the love story juxtaposed is brilliant because here you have the two key forces that BRING THE JEDI DOWN: Order 66 and Anakin Skywalker falling in love being revealed/happening at the same time. It's so perfect.
"How [the love story] was presented" is exactly why it's irredeemable. Your own spin is good in concept but definitely not with the ""Red-flags"-Mgee finds love after begging" presentation that was done.
This was terrific. Something about it was very... quality.

I'm late to say or ask this but 3:14 can you fix the lighting a little? The shadow doesn't block light cast on the characters.
How do you get the footage of the movie to edit?
I am a year late but either piracy or rip it off the disc
You need an hdmi cable (or two) and a capture card
i'm skeptical this movie can be fixed, but i'd be interested in seeing your cut of the film. do you plan on sharing it
