Tiny Snow Nippa! Perodua in the drifts

- With the roads cleared by a digger, I take the little Perodua Nippa (Kancil in Malaysia) out to see what conditions are like. A mission of great importance - milk for further cups of tea! And biscuits for George the Cat.
There may be a snow blower.
Recorded on my Nextbase DUO HD dash cam, which is still undergoing review. I'll get that finished one day. Honestly. Авто/Мото
What a beautiful country you live in. The view are so calming! Here in Malaysia we called it Perodua Kancil and will be collectable item in the future. Keep your Little Nippa for the next generation to see! :))
Thanks so much for sharing this video with a ride through the snowy country side where you live. What a beautiful video. Please make more videos like these. Love it. Cheers! Take care.
I already thought Wales looked beautiful in the spring, summer, and fall. Winter looks even more majestic. That little Nippa with those super narrow tires will go through anything. Lol. My dad used to tell me that the best tire in the snow is a bicycle tire since it's the narrowest of them all. Glad George got his biscuits too. Smiles.
I really enjoy your drives in the snow
I love your videos! I can’t believe I’m watching a perodua Nippa in the snow in Wales - legend!
Great video Ian. For the first time in 4 years, my snow tyres have proved their worth, and what a game changer they are. Glad to see you could get milk.
Dashes across the wilds of Nottingham highlighted people have been panic buying screen wash. Even Halfrauds are out!
I really love winter driving,it's one of the most enjoyable moments of winter, when the snow falls, and you are going for a drive!
My old shit box MK1 Corsa was fantastic in the snow. Low power, skinny tyres, no traction control it was great.
Thanks for the tour of your little trec of snow glad to see you brought back the endings.....jobs a goodin
Glad to see you getting back to normality Ian, I managed to get out today Sunday for the first time since last Tuesday take care and stay warm.
Beautiful countryside. I liked the way you dodged the snow bogs.
Thanks for the ride! Stunning scenery as always.
Hi another great video, the little nippa did very well, and what lovely countryside you live in, hope you got some biscuits to have with your tea.

Thanks for taking us along for a very entertaining ride, and showing us the scenic countryside!
Thanks. If you liked that, you'll probably like this too. ruclips.net/video/n2Y5iedkZW4/видео.html
I had a beautiful 1967 Morris Mini a few years back. We had a fair bit of snow over Christmas and a jealous colleague informed my Mini was bound to let me down as they were always notoriously bad cold starters. As I drove past his house on the way to work at 5am the next day, he very reluctantly had to flag me down as his Mondeo wouldn't start😁. He wasn't impressed with my Hopkirk-esque showing-off in the snow!
I knew a guy back in the 80's who had only ever owned English cars. Not a big deal if you are in England but we're in Canada. One winter he was in a big mall in Alberta and he ran across a couple of guys talking cars and saying how unreliable English cars are, they'd never own one etc. Buddy's walking back to his car and these guys are now in the car park trying to find someone to give them a boost because their car won't start at whatever temperature it was below freezing. He said no problem, and drove up in his E-type. If you were to look up sheepish in the dictionary I'm sure there would be a picture of these two guys.
Nice work. Those narrow winter tyres delivered. When the video begins I looked at the road and thought "well we had more than that" (NE Eng), then of course you got into the real snow. Rarely get the dry powdery snow up here, but its amazing how is drifted in those easterly winds, and the problems it has (is causing). Now time to put the kettle on
Those nextbase cameras really are excellent, I have one myself. I have been driving around in my 1984 Cavalier that also doesn’t have power steering and has skinny tyres so you can really feel the road and makes excellent driving in conditions like this. You can even feel a small amount of slip on frosty mornings, it really wakes you up on how bad newer cars are at giving you this valuable information I think.
I love this car , because i have this car at my home and this perodua nippa car have many memory when i go round the town , this is first perodua car in 90s . btw I'm from Malaysia 😁 nice video , and I'm so appreciate for this 😊 .
I looked on in envy as a Dodge Ram 4×4 Crew Cab slithered past my home (Oxon Cotswolds) in 1 foot of snow on Friday; However, I'm now wondering if I should just buy an old Nippa instead. Thank you Ian for showing the world that common sense and careful driving are just as good as a 4×4 for getting through the snow.
im proud of that "KANCIL"...magnificent view...nice countryside
Devils Bridge! Had a couple of lovely stays in that area. I do remember going through those exact roads on a foggy December night at 11.30pm. Cant say I was that relaxed driving!
Lovely little car :)
As a tea addict myself it amazing how far you will go for milk. And the perilous danger you are willing to put yourself in to get it.
at 1st i was concerned about what side you are driving on ;)
Next trip stop by n pick me up for coffee..
thanks for sharing buddy!
You just caused the bottom of the inflated second hand Defender market to collapse. Well done indeed little Nippa!
Hi Ian,at least the some of the snow has gone, just seen your nippa in the snow and the road looks worse, cant forget milk and biscuitsfor the cat LOL.
I really like that little car. Small and functional, just what I look for.
i have that nippa.... it was an old nippa that my father use to sent me ro school becouse we couldt not afford a expensive car.... but i really gratefull at least my father was a good man he trying his best to give me a better life
Shame the defender slowed you down.
Great vid and great views across the valley. All of my cars I have owned have been 2 litre minimum and just a couple at 1.3L. Getting on as I am now, I would love a little nippa like that.
Maybe, one day I will end up with ine. Insurance would start from scratch though as I have lost all of my no claims for not owning a car for 5 - 6 years.
i love the Nippa xxx well done nippa
Lovely Scenery that. :)
Hi Ian is it 3 cylinder sounds like my old matiz good little car you got there and lovely scenery another great episode 🙂👍🏻
It is a three-cylinder. I'm a former Matiz owner myself - the only brand new car I have ever purchased!
3:13 We all get used to driving in the conditions that prevail where we live and therefore have different definitions for what constitute 'difficult' road conditions, but I admit to having a bit of a laugh at seeing the Volvo hesitating before a couple of inches in part of its lane. I laughed again when the driver of the Land Rover mentioned that they would soon clear that lane for you, as though a 4x4 was required to get through. Well done to you and the Nippa for setting him right.
Looks beautiful there. My niece and family live in Aberystwyth.
Lovely scenery in your part of the world! :)
Certainly is. To think, people STILL ask me why we moved here. The answer is all around.
I can certainly see why you wanted to move there! :) I live just outside Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia in Canada...we're USUALLY used to a lot more snow than you folks get, so seeing your video is a bit amusing. It is a lot of snow compared to what you are used to though, and the roads to look pretty sketchy - glad your drive was a safe one! This year has been a VERY unusually mild winter for us so far though...
imgur.com/a/mPQtK - My 2009 Hyundai Accent (or Accent Atlantic to you folks in the UK!) from March 2015 for comparison, haha (though this storm was more than we usually get at around 50-60cm)!
More lovely 3-cylinder action. Nice!
Oh yeah, the scenery was OK too I guess, if you like that sort of thing.
Good drive and stunning scenery , puts queueing in snowy Leicester to shame .
Nice to see the snow and well done little nippa. I thought you would of got two litres of milk Lol. Nice to see a couple of defenders on the road. Sold my 95 disco yesterday 😢
No need to get greedy with milk. Now the roads are clearing, we'll soon be able to get more.
I was out in the snow in my 1987 Granada Scorpio. It's on 195 section winter tyres (Uniroyal) and got up slopes that I could see some cars couldn't make !
nice to watch the beautiful Welsh country side from afar
There's a new Suzuki Jimny out this year....They're pretty capable machines.
In Austria one winter I was following 2 lorries on a motorway (reduced to one lane , where the east and westbound are separate) and they were going slower up hill so I overtook, pushing the Discover to it's limit, only to realise the lorries were making the route and I had a 'virgin' snow road about 20 meters wide in front of me. I pulled off at Villach.
i used to have a perodua nippa as basic as it was loved it had it about 2 years never failed to start and run it was a great little car
Four years on, this one is still going strong, though it needed some work for the MOT this year, and the radiator has sprung a leak...
No saucepan in the road road this time, stood to see you out in the snow.
What a beautiful country, even in winter.
Pretty wild conditions on those roads, haven’t seen them quite that bad and I’ve been through devils bridge a fair few times that’s for sure
Little car sounding amazingly quiet.
Technology lies. She's a noisy little thing! Thankfully, no longer this noisy. ruclips.net/video/Vxamy6fOYfc/видео.html
I love this car
Hey, I followed you on google maps ;-)
Snow enough in your area, we´ve had also but not so much.
Keep something in the fridge for hot summer days ;-)
cheers Bernd
Nice and practical malaysian car...👍
The right hand perspective is disconcerting but I Like the scenery, it's great.
If it means the difference between having tea in the morning or not, I'd make that journey on foot if I had to! Nice to see George is sorted for biccies too. I'm sure he appreciates it although being a cat, you can't second guess him...
Quite an adventure just for a bottle of milk and some cat food. Might be easier to keep your own cow. Anyway great to see a good example of that Dunkirk spirit. You have put me to shame. I stayed in all weekend even though my local store is within walking distance. Great video, Ian.
Should've bought some extra milk, it'll be expensive again when snow is gone and you have to take the Lexus.
That said, with weather like that I'd gladly get your milk any day of the week. Love it! Still jealous.
Your comment on the power steering; Something I like about my Volvo 440. The difference is smaller, but it still gets very notably lighter.
I don't get why you'd want it any oher way
Interesting how no other car than a Defender is on the road. Except the Nippa. Honestly, people are just ridiculously scared of a little snow and should just try out what their car does in different weather conditions.
Well done little Nippa!
Wow Ian. I've never seen that much snow in Wales. We are coming back home in 2 weeks for a visit, hope it's gone by then.
It's fast disappearing now. Thankfully.
Great scenery, and lovely to see a pre-Worboys traffic sign at 4:09. When do we get to meet George?!?
There are still quite a few around here!
Took my wifes Toyota Aygo out in the snow a few times during this snowy spell and it did just fine, far better than my Alfa 156v6 thats for sure :) but snow all gone here in Kent now and a barmy 8c today
Lovely countryside . maybe do another video , same route in the summer ?
Scary icy roads, Nippa did well.
Nice scenery, knackered my ML yesterday trying to get out of a drift.. either blown transfer box or torque converter, long walk home! Today aye ar mostly driving me 'ittle Seicento.. great fun in the snow with skinny little wheels.. biggest problem isn't the snow but the 4x4 which come bombing down the middle of the road. In contact with a YTer in Canada who has built a RAT TANK using a Bren Carrier and an old truck body... me thinks this may be an idea for next year if we get more of the same?
Yes, other road users always the biggest worry!
Landrovers/John Deere's/snow/Wales/Ian what more do you need in a video loved it thanks.
Battling through the elements on a noble quest for milk. (in a nippa) scores
See on the shot of the snow blower rear camera, you showed my main gripe of the duo camera. Objects in the car blocking it's rear vision. Plus side my second car I owed a mk 1 950 fiesta with narrow tyres was nearly as good in snow as the 5 4x4 I have owned in the last 14 years or so.
Yeah, I didn't position the camera very well! Works fine in the Honda and Lexus.
That little nipper hasn't done badly in the snow.
9 minutes in - "hold my pint"
that nippa sounds exactly the same as my g11 charade :)
my family and I live on the moors in north yorks .we got through 3 winters using a 17 year old 1 ltr Nissan micra lol this little nippa is gem I need one lol landrover my arse lol
By coincidence, I also headed out for a pint of milk this morning. We already had 2 pints in the house but I was suffering from cabin fever so I told the missus more snow was forecast (I lied) and we best get more to be sure. None of the shops had any left! Plenty of bananas though - how does that work?
I see it only snowed on the roads in your area😊
I'd like to see more Nippa videos can you do more? im a fan of rare cars...i own a proton savvy myself
Drove the DS3 and the 1950 80” Landy in the snow this weekend. Not much in it in terms of performance to be honest.
Small front wheel drives are great in snow - just avoid low profile tyres. If you need any suggestions for future projects { I'm sure you don't} may I suggest a Hillman Imp. Way better than the Mini.
Mini and Saab where unbeatable in the Monte Carlo rally until 4wd came along.
Well, not entirely true. Last non-4WD rally cars were all RWD I think - Talbot Sunbeam, Lancia 037 etc.
My little i10 is quite good, with relatively narrow (for a modern) 165 tyres. Best was my first Strada which had the spare wheel and jack at the front, so a good amount of weight over the driven wheels.
Mine are 175s which I think are standard now. My favorite was my previous Hyundai Getz diesel which plowed through anything,
I guess the better power handling of RWD made FWD obsolete in rallying sooner than 4wd did. Last FWD car to win the Monte Carlo was in 1972 (Lancia Fulvia) and for the next 10 years it was all RWD cars.
I bet that pissed the landy driver off when u said its alright i'll get through that lol
Being a pessimist, I'd have been thinking "Oh bugger, he's had to turn round and come back"
An Omnivore and an Omnidriver!
England would come to a standstill. Mean while back in Wales. Best to put a hat on
I was happy on the trip out because I could see your speed on the dash cam to reassure me but you switched it off on the way back so you could put your foot down and my brake peddle doesn't work under the desk here.
It must have lost the GPS signal. I touched nothing!
Yes the GPS dropped out a couple of times on the way to the petrol station and it also took away the speed indicator, my nextbase camera does this as well.
Nippa sutoritu doriftuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!
When the roads get better, use the "I have to get some milk" excuse to take the Invacar for a ride.....😁😎👍I see there’s no 7-Eleven or Starbucks on every corner like where I live
The beauty of countryside living. No Starbucks within a ten mile radius! Invacar will be out and about once road legal.
It's a shock when you drive cars without PAS, it's so much easier to feel when you're at the limits of grip before it's too late.
I would probably only undertake such a mission to get some beer or wine in order to survive these artic conditions.......
All you need is a Nippa to get you through the snow. Its light and fwd.
Just goes to show you don't need a big forbefor to get around in the snow, just a god driving sense... :)
Thank God. We have it for 5 bloody months here. Ha
I think I would’ve made do with powdered or long life milk - or even had my coffee black hair! That seems a tremendous palaver to have to go through for basic supplies.
Looks like a normal winter drive in Minnesota. Also, that is a tiny carton of milk! I'm used to the little milk being the half gallon!
1:17 Yeah, that's a safety feature.
I sometimes wonder what a car such as the Nippa would be like here in the US. Then, I see things like it passing a tractor and remember half the cars on the road here are more that thing's size and it passes. Shame, really. I learned to drive in a 90's Suzuki Swift and miss the go kart feel of the thing.
No milk=no brew in the morning=consternation. This is an important consideration.
Good Lord, how far do you have to drive to get the the shops?
4 miles. If we want a supermarket or Post Office, 12 miles.
I was terrified a this episode. Snow is not something we see very often end here. The video was a “ you are there” experience. I could feel myself going for the brakes many times. Very much like a video game. Here it’s flooded streets from torrential rain that we have no trouble with but scare those not familiar with this type of hazard.
How well would the Invacar do if it went through that?
It'd be fun to find out. Engine is over the driven wheels, and the tyres are skinny, so should be ok.
Just out of curiosity, what magazine do you edit?
Classic Jaguar and Retro Japanese. Both can be seen at shop.kelsey.co.uk
No power steering, no anti-lock brakes, no traction control.... no problem!
Brings to mind the old saying about someones mind like a Welsh road... one track and dirty hehehehe
You have to drive how far for milk? Wow ! I'm also very jealous as all of the snow has gone from London now :-(
Used to have a local shop, but sadly it closed a few years ago. Bad times. Now, it's 4 miles.
I feel spoilt with so many shops so close now.
Is that brown stuff ,Salt? . They certainly moved a lot of snow and it has melted a lot too by the looks of things.
Yes. Oddly, there was just one huge deployment of salt in a very small area!
I think the Perodua is ace! A long way to go for milk & biscuits for the cat, mind.
That's rural life for you. Nearest town is 12 miles away, nearest shop is 4 miles.
Where you going for the milk ian ? England !
4 miles to the nearest shop!
