What an amazing year this has been! Very pleased by the number one pick for this year. This gives me a lot to choose between for my Top Story of the Year for my periodical. Also, apparently the Floridian was created due to temporary trackwork for the East River Tunnels next to Penn Station moreso than freeing up equipment.
As a european it's interesting to see what is happening in america with its railroads Sadly we also have lots of delays in new projects mostly due to funds missing etc. i hope 2025 will be a good year for railways in general!
I did find out that the new Dual Mode SC42-DMs are to Heavy when fully fueled up to go on the raised portion of tracks at Harlem 125th street. Which is why they are upgrading and doing maintenance on them because they want to be able to run on third rail all the way to croton. My source was my Father who is a Locomotive engineer at Metro North and they are already doing simulators for the new engines to train crew
Caltrain's EMUs will make a difference for riders with faster speed and electrification and MARC could also Stadler EMUs on its Penn Line, NJT on the Northeast Corridor, SEPTA on its electrified routes, and MBTA on its Providence Line since all those routes are already electrified.
Honestly, the next four years will be very challenging for both rail industry projects and America as a whole. If Project 2025 and Trump's new administration move forward, they could disrupt future rail projects from 2025 onward. I believe state funding will need to work overtime to keep these vital passenger and commuter services afloat. Some people suggest that Trump is not opposed to high-speed rail; however, I highly doubt that. I have a feeling Elon Musk might be against it. Nevertheless, I'm trying to approach 2025 with optimism. I just hope that whatever happens, both freight and passenger rail are not too negatively affected or reach a point of financial instability.
Great video. I enjoyed your recap. Also its worth mentioning the MBTA getting rid of comet cab cars. 2024 is a big year for the American railroad. I am happy about many of the huge investments put in by passenger rail companies to help make service better. Also i can tell you dont like trump. He sucks and he will derail or crash many projects. Great video Sam! Also fyi i met at readville when we saw the mp15dc
This is quite an informative recap of the year's projects! I am impressed by how much progress occurred in the American railroad industry, and I hope to see more progress over the next few years. Thanks for the video!
I really have my doubts about the passenger railroad projects surviving 4547's new administration, given who he picked to helm the FRA the odds are really slim. Erosion of safety measures put in place (two-man crews, inspections, etc.) combined with high tariffs coming for international intermodal traffic, it's going to be a rough time for the railroad industry.
For his number 2 story he said caltrain was fully electrified. This isn't true because of the line that goes to morgan hill and salinas which still uses diesel power. Sadly not F40's though
I have good news amtrak 534 (MP15) after being out of service for 7 months is currently being worked on and is getting access and cabbies upgrades im assuming 538 is next As thats what my paperwork says at the shop here some other interesting also im hearing that amtrak might be getting some of metro norths p32s once more new Siemens dual modes show up to supplement the fleet and expand service
Some things you could have mentioned is the partial restoration of the Amtrak Operation Lifesaver Unit EMD F40PHR No. 231 and the new F40PH-4C (Tier 4 F40PH).
For the Metro North DM Siemens, pretty sure amtrak is using battery/diesel combos instead of third rail/diesel. Not sure why, the battery car is a nonsense idea when you can just use the third rail and still run at 80 mph but here we are
He just brought it up since the ALC-42Es will also be dual mode. They ultimately work the same, they’re just provided electricity through different sources. Also, if the battery car prototype does not live up to expectations, Amtrak has the option to switch the battery sets to third rail.
Great video, and it has been a great 4 years for rail in this country. How sad is it that many organizations, companies and countries are preparing for the negative effects of the upcoming administration? Either way, I hope for more good news in the next four years, no matter how foolish it is to be optimistic.
Brightline West has been delayed over 2x on their own timeline of 2020-2024 construction. They haven’t even broken ground yet and it’s already 2025. What makes you think that they will magically start to keep to their schedule now?
@@TohaBgood2 They broke ground a few months ago lol. CASHR will be better though. No single-track sections, wider curves, decently sized stations, higher speeds, better connection to the city centers …
@TohaBgood2 they just broke ground. And bright line west started this year, chr started in 2008, chr doesn't even have a train on order, bright already has trains on order, and an entire operation in Florida
@@daveshockwave8098 Pretty much everything you said is wrong. Brightline did the groundbreaking ceremony almost a year ago, but they haven't actually broken ground on any portion of the project yet. They're still just doing soil samples. CAHSR broke ground in 2015 on the first section and in 2018 and 2019 on the other two. And the first section, CP4, is already completed. The other two are over 80% complete and on track for 2026 completion. In November 2008 the first round of funding was passed by the voters in a statewide referendum. This is what funded all the pre-construction and design activities in 2009-2015 after which they broke ground. All of this info is freely available online. You could have googled it. Why didn't you?
@@VieleGuteFahrer Brightline had the groundbreaking ceremony but they are yet to actually break ground on any structures or right of way. They're not even done with the surveying and soil samples yet FFS! And let's not forget that this is still a five (5) year delay over their own timeline! They are 2.25x delayed on their own original plan!
Trump said he is going to keep the Portal North Bridge project on schedule considering the fact that his administration did give the project the green light to continue!!!
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 Odds are that it will be put onto the chopping block, much like what happened to the Gulf Coast service during the W. Bush administration after Hurricane Katrina.
No why? They look sleek and teh color scheme is awesome, yeah the proportions are bit off cause they had to modify and make the European trainsets bigger
Fear mongering about Trump is not the way to go about this. I know the houseplant of a president we’ve had for 4 years pretty much let anything fly but look what that did to the economy. Just because you aren’t happy with the election results doesn’t mean you can spread fear about Trumps supposed threat to rail projects. (We’ll just ignore the fact that he green lighted the portal north bridge.) Other than that, great recap!
Okay so he greenlit one project, that doesnt mean hes going to do much a favor for the rest. The economy is going to hel ldue to a pandemic, alot of people seem to fail to understand we just got out of a global pandemic or that it will effect economies. Lets not forget Musk is getting pretty involved here, and the reason he put so much to the Hyperloop was to undermine and ruin CAHSR. Lets also take into account the right wing's general disdain for public transit, and preference for the oil lobby. Theres alot of evidence to support any concerns of this new admin's attitude towards rail expansion
That "houseplant" of a president managed to get an infrastructure bill passed - something that neither 45/47 or his republican predecessors managed to do. Biden did NOTHING wrong and did not tank the economy. He inherited a mess and high inflation but it started to taper off to the point where it's MUCH lower than it was. Yes, I am indeed unhappy with the election results. To think that 45/47 cares about public transportation, safety, fair prices or anything else is a fantasy. Other than that, yes, the recap was good. I hope that some major proposals survive the next four years.
Let's hope rail projects doesn't get delayed by the new administration!
Amen
They're too focused on the tax cuts on billionaires
They will. Especially CAHSR. Don't forget the bullshit they pulled last time with Caltrain electrification.
Amen
True that
I’m very excited to see these return to operation! 5:28

i think the new hudson tunnels are a goingto comtain faster tracks so it might acraully more then double capacity. alsoi

Musk has been trying to kill CAHSR since 2017. He will absolutely try to kill again now that he has Trump as his crony. Guaranteed!
Caltrain's electrifying and Brightline West beginning construction certainly deserve the best railroad events of the year

My favorite thing that has happened this year is C&O 614 and nyc 3001 being restored to operation
Great run down!!!
I hope next year is when Amtrak formally decides and announces the order of a brand new fleet of long distance railcars
The Long Island railroad has ordered 44 Dual Mode Chargers too.
