This has to be the longest video I've found on RUclips. Still here 2 hours in on Christmas Eve afternoon 2024, and still enjoying myself following along.
Yep, Scotty been super busy. Called him a year and half ago to hire him to blue a gun for me. He told me to check back around Christmas. I called and never got a answer. I still going to try and give him a call and get it done. I could have it re blued locally but Scotty in my opinion is the best in the Southeast.
Thanks Scotty! This video answered a lot of my questions. I keep on doubting myself In certain steps of the polishing process. Sometimes I think I bit off more than I could chew on some of these rusty jobs. My main issue is the really fine pitting. Its almost like a cloudy look in the high gloss after my final step. I start back over at step #1 again. This is the Step where I doubt myself the most. I don't wanna remove any engraving or lettering but sometimes struggle to get the fine pitting removed. Thank you so much for sharing everything you do.
Great video! My 1953 Browning A5 has a ton of engraving. I don't think it could take that much sanding. I used 2500 grit sandpaper to do what you're doing and I feel like that preserved the engraving.
about how much to refinish my 870 wingmaster police edition 18 barrel? i tear it down and send it? its not in horrible shape just the barrel has couple large pitted spots.
wouldnt it be easier to chuck up the barrel in a lathe and spin it while sanding to go faster and maybe easier? im asking because i thought about doing it.

Though we use very different methods of polishing, good to see some hand sanding.

Are you hot blueing or Rust blueing, with rust blueing they say a grit paper of 320 or 400 is about the max to use.
Amazing work as always. True pro.

How about a 1911 with no pits, What grit would you start with to get a mirror shine?
Beautiful

Scotty says - I wouldn't spin it in a lathe, I would block sand it and use the polishing wheels.
@@poboyspecial ok if you had to guess how much to refinish a 870 wingmaster ? Its not horrible but does have pitting on barrel mainly.
Scotty I have two 22 rifles I would love for you to refinish for me
Glad he's a Tennessean
You should look into Klingspor though best bang for your buck they got bargain box's to last along time
Where did you get that sanding block ?
