    Very important to use torque wrench while putting filter back on 18 lbs ft of torque,or you'll never get it off again, and always put oil on gasket

    I just got my oil changed in my 2011 Corolla and the mechanic said I should really change every 5,000 miles instead of the recommended 10,000 for 0w20. Which is right? I also was wondering if I should also change the oil filter every 10,000 miles or 5,000.

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  9 лет назад +2

      Your mechanic is correct 5,000 is when I recommend having the oil changed .The 0w20 is a full synthetic.The oil filter will always be changed with the oil change 5,000 miles..

    • @rayemanuel7460
      @rayemanuel7460 7 лет назад +2

      GamingHD, Toyota recommends changing the oil on your Corolla only every 10,000 miles. I checked with a good friend of mine who is a technician at Toyota and he says that Toyota has done extensive testing to ensure that the engine is still protected when the oil is changed every 10,000 miles. So don't worry about it.

      +Ben Scrued No not that I know of

    • @godhammer666
      @godhammer666 6 лет назад +2

      When cars first started using oil filters they were all cartridge types. The spin-on or traditional as you call it was the "improvement" that came about in the 50's because it was easier to change them out. In recent years the cartridge has made a come back due to it being less wasteful and it's come back was spear headed by asian and european car manufactures not american. Maybe learn a thing or two before spouting ignorance.

      This is the oil that it calls for .The 0W20 is full synthetic.
      Grade ILSAC multigrade engine oil
      Viscosity SAE 5W-20 or SAE 0W-20
      SAE 5W-20 or 0W-20 engine oil may be used. However, SAE 0W-20 is the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather.

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  9 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your input but I always use the oil that is recommended by the manufacture.This is the recommendation from them. Thank for watching .Jim Grade ILSAC multigrade engine oil
      Viscosity SAE 0W-20
      If SAE 0W-20 is not available, SAE 5W-20 oil may be used. However, it must be replaced with SAE 0W-20 at the next oil change.

      @jimthecarguy  9 лет назад

      Ok

    • @Hank24valve
      @Hank24valve 9 лет назад +1

      mark p The only reason manufacturers recommmend that thin of oil is for the small gas mileage increase not cause its best for the engine running a 0w40 is just common sense, oil temperatures in modern engines exceed 200 degrees and if you ever seen what 20 weight oil is at that temperature its like water, there is not enough viscosity to protect vital engine parts research it for yourself alot of ford owners having lot engine failures due to lack of lubrication to top end of engine due to the light weight oil that is recommended.

    The oil filter should be removed first, because it takes much less time to drain all of the oil out of the filter housing, than it does to drain all of the oil out from the oil pan! I always allow at least one to two hours to drain the oil from the drain plug! This way I get much more of the old oil out than I could, if I only let it drain for say, fifteen minutes!
