Does swapping the paddles also change it so right is downshift and left is upshift, or does it still maintain the "push = upshift, pull = downshift on both sides" ?
I actually researched it a bit more, and found a video that showed the connectors a bit better. The old fashion paddles has three pins, while the new ones only has two pins. So what you do is make sure that the paddle on one side connects to the two pins that causes a downshift and on the other side you make sure to connect the paddle to the two pins that cause an upshift. So you can in fact make the paddles work as they do in the newer cars :)
very nice vid bro ! also got a e89 z4 is there any way you could help me with the exact paddle serial number ? already ordered a pair and it wont fit at all .. ty man
For removing the steering wheel's center airbag, my 2012 US 28i Z4 feels like the two access holes to stick the screwdriver in have some sort of rubber in it. Do you have to penetrate that rubber in order to stick the screwdriver in there, or is my wheel different than yours?
Do you know where to buy replacement paddle shifters? I don't want the new plus and minus, but maybe some after market paddles to replace the factory ones. The brushed aluminum is starting to peel off the paddles on mine and it is quite annoying. I have an 09' z4
I've heard of people installing new aftermarket styles onto their M3's with the DCT, but I'm not sure if those would fit a Z4. It seems like a simple mechanism though, so modding it probably wouldn't be that hard.
Do you have heated steering wheel? Mine doesn't have the heat option, and I just order a heated M sport steering wheel. Can I activate the heating steering wheel? If so, how do I make a switch for the heating function? Thanks.
I don't have the full cold weather package on my car, just the heated seats. So no steering wheel heater. I looked into how hard it would be to add it on now and found that I would need a new steering wheel with the heater option, the button mechanism for the steering column, and the electronics for heater circuit. If you look at realoem.com, you can find all the parts its needs by searching through all the diagrams.
Paddle swap was easy thanks to your vid. saved me 500$ . thanks bro
Nice ! Very good to know we can convert the shifters to new style
Thanks a lot for the video! Was able to remove the airbag on the first try!

Great video, can you please give us the part number for the paddles if you have them?

this modification can also be done on a BMW Z4 (e 89 ) motor's 23i ??
my z4 is a 2015 plate, but I prefer the looks of the old style paddles.
