Still using night mode on p40 pro instead of standard mode. It literally destroys every picture. I use night mode only in pitch black situations. Night mode is a lot grainy in comparison with standard shots.

Have you also compared how both devices were shooting like in night condition , handheld ? Great comparison! I was looking for a such video, to see the difference. Google uses the old camera modules. If they built-in new sensors they can easily be number one on the market.
not as simple as that. They use the old ones as they're optimised software wise. The guy responsible for that has left Google. New hardware would likely result in inferior processing
I feel that after each update the cameras on the P40 Pro change... i could swear that a few months back the P40 Pro was doing better at night... but we never know what to expect after each EMUI update

Great comparison, regarding the portrait mode I prefer the P40 pro's edge detection rather the skin tone of the pixel 5. You can always adjust the colors in a matter of seconds with these smartphones nowadays. Overall you can't go wrong with either phone. Great review!
Disagree on the nighttime pictures from the main lens: I think the P40 Pro captures more details, and they're bit sharper too. Amazed how well the Pixel 5 holds up during daytime through the main lens though. Great video as always.

I am just wondering, if its about the Pixel very cleverly reproducing the memory colors accurately, and tweaking all the rest to make the images more pleasing in a way we can't explain why.
Nice review, but honestly the only reason I stopped watching your reviews is because in all night pics, you use night mode, which is what not most people do taking pics daily, especially indoors. I cannot bother to put on night mode everytime my kids or family is around in the evening.

The difference in audio on the video between the two is noticable. Pixel 5 might not have the camera but it definitely has the p40 beat in audio quality.
Alex have you considered to rotate 180° the Huawei phone and raise up the phone on the stand? This would put the *cameras of both* the devices as close as possible to each other
I have, but it makes it more shaky when taking night pictures....coz I have to hold the phone steady for a few seconds.. like this i can kind of keep both hands on the stand when taking the picutres
Hi Alex, As I told you before, I preferred my Pixel 4XL to this Huawei P40 Pro Plus, I am so disappointed for a £1300 phone. This just confirms to me that the Pixel 5 is better overall on photos and videos. I sent my first P40 Pro Plus back as I thought it was faulty, as the colours and dynamic range were so off! Then the second phone arrived and it was the same, it can’t handle blue sea and sky together, way too blue, and the dynamic range is way too dark in most photos, too many dark shadows, and not clear in the dynamic range. As you can tell I really do not rate this phone, my Huawei P30 Pro was way better as well in every way. I’m put off Huawei phones now, and looking forward to iPhone 12 Pro Max next month. So disappointed and I’m selling on as soon as I get the iPhone next month, plus with no Google services it’s hard with a lot of apps you can’t as yet get, even banking apps, means going to browser to use online banking, putting all details in every time, it’s a pain! The Petal search is not good either, and a lot of apps don’t get updates, feel I wasted £1300 and just hope I can can some money back!

@@Lynn-zw7dr Truth is pixels are one of very few android phones with a more accurate colour profile/contrast. HDR is also good on pixels although not the absolute best. This was the reason I got a pixel 5 despite wanting a better processor, the google image processing is just that good. The find x2 pro has a nice colour profile too though. Iphone will be great but my issue with iphone is it lifts all the shadows giving slightly flat images but still amazing cameras on iphone generally.

They're the same pixel 5 has a bit better video but pictures are identical in all aspects. Of course pixel 5 has the ultra wide but pixel 4 has telephoto. Matter of preference. I sold the 4 and the 5 and kept the P40 Pro without Google services lol
@@RedskullPro I've had the 10 ultra. I kept it 1 week. The software was absolutely awful. Most likely it was because it was the China version. Couldn't cope so I sold it. Great photos but the rest was a joke.
I had the Mi 10 Ultra as well but sold it and kept my p40 pro and got GPS working. I did order the pixel 5 so can't wait to test it against p40 pro. The Xiaomi was a solid device with really wide angle lens but still the p40 outperformed it!
Audio on the video for the Pixel 5 is significantly better than the audio on my Pixel 3...however it is still not as good as the P40. Huawei has a lot of issues IMO, but audio is definitely not one of them. P40 selfie cam is better (for video, not selfies) as well. Night colors seem way better on the Pixel, though night video on the P40 is sharper and it has better stabilization IMO. While Google's digital zoom is amazing for a Digital zoom, it is really obvious that optical is always better. I still bought the Pixel 5. But the Huawei has good hardware. But it really should be stomping the Pixel, because it literally costs almost twice as much ($1300 to the Pixel's $700). And that is not happening IMO. A $700 phone should not be neck and neck with a $1300 phone.

Hey, there are many good smartwatches out there. Check out the Amazfit GTR or the GTR Lite. I also like the Amazfit T-Rex. I should be getting the Huawei Watch GT2 Pro sometimes this week as well
I've heard like 10/10 youtuber said they like the Pixel 5 for their "nature"/"close to original color". But I can guarantee you 9 out of 10 would like the over-brightness/over-saturated photos on social media. And 99.99% of people using phone camera are for convenience, snapshot and social media; the rest 0.01% take phone camera for serious are the youtubers making videos for money.
That's some impressive camera on the P40 pro, and the sound quality seems noticeably better than the Pixel 5. However, slightly off-topic, without Google Apps on the Huawei, and possible difficulties with Android Auto, this could stand against it for some users, IMHO. Alex. When you install Google on the Huawei P40 Pro can you tell me if banking apps work ok. I am currently using a Samsung s20 plus Snapdragon version but missing my Huawei P30 Pro.
My tesco Bank and Lloyd's bank app no problem whatsoever. Barclays has quick app which is essentially the app. Natwest does not work. Getting the apps downloaded is easy (petal Search) but natwest will start but won't login. I suspect eventually Huawei will create codes that mimic Google to make the app believe GMS is installed. Just my hunch.
Well I can say pixel 5 sure the choice in night image and portrait. BTW it still using the same sensor as pixel 4. The software are the main course for the image quality.
Pixel is better at capting colours who are very close to what you actually see, i have the p30 pro and sometimes i want to take pictures close to what i see but the camera software dont let me most of time :/
No change from this guy, he just can't be objective. The Pixel 5 got slaughtered and when since did lowlight require Night mode on? The P40 Pro can produce an outstanding shot in lowlight without you having to stand there like a statue, for the majority of the night mode pics getting binned.
For a "pocket camera" the pictures are awesome either way! in Zoom-mode the P40 Pro shines.

5X zoom pictures on the Pixel 5 are very good comparing to 5X optical zoom on P40 👍anyway stabilization on the Pixel is great especially on 4K 60 fps

Possible. I edit all pictures I post on social media anyway... I like taking pictures as flat as possible and go from there

P40 pro have big advantage as it using large sensor 1/2.8 . Pixel 5 have good software ..but use smaller sensor 1/2.55
sorry, I think some photos from Huawei are not right focused...
Pixel is better at capting colours who are very close to what you actually see, i have the p30 pro and sometimes i want to take pictures close to what i see but the camera software dont let me most of time :/

The Pixel 5 got slaughtered and when since did lowlight require Night mode on? The P40 Pro can produce an outstanding shot in lowlight without you having to stand there like a statue, for the majority of the night mode pics getting binned.
