Hi Friends, Mixing with compression is a necessity. Every top level mixer uses compressors. Every professional recording studio has at least a handful of outboard compressors. Every DAW comes stock with several compressor plugins. And many of the mixing tutorials found online teach you how to mix using a compressor. If you've ever struggled with using or understanding compression, raise your hand! Don't worry, admitting it is the first step. We've all been there. Have no fear. Today our good friend, Rob Mayzes, is going to clear it all up for you! Have a marvellous time compressing! Many thanks Warren
Those closing remarks about sticking with your stock compressor is the big takeaway in my opinion. Mixing with stock plugins made me learn faster, because I focused on listening, and adjusting my techniques to get to where I wanted. Thanks Warren and Rob!
Great stuff Warren! It's nice to see some tips for Logic Pro on here, but what's great is this is good information about using compressors no matter what DAW you are in.
Thank you Warren and thank you Rob, even though I am not a Logic user, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative video, it's great to watch an instructional video that translates to so many other platforms....Excellent!!!!!
Thanks for this great summary on these compressors......This gets my bookmark for future reference until it becomes second nature. I went in and saved these different compressors as the classics they were modeled after so when I pull up my user presets I have 1176, LA2A, DBX, Focusrite, SSL, etc....That's pretty cool to have these stock in Logic! When you use the soft distortion on these you can start to hear some spanky console bus compression coming in.....
You could make a video about the types of compressors (opto, fet, vca, ..) and how they affect the signal and in what way ? to know in which cases one or the other is better
Hi Matthew, yes indeed! All the techniques here work in every DAW! Luckily almost every plug in manufacturer makes the plug ins available in every DAW. However of course DAWs like Pro Tools and Logic have their own stock plug ins, however the principals are exactly the same! Have a marvellous time compressing! Many thanks Warren
9 minutes in and already this is possibly one of the best explanations of a compressor...and i've been using them for years! marvellous

Great tutorial! I mainly use the presents with minor adjustments but this will definitely get me out of using presets.
