Welcome to PART 3 of our Bush Mechanic Cheap 4WD Challenge! Shauno and Jocko have bought & built 2 cheap 4WD for under $5,000 in less than 24 hours! Now it's time to test them on the toughest 4WD tracks in Australia in the Glasshouse Mountains

A few things.....
Firstly I'm in love with Daryl. Have I been converted to Nissans? We have to see more of the big GQ please. Maybe a Daryl and Shorty trip would be great?
Secondly love the budget offroad series. One of the best. You fellas keep topping yourselves, well done. Next time maybe a three-way budget build-off and get Cahill involved!

I think cracking the 500 thousand sub mark has definitely only made the boys work harder, making some sick videos! Love the work boys 😎🔥
Some of my favourite parts of this show, is when Shawno does a cook up for everyone and they sit over the fire and chat-- since that is why I get into my rig and hit the woods.. so, it was a shame they didn't get to do more camping on this trip.

This was awesome. Who doesn't love a budget challenge. I think people tend to forget how capable a relatively stock 4wd (especially the old ones) can be when driven well.

That was awesome guys. Loved that content. The winner for me is the Daryl without lockers it had to work harder than the lux. So for me, even though I hate the Nissan winning, that's the one that had it.
My suggestion... get some lockers and a winch on Daryl, and keep featuring him in the episodes to come.
Why no love for the Nissan? Looks and acts like a beast.

I can’t believe how the hilux made it through the mud with that clearance and lack of MT tires...and when Jessi crawled up without lockers looked like magic.....

Australians don't off road. They path find. Literally. They done turning survival-ism into a sport. LOL. I LOVE it. If I ever get a chance to travel again Australia is definitely on my top 1 now. These guys made me see another side, the bush side.

Shauno, if you get an rc truck an rc4wd yota suits you but get a traxxas trx to crush the trails.
If you guys do more more budget builds i'd love to see what you guys would have for old jeeps and Ford broncos down there.

Both trucks did some impressive drives, when Jocko pulled the Patrol through the mud he worked those gears and Shauno's co drive pulled off some really good drives too in open diffs
Budget rig challenges are just the best. Doesn´t even matter what type of rig, off road, drag racing, don´t care! Always super great fun. And its great to see Jocko back as a regular on this challenge, i enjoy him just as much as Shaun and Graham. Great Chemistry, guys.

This whole series was freakin' EPIC. Both vehicles impressed a lot and showed how capable they can be with just few choice mods. Hard to pick a winner but I think Darrell showed how much you can do with big tires and suspension where the hi-lux showed how important lockers are. So for me Darrell gets the W, but it was super close. Can't wait for the next episode, keep the great content coming.
Excellent entertainment. I hope Shauno and Jocko keep their Truck and upgrade them for future use. Glad Jocko wasn't hurt in that roll over.
This was so good! Been watching for about a year now, here in the US. Hard to call a winner, because both rigs and all drivers did pretty well in their own right. But I just gatta give the edge to Jocko. No clearance, AT tires and a manual meant he certainly had his work cut out for him at all times!

I believe these two rigs should get a proper build, they have earned it, but nothing crazy, keeping it mild.

I saw an RC crawler in the back seat! Heck ya! Been building tiny trucks, mostly Cruisers, for 10 years, I love it!
The instant raging adrenaline Shawn gets every time he pulls a sweet move, priceless. @4:46 is a nice example. Brings the kid out in him.

this really does show you reasonable grippy tyre with little or no lift and a winch will get you anywhere you want to go , we have over modified our 4wd vehicles for years now, we used to drive those track on 16 split rims with the old dunlop road grippers barely 6 inch wide rubber
to be honest, very best part of that video for me is commitment of having fun in that cheap cars.
and the camp fire grilling action for sure 😎🤟

this just goes to show that you dont really need expensive 4wd and over the top mods to have fun on tracks. i think i will put a winhc on my steel bull bar and have a snorkle already and that will be it. i dont need fancy cars. now i am very happy with my 2006 dual cab triton. it is 5 speed manaul on 32 inch tyres. i dont think it has a lift kit but heyyyy cant get everything in one life time.

Loved the bush mechanic challenge it was amazing to watch and to me everyone is a winner and as long as u all had fun. U boys were like little kids in a candy store on the tracks. Shauno r u going to keep Daryl? When do we get to see the dirty 30? Because I can't wait to see it again and it flexing through the tracks.
Great stuff. Do more of these budget build challenge. Maybe next time, do a budget build on one that you'd actually like to keep. This is like a 4WD version of the Top Gear Challenges. Keep 'em coming.
Great driving guys, as always. I loved seeing two pretty much stock, old and well worn 4WD's. It was really good to see you in these old trucks and I for one would like to see more of the same. I'd really love to see a review on the long-term use of a 4wd systems lokka, i see how great they work when they have first been put in a car but i never see any vids from someone saying they have had one for a year and this is what's happened
I've used Lokka on my front diff for many years now. Then it was due to budget constraints as I had so much more to do on the list. I've added Harrop E-Locker to the rear a few years ago and since I had it the GQ has been through so many really tough expeditions in Borneo.
Since then the GQ has been fitted with Superior Engineering full 6" lift suspension kit, the full treatment of UFI 21L, 12mm fuel pump etc etc. Guess what - I haven't bothered changing the front Lokka. I eventually will though, as the steering can be quite hard on very technical tracks. But it never, ever gave me problems in terms of not working as it was intended to.
As someone that drives a Hilux with the 2.8 (3L) engine, I am surprise how little to no smoke that Lux generates. Greetings from Panama and keep it with the adventures!

Awesome video Shauno. Always good when Jocko is along for the trip, and Jessie too. You guys have so much fun, I can't help but have a great time watching your epic drives. I hope to get over to Australia some day and check out the beautiful country in a 4WD. We do have some beautiful trails in the USA too but your beach camping is just epic. Most beaches here are not open to driving like they seem to be there. Take care fellas!

I'm kind of in the middle here, driving a Toyota most of my life(99 Hilux, and current 94 80 double locked)this Nissan AKA "The Pony" did really GOOD. but the Hilux is a Hilux and you can't take that away from him..even on 29th .

I’ve loved seeing you guys wheeling some “everyday” type rigs that most people would have as their daily drive. Goes to show that you don’t need to spend big dollars to get out there. 4 wheel driving is the winner !

i have run those lockers in my front diff for 10 years now and i have listened to people say how the steering is heavy onroad since they put them in and all sorts of rubbish , i do remind them that they have free wheeling hubs and the diff is not even turning when on road lol

I wanna say I'd like to see these vehicles with more mods but the fact that they were so close to stock is kind of what gave them their charm.
