I remember when this tank was going toe to toe with the Leopard... Then they buffed the Leo to have 420 alpha. After that, the AMX had basically no purpose, and throwing it in the collector tab a couple years later just cemented this tank as a "never-to-be-buffed" pile of outclassed garbage... How sad for such an iconic tank...
From seeing the gameplay in this vid makes me wanna try it out... but idk the games here are probably cherry picked to not show the flaws of the tank I like fast mts, I play the leo, obj 140, bc25t, etc. Its just what makes me feel skeptical is that ammo with the really weak pen and mid shell velocity
The amx 30 prototype (whatever it’s called, the tier 8 special reward tank) is actually a lot of fun to play tho. Works a lot better at tier 8 than tier 10
So, in my humble opinion, here is what is bad and good about amx (with food and all field mods) : Good things: -6.15 reload -36.5% camo -470 view range -65 top speed -great gun handling without Vstab (12 will tank moving, 4 when turret turn) -a somertime working turret armor when you peek a boo (not so great if the ennemy wait for you) Overall, the amx is great on map such has westfield, studanski, cliff, when the amx can get close and use bushes to stay hudden but ready to use his great dpm at mid to close range. A simple vent+rammer+ exhaust is a all round build for this tank in my opinion. Bad aspect : You need to use food, otherwise the gun is not accurate enough -low accuracy (35 without food, 32 with food) -low pen 248, you will get annoyed if you try to pen some common heavy at their lower plates or sides, like russian armor or german lower plate, especially from 300 m or more -bad rng, simply bad rng, some shoot will miss when a is7 would had snap shoot and still hit -bad terrain resistances, the amx has 1 in medium and soft, it feel a litle bit slow to start moving. -huge weak point, it realy hold you back when you try to fight in close combat, in maps like murovenka or seren coast, as you will only be able to shoot once and run, otherwise you'll get hut with heat.
Personally I'd buff the moving dispersion by half, buff the accuracy to 0.3 and buff view range to 420m. Make it at least feel good while having bad ammo
Main drawbacks compared to Centurion, the American meds and STB-1: rather poor penetration and shell velocities and an unimpressive -8 deg gun depression. Pros: faster than any of the others in terms of forward and reverse speed, esp. noticeable on hard and medium terrains, combo of camo values (15,28/11,46) & viewrange (410m) is arguably the best in order to also be able to spot, 2nd best dpm after STB-1 (and with a bit higher alpha than the Japanese), turret traverse stabilization is simply amazing.
You said it when you mentioned the shell types. The biggest problems are the shell velocity on both apcr and heat and their penetrations. If you bring it in line with the other mediums and give the tank a best in tier viewrange (the cupola deserves to have that.) This tank would be perfectly fine.
Imho, i'd treat this tank like a TVP T50/51, you dont play around with its armour. Instead of bursting a clip, you instead find enemies that you can out DPM. I know its hard and not ideal everytime, but when you do find these, its where this tank shine...
The one upside to the massive cupola is that the way the game engine handles visibility and spotting is that there needs to be a los to the commanders sight on top of your tank for you to spot someone. So while you can still be shot and take damage, you can much more effectively peak and spot at range bc you don’t need to expose your turret at all to see everything, even on a hill looking down.
Honestly you should try a secondary spotting setup. My record spotting is on this tank, almost 10k. It has good cammo and view range, and once you get a Bounty Noise Exhaust it's cammo gets near tier 10 LT zone
Dpm is crazy for 390 alpha and suprised you got so many bounces, i don't understand why it and the t62A, another iconic cold war vehicule, were taken out of the tech tree, wish wg just buffed them and brought them back they fully deserve to be there
I didnt play for 4 years and came back to all these changes. I noticed i had the amx 30 prototype unlocked and loved it. I dont really understand complaining about not having higher pen for frontal shots, but then I've also been almost exclusively a LT player sinces I started playing back in 2013 I think, until recently with the amx 30 and the Ju-Nu and Ju-To
30B needs the same standard and premium rounds as the Cent AX and M48. It's not meta but it's really not that bad to play, use the speed and DPM and you're set.
30b was originally intended to be a slightly better armoured leopard with worse overall stats and some occasional lucky bounces that you never see with leopard.
WG nerfed the AMX 30 and the 30b into oblivion back in 2018. Both tanks used be super fun ridgeline snipers with laser guns. Basically they are the French version of a Leo 1. But WG said no. U can't have fun FR tanks! So they nerfed the accuracy, pen, dispersion, and shell velocity. Plus made the guns derpy so you couldn't snipe & move, snipe & move, snipe & move. They wanted you to BRAWL with this thing! Can you imagine???? In return WG supposedly buffed the turret armor... yeah right! Like what's the point of adding 100mm to the gun mantle when a t5 can literally SHRED UR cupola and 200 pen AP can rip through your cheeks. When u were sniping at 400m+ this didn't matter! WG completely wrecked the French meds so everyone stopped playing them 6yrs ago.
I got the tier 9, but the issue there is the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the gun. It drove me nuts. The gun on the tier 10 seems to behave itself, judging from your video. Maybe it got a silent tune up. Anyway, well played. Oh and it was ccmpared to the Leopard 1, back then. With more DPM and mobility and less accurate. But the Leopard 1 is now miles ahead I think. This tank is the joint project of French and Germans, basically the counterpart of Leopard 1. While, Leo here in WG is just way too better than this tanks specs, total WG bullshayt.
Short answer: no*. It was power creeped already when it was still in tech tree and due to ammo and cupola it will be painful to play. The gun is typical old french gun - pretty accurate when you're fully aimed, dog shit when not. *unless you have plenty of credits, are a good player, want a challenge or like tanks that actually existed over some "handkerchief blueprint" ones.
who am i to judge, but this tank has one of the best gun handlings out there. I would change stabilizer for something else, perhaps impoved accuracy or smth
It does make you wonder if there is going to be a French medium line at some point, as there is a tier 3, then the two light / medium BC 25t's at tier 9 and 10. So having a normal 4 man medium crew trained up may be worth while.
@@stefankatsarov5806 There's a Renault D2, an SRA, an SRB, an FCM 21, an AMX 39, a load of B1 and G1 variants, an AMX tracteur and a few others listed on WW2 drawings website, all of which look no worse than the Type 4 or Type 5 heavies from Japan, and are just as valid as most of the Russian ones we have. It's just whether they think they would be popular or not

30b has the worst gun, it only has better reload (6.15 reload with food and basic gun rammer) compared to other meds, it still has good stat to show even if it's not perfect. Vs leopard: amx shoot slightly faster in between 1 to 2 second faster depending o' your load out, amx also have 2% more camo (standard exhaust and fie'd mod give leo 34% to leo and 36.5% to amx). Vs centurion ax: amx. Got a way better camo.
most tier 10s would have 400mm+ of HEAT actually, but that would make armor completely useless and thats not good for heavies. Also historical accuracy and WoT are like water and oil.

I also has a super unique gun that made whit the idea to use speacial HEAT shells that dont lose pen across distance giving it over 400mm pen

Well the AMX 30 is an IRL tank still ised today so it woud be better if it came back instead of WG adding a new made up line.

The only part I would argue in this is your opinion on the Amx 30. That tank is leagues better tier for tier than the 30b
