Awesome! I'm getting an M1 Mac mini because I really can't afford or otherwise justify an M1 MacBook Air, even though I feel that with the M1 the MacBook Air has finally come into it's own. This is exactly what the MacBook Air always wanted to be. With its RAM and I/O limitations, the M1 feels a bit limiting on the Mac mini or the MacBook Pro, and there will be up-specced versions of those, but it's right at home on the MacBook Air and I really think I should be getting one. It's so nice to see that I needn't give up portability when I get my Mac mini. Thank you so much for this. Wonderful 'proof-of-concept.' I'm sold!

Totally going to get this battery pack- since I have Luna Display already- and definitely prove them wrong, in this extremely trivial and first-world problem. Thank you for having fun with this and sharing your authentic vibes :D

But traveling with it was an issue, versus traveling with a MacBook, because I've got to be able to set up microphones and whatnot to record while I'm on the go. I think this is the solution!
Hey! Thanks, interesting video, can you tell us how long the battery lasted? I have opted for the Mac mini m1+ iPad solution myself and I plan to run it on a charger for simultaneous video and audio recording (multichannel, via external camera + audio interface). Also, what kind of workload was on the system in your setup? Just video recording? Thank you!

@@ellerbe_designs so my MacBook pro is aging, I would soon be going for the mini and use my iPad as the screen, that saves me a lot of money but definitely I would need a power source. Currently I'm on my MacBook pro but for someone in budget and who already owns an iPad, this is a great way to save some cash. The Apple screens are definitely richer than any ips monitors for color and dynamic range of picture quality. :)
heya Tausif, have you tried the Xreal glasses within the context of a portable setup, its basically the next step for the M1 mac mini! im unsure if the Luna dongle& Ipad display is even required... as the xreal glasses become powered via the usb-c bus
Apple should have a DC remote power connector (what, 12V?) so you don't have to convert to AC and then back to DC for the electronics inside. Mini Macs are known for their low power consumption. They should leverage this with a way to remotely power them. I know, buy a laptop then, but all it would take is a single connector.
I am really going to have this combo I am wondering about the built in mic, can you use the Ipad mic for Mac mini? Can you call video on Zoom or Teams?
Apple should just put Mac OS on the iPad, throw in a dock that connects to a display a la nintendo switch, and have a touch macbook/desktop combo. Since their main product right now I would say is the M1, and iPads already have m1
excellent experiment!! this sort of experiment is great to see the M1 Mac mini in operation in a portable setup!! thanks for the demonstration!! Can the ipad be connected without the use of the Luna dongle? ie. via direct lightening or usb-c cable to hdmi

I mean, Miani already stuck one in an iMac, why not do the opposite and go small and get the most out of the portability and power?
