- SSTV or slow scan television is a method hams use to send images over the air. I demonstrate sending an image over VHF using a Baofeng UV-5r and Kenwood TH-D74.

Amazing! Sir for the haters of Baofeng you can just stop it! Baofeng brought me to the whole hidden world of radio.
I used SSTV and a raspberry pi with a UV5R, even added a DTMF controller ... as a driveway alarm for my 1,600 FT driveway to know when someone was coming or a package was dropped off 73!
Brian I believe you are the new renaissance man of ham radio. Your approach is refreshing and I believe your channel will inspire new hams, carry on!
I like how you show that things go wrong in ham radio, and how you fixed it, instead of editing. Subscribed ✔👏
Have a slow scan net Sundays in my local repeater, gonna try this setup, thanks
Let us know if it works.
Hi good video , I had the same problem setting up for a fox hunt transmitter and found that if I turned down ( to 1 ) the vox sensitivity it worked fine , that was on a UV-5R and a UV-82 , same problem , until I turned them down. It was transmitting and would chop out just like your SSTV signal was doing . Try that and see if it works for you.
I added one of your videos to my new facebook group, Analog Ham.
I tested SSTV with my OnePlus 6 transmitting (the easy part) through a Kenwood TH-F7E to a tevion walkie-talkie and Samsung Galaxy S2 running cyanogenOS (think "unofficially supported version of android 12") and it worked like a charm! No wires/interfaces required, I just needed to hold PTT while transmitting..
Sending memes has never been more exciting. This is like the internet without the internet.
Need more memes over SSTV!!
This is excellent! I always wondered how you could to this. Thank you for a wonderful lesson.
I love these videos! Keep em coming and keep being you.
I like how you have the baeofeng and the th-74 playing together that’s like a citron pulling a mustang
Check the TOT (transmit timeout) settings
Nice work. This is one thing I plan on learning. would also love to listen into the ISS at some point.
The Kenwood is so sweet
Hi !! Greetings from Argentina !!! How can I use two arduinos and two baofeng BF-999 instead of smartphones to send data over-the-air ?? Thanks !!
Brian, I love your videos! Keep it up! You’ve given us some great tips. Ham radio is more fun with you! 73 de W3DNQ
It's working just like a teletype only in real time and with graphical color picture quality! If you had the need to photo id someone for security reasons, and over a 1.5 mile distance per say; you just might be able to pull it off!
Very cool, thanks!
How did you do that
Honestly? It's a lot simpler than the other solutions you listed.
Just think of everything that has to exist between your two devices in order to "just send it to the cloud". If you're on 4/5G, you need at least one massive tower (which is just an overly complicated RF repeater, in the end), you need to take that signal to a local switching station to get over to the internet, then you need to go along the internet backbone, through a bunch of very expensive router's and switches, then finally you enter a data center somewhere...
Where you have to go through a bunch of stacks of switches and routers and firewalls, to eventually get to a server that's running specialized software.
SSTV is much, much simpler. ;)
My understanding is the VOX is terrible on the Baofeng.
Love it. Thank you
Wich Apolo mission?
whats the link for the cable
Could the tablet and the Kenwood not connect bluetooth?
The Bluetooth on the Kenwood is limited. I can connect it for some sound like APRSdroid but not many of my headsets.
awesome
