Bike Wheel Problems? Try Replacing your Hub!

- Michael from Ivanhoe Cycles presents a tutorial on how to replace the Freehub of a Bicycle. Often we get people come into our store that have been told they need to replace their whole wheel, when actually the problem is simply in the hub. Knowing when this is the case, and then being able to do something about it yourself will save you a lot of time and money.
We hope you find this video helpful and feel free to send us a message with any video requests or suggestions!
Thanks for watching!

I thought the hub and free hub were one piece, so I've learnt something, thanks.
I'm looking to replace the entire hub, not just the freehub. Please rename your video. It's so frustrating to watch numerous videos all with the same incorrect title. Your not he only ones. Beside that, very good video and clear instructions. I'll come back if it becomes useful to me. Keep up the good content, just be more specific in the wording for everyone's sake.
In lockdown and my friend lent me his Volt. The only thing was my entry-level road bike was not compatible. Whilst I had my bike wheel off I thought I'd give it a little clean - MISTAKE! In short, thanks! This vid helped me get the back wheel back in its rightful place
Awesome. Just what I was looking for. Really great video man. Saved me a lot of bucks.
Love the backing track
9:04 the wheel clearly rocked a bit backwards. But you didn't adjust it or was that ok?
No .
Great stuff...How do I know which Freehub I need for a Shimano Deore M475 hub?
Very helpful, wish I remembered to take note of the order of the washers before I took it all apart . Everytime 😹👍
#feels!
Great video. Thank you Michael!
Nice info. I"m having issues finding a hub or rear axle for a '93 Rincon Mountain bike. Would you happen to know what size axle these use ? The bearings were missing and the axle bumps when you turn it when it is tightened down. I'd like to find an axle with bearings and such that will fit it. It is 7 inches long.
That was a great video. Thanks. If I am ever in Melbourne I will visit but unfortunately, I am 10,533 miles away. :-) (in the UK). I liked the practical advice ("just do it up tight"). It encourages people to get interested in fixing their bikes (which can only be good for cycling).
Ha! Well hello from the other side of the world :-) Yes, please do visit if you are ever in our neck of the woods. And thank you for your feedback.
Very informative. Thanks you
You're welcome :-)
I can’t remove the cassette, any suggestions? Thanks
Great video
But the music - sinister horror funk movie soundtrack?
Yeah sorry about that haha we will get better music for future vids
Music was mad imo
went to mine local shop to change brake pads, says dont have , ask me to change to shimano brake set, lol , trying to pull a fast one on me..... need more proper mech like this dude who can repair
Amen!
Had a vaguely similar experience myself a few years ago. My bike was making funny noises which I thought came from the bottom bracket. Emailed a local cycle shop who quoted me £50 for a new bb (you can get them for about £10 in the UK) so decided they could get stuffed. Visited a bike co-op who sourced the problem in a matter of minutes- loose bolts on the panniers. The bike co-op is now my first port of call.
Excellent content and information explained well. Good for seasoned mechanics, not a novice.
And I agree the camera should have been way closer to show the activity and the parts.
I've subscribe. Thank you.
Definitely noted for next time. Thanks for the feedback!
i got a miraco bike with ½" axles. i want to put troxel trackmasters on it. does anybody know wat size hub replaces a bendix76?
misleading title. u DON"T replace the hub. do u have a vid showing how 2 do it?
Wish you showed us the old freehub body, so we could have seen what was wrong with it.
I can make a note of that for next time we do a similar tutorial, no problem.
This would be a far better video if the camera wasn't 700 feet from the hub.
You can't see the parts when they are removed, nor the precise positioning of the tools when they are used.
Get a nice, bright light, position it near the action site, zoom in the camera and it'll be a lot more helpful.
Fair enough - we will aim to improve this for future videos :-)
That's *not* a hub replacement. It's a hub servicing.
Fair call
What the he*k are they saying they always said freehub booty here???
Huh? You mean freehub body?
@@IvanhoeCycles oh iam sorry i thought it was freehub ***** it was actualy body sorry
I was just finding how to make you hub louder😊
This reply was 1month ago my mtb is already loud
You presume everyone has all these specialized tools, all of which are unnecessary.
We're just doing the video in our workshop using the tools available - all of which are available to the public as well in our store. *shrug* Just how we did it!
Was he supposed to use visegrips because other people might not have proper tools? Other people may have run out of toilet paper and may need to improvise but as long as I’ve got some I’m using proper tp.
Bahahaha very true
@@sirmixalot3332 what's wrong with using your hand and fingers as tp? 🤔
Good luck with removing the lockring without the right tool. What do you use instead of cone spanners? You're no Sheldon Brown so get over yourself.
