- Private GPs are cashing in by selling sick notes for as little as £25, allowing people to take time off work and head to the beach.
NHS consultants working at private clinics are signing off sick notes for between £25 and £55, it’s been revealed.
In a shocking undercover investigation by the Mail on Sunday, a reporter secured sick notes from seven different doctors after claiming to be stressed or anxious. One doctor even suggested two weeks off after the reporter mentioned wanting time at the beach due to the hot weather.
The note was issued by a doctor from an Australian-owned company offering sick notes and other services like specialist referrals.
The company website boasts that over 10,000 Brits have used their service to get medical letters, with doctors enjoying “competitive pay” and “flexible hours” for issuing them.

They should be ashamed, they are already cutting short appointments and unwilling and unable to see patients.

@@craigrothwell6144 I know this happens and it is a big problem, especially considering many patients are desperate for these appointments and are often forced to wait for weeks to see a GP and months or years to see a specialist. To make this even worse, the NHS admin frequently fail to send out appointment notifications to patients, so of course theypatients fail to turn up and are blamed for missing the appointment. This has happened to me and to several of my friends, so I'm thinking it must be fairly common place.
American here with a British employee. I believe it. Got note from employee so quickly and for ridiculous reason compared to other countries.
That's why they only bother 'working' 3 days a week. It's much more lucrative flogging sicknotes sitting in your underpants.
Dealing with the benefits brigade week in and week out must make doctors depressed and anxious :)

This will definately screw things up for people who are genuinely sick and need a genuine sick note, despicible fraud carried out by private doctors. Do they do Bent MOT's to?
Agree many people plod on and only get a sick note when at deaths door.

When I spoke to the doctor about my mental health, it was over the phone and then he spoke over me so🤷♀️. every sicknote I had in the past were legitimate, I never paid for a sicknote.

Really winds you up when you go back to a physically demanding job after the 8 weeks minimum after an operation on your spine and people get sick notes for a day at the beach . Wtf .
I'm 47, I work in the industrisl sector here in the UK, I've worked full time since leaving the education system when I was 21. In all those 26, almost 27 years I've only ever had one day off work in sickness. I have had zero days of sickness off work in the last 19 years.
There has been times I've been mentally down and not wanted to go to work, there's times I've had aches and pains but I've just sucked it up and pushed through.
It's just what has to be done as an adult to pay the mortgage and all the other bills.
Nobody said life would be easy and the world doesn't owe anyone a living. People need to toughen up.
when my parents passed away after caring for them for 7 years everyday I was totally lost without anything to keep me busy, I didnt greive their loss and I needed some help from the NHS mental health service, the wait was quite long to see someone and when I asked why that was they said all the emergency services, police, ambulance, doctors, nurses and fire service staff also use the service and currently the system is completely choked up with emergency staff needing guidance.
Hurry up, folks, the NHS specials are on. Buy one, get two free!

How on earth are people managing to SEE a doctor in person to facilitate the handover of the sick note?! I've not managed to see a G.P. since 2019.

Hard to get an appointment. A lot of employers take disciplinary action on sick I'm allowed 9 days sick a year. Anymore and my job is threatened. So if I'm sick for 5 days let's say I have to lie to a Dr and say its 7 to then get a sick note. The don't back date so have to take another week off on sick note just to get it and like I said I need a sick nite to stop disciplinary action

I always that when GP's sign sick notes, they do so with the statement confirming that they have seen/examined that patient that day and that in their opinion they are not fit for work??

Sick leave comes with consequences such as monitoring and ultimately dismissal.
I think many people just need to he real and find better jobs. Many more plod on without thanks when they are not fit to work which causes big problems.

I got no issue with someone doing this to take a mental health day, or for a cold where a visit to a doctor is not needed. I'd question if it was frequent and only Mondays or Fridays (had a coworker who got hauled over the coals for abusing the system that way)

Did they have a notice saying you would be charged. I know you are charged for certain letters etc, but this is usually advertised in the surgery.

Wish I could get off sick worse now than 7 year ago get no help regarding mental n physical help got to stop smoking to get rid of pain. Ok nothing up with me I guess but meds are a killer to come off
i have been unable to get an appointment at my small town practice, end of NOV! This type of thing really does trickle down, and those like me that are disabled get vilified. I would LOVE to work, I worked as a nurse for 20+ years before being medically retired.

I'm really sorry. i've was in such situation 15 months ago. i had just 2 months to live till a friend told me about a healer who helped me. Him cured me, I don't know how him did it. but i owe him my life. His the reason i'm alive today.

I had 3 months paid "holiday" on the sick when my last employer srpung it on me they were making me redundant but wanted to know if could i fit the equipment with an employee of the company taking my job as there was only myself who knew the current system.

Sick note for £25😂. I was an international student from Saudi Arabia, and I had a problem with Saudi Government. The Saudi government bought the doctor to return me to Saudia by false accusations of mental health 😂. That doctor still log into my medical record while I am not living in his town, and he is trying to influence other doctors to report me crazy, and all NHS complaints departments refused to ask him staying a way from my records. I don't use NHS because it became a tool aginst me. That happened in Nottingham 😂😂😂😂.I am still facing sobatgin in all my records in UK. I tried to travel to Canada, but Saudia refused to give me my new passport saying I am not Saudi anymore, and also the Home Office refused my asylum case. No lawyer accepted me. I am lonely in UK. It is hard to face all of that alone. I have cumulative enemies as I have been defending myself in so many levels:education, NHS, Police, asylum seeker systems, etc.The housing company through NHS requested without my permission my police record for the 4th years before claiming asylum to blackmailing me of my past,and to defend themselves as I complained about them. They found nothing. All my records every were are clean until I became asylum seeker in UK, I knew what they did is against UK law , but no one stops them as I am marginal person in UK.

Yes, because Saudia is safe country, and I am lonely in UK. So, they wanted to return me under legal cover. You can not imagine the distress . They made my family works against me. I was trying to figure everything by myself. All of that because Saudi students Office in London reported my tweets to the Saudi government. Saudi government consider claiming asylum a crime as it is a stigma. They promote that Saudis like the Saudi system that does not give Saudi citizens modern human rights based on 21Century.
I lived in asylum seeker hotels, and once they tried to jail me for following the rules, making malicious arrest. I am respectful normal person. I do not drink, I do not make noise. The housing company worked with the suspicious doctor against me, so they were making problems in the hotel to pick up the seconds of video editing, and create story aginst me.
They were trying to put me in MH hospital more than once without real mental health issues. I collected my medical record and I found so many respectful doctors during the first attempts who did for me mental assessment, said She is clearly normal person, and then thos agents started hiring someone to do it without assisting, I do not want to do assisting, I did enough, those criminals need investigater. In the same time, they wanted to make me a criminal for nothing. The housing company was moving me from city to another to find doctors, police officers, nurses would help them in their plan. Most NGO wouldn't help me, legal aid solicitor would not accept my asylum case as it is against Saudi government.
I was in difficult circumstances for five years in UK, and I came from Saudia that does not have constitution system.
All my complaints were turned on me. I changed my religion to Christianity as I need to feed my self spiritually. Islamic cuminites in UK have loyalty to Islamic countries , and they are against a woman wanting to survive.

Put in a request online with my GP surgery, and a doctor looks at my case (spinal degeneration etc) and issue a sicknote.
Shouldnt be able to get a sicknote unless youve seen the doctor personnally and they know your case.

Low moods with no confidence and sleep problems
He will need to right employment placement which caters for his needs
Which I worry about as he is currently home schooled by the council as has been since he was 14 because their were no schools that could cater for his needs
He passed his maths and English and is now studying computer hardware and software
He currently gets pip but no mental health support now he is 20
I suffer black out I have for 17 years I’ve been more worried about taking care of my son and supporting him as I have no other family to help me I e put my own health last I don’t get any support I work and have done for 30 years
I Agree with you and I'm disabled under mental health I might not be able to work a normal job but tht don't mean I can't do nothing so im trying to run a reptile rescue center as a charity if you can't work it don't mean you have to be useless I'm trying my best and struggling but lest I'm trying to something to give bk to the community the country has given me benefits (for now) and I don't intend to squander that I appreciate the help but I have no intention to 'play the system'

Thats a fucking joke and probably a lie, my veteran husband (54 yrs old) has suffered 2, thats 2 strokes this year, since April and has not been able nor will be able to see our Doctor until the end of September! We have been supplied 4 sick notes. 2 from his hospital stays and 2 from his rehabilataion team other than that we have been totally alone with absolutely no extra help whatsoever!!! Paid for or not!!!!
