    Emu facts: you don't make a nest for them. They pick a spot that they feel comfortable with and will provide camoflaging cover for the male and the eggs. She will lay one a day, until done and the eggs will be open to the elements, perhaps lightly covered with leaves. Once the female has completed laying her clutch, she calls the male to sit. The male does not eat, and rarely drinks for the entire brood cycle. This keeps his scent minimal, and prevents excessive fouling of the nest. The nest will be well away from their feed source, as spilled grain also is an attractant for vermin. The female patrols the perimeter. The male will occassionally get up, stretch and move eggs around, but does not leave the nest.

      Should the emus be eating poultry feed? I was told they need a special food more like bird food but not regular bird food but one made for emus and ostrich. I did research years ago as we looked into raising them for meat but then my dad decided to stick with cows.

    You all have done a wonderful job raising the puppies. It was so great to follow it with you. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to the videos. 😊 hugs to all from Southern California.

    Rachel is doing a great job with Russell. The biggest (and best) thing is that she is keeping her commands simple and clear. When giving Russell a command she is GIVING a command and not constantly talking. You can talk and love up on a dog AFTER the command has been successfully followed by the dog. Not before or during the command. This makes it clear to to dog what is expected and does not confuse them.

      Leiski as well. Even if they are good with basic commands it doesn't hurt to reinforce them. He also would like the 1 on 1.

    My 4 year be old Husky/Border Collie eats twice a day but only 3/4 of a cup kibble each time. She is not overweight at all. She has a shiny coat and is very healthy. She runs 9 km a day w my son. The worst thing you can do is over feed. Weight once put on will be hard to remove. More illness with too much weight. More beneficial to keep them a little hungry. Ours gets some treats in between-like pieces of apple/carrot/cucumber.
    The reason Russel behaves so well for Rachel is because she’s consistent. He knows what will please her and he acts to that goal. He’s amazing. He immediately sits in front of Rachel w/o her even saying anything. It’s okay Kevin that Rachel does this, she’s just good at that kind of training. Whatever he learns from Rachel will pay off for you as well in the future. He is an LGD but teaching him will not undo his instinct. Best luck for all of it. Rachel accept the term “professional “ cause your results show you know what you’re doing. ❤❤

    The dogs need to be fed twice a day but not the volume you’re feeding. They are used to 2 x day, so they’ll be hungry 2 x day once you get to the correct, smaller volume.
    BTW: Super happy you’re training come and sit first. In an emergency, they’re the commands you need the most, in addition to stay when you need them to stay where they are for safety.

    • @serafinobueti7154
      @serafinobueti7154 3 месяца назад +2

      '' Stay '' is the most important and foundational command. Always start there. Stand facing the front of the dog while he is sitting. Let the leash be slacked. Then take a step or 2 back, hold your palm up towards him and announce ''Stay.'' If he moves, correct him by going towards him, have him sit again. And repeat. And repeat. As he learns, keep moving back farther and farther away, correcting when necessary. Eventually, as he learns to stay put, then start teaching him to come, and as he arrives, sit. Then you give him a treat if you want. ( Personally, I prefer giving praise and gentle pets as opposed to treats. You never run out of praise and the dog never runs out of loving it.) Keep moving farther and farther away. Once he learns all those commands, Sit, Stay, Come, Sit and has them down pat, commence teaching him to ''Heel'' by having him walk alongside you, (NOT behind you), on your left side always, leash in left hand(leaving your right hand free to carry a firearm or whatever), as he walks near your side, keep the leash short, steady and firm out just in front of his field of vision, with just enough pressure to keep him near (12-24 inches) your left leg, knee, hip. Start by announcing ''Heel,'' then walking several feet, and then ''Halt'' or ''Ho'' and have him stop right next to you, and as he stops, immediately ''Sit'' and train him to be facing in the forward position, as you are, sitting right next to you. If he gets it right, you can treat him. Then, announce ''Heel'' again while giving a slight tug on the leash and begin walking again, always keeping him next to your left side. Once he understands the command ''Heel'' and learns to go straight, start doing left turns, right turns, circles, etc, always keeping him in the same proximity next to you, paying attention and keep reminding him, ''Heel'', over and over as necessary. Change your pace, walk, trot, stop. Mix in some ''Stays and ''Comes.'' Repetition is key. Russel's very young, so short sessions several times a day...5-6-7 minutes, then keep extending the time and doing less amount of sessions. Keep at it! Eventually, start doing it off the leash, starting at the very beginning. He will love it, and so will you!
